E Caryl, Duane, Dorothy, and Bill plan a square dance with music furnished by Tink Queer and his Buck- wheat Stompersf' K'Howdy, therein XVhy, howdy, brother Nicelylv Grab your shootin, irons, neighbor, and hop on the back of Hortense, my mule. Donit you know itis time to register for ilarnin' season, at the old school house?', By gum, brother, you're right! I plum for- got, and we'll be known as Sophomores, toof, You,re right, neighbor. Weid better hurry and round up the rest of our hillbilly classmates. XVe,re expectin, mighty good huntin' our second season at L. H. Sf' After arriving at the school house we were assigned to Hunting Lodges 8, 9, and 14, Where we loaded our old double barrels with plenty of pep and activities. Our first big gamei' hunters turned out to be Scoop Campbell, Ben Fish, and Turkey Clawson, who found a football suHicient ammu- nition. We hope in the next two seasons these hillbillies will be able to tackle bigger game. YVe Sophomores managed to keep the old sugar bowl filled by adding something new to school activities, a Variety dance. At this un- usual event all the Daisies and Clems found themselves being swung hilariously about the gym during the Paul Ionesv dance, or the lucky winners of a luscious cake Won in the cake walk. Of course, all faithful hillbillies attended our old fashioned square dance with good ole mountain musicn furnished by none other than Tink Queer and his Buckwheat Stompersn. We were also proud of having the honor of choosing the May Queen and sponsoring the annual May Day Coronation and Dance. Deciding our sugar bowl was full enough, we leveled it off by buying some records for the use of all the hillbilly students at L. H. S. MERRY SEHUUL SPIRIT ERERTER RY OFFICERS President ....,, . . Bill Nicely Vice President . .. ., Caryl Snyder Secretary ., . . . Dorothy McMullen Treasurer . Duane Craig IVe sent three very capable nimrods, Pat Graham, Scoop Campbell, and Emma Peterson. to represent us on the Student Council. This made us feel proud that We had a hand in our school government. Our talented brother, Chick Nicely, found that sliding a trombone was much easier than toting a musket and ball, thus earning for himself the name of i'Tommy Dorsey of Ligonier Highv. Weller, Iosie Corter, and Dot McMullen, our nimble athletes, proved their mountaineer heritage by their shoot- ing ability on the basketball floor. Our first classmate to change f1'om overalls to the blues of Uncle Samis Navy was Bob Conley, who en- listed and left in November for Sampson Train- ing Center, New York. At the middle of the season we were sad- dened by the resignation of Miss Cross, one of our instructors and class advisers. The vacancy was soon filled by the attractive Miss Ellington. On the day of her arrival all the Li'l Abnersn tried to make as good an impression as possible by wearing their best bibs and tuckersv. We turned out especially skillful in selling Mountaineer subscriptions when we brought in the biggest catch of all the other classes. It was a close race between the lodges with each one striving to reach the hundred per cent mark. The amazing results of this competition were Lodge 8-13891, Lodge 14-132921, and Lodge 9 -129'Z. Well, brother Nicely, untie Hortense and let's be gettin' back to the hills. I reckon we're all pretty wore out after such a boomin' season. Itill take us nigh onto half the summer to get conditioned for next yearf, Right, neighbor. Rest up good. We're plannin, bigger and better huntin' for when we git to be Juniorsn.
