CLASS HISTORY James High and Ray Haywood brought honor to the class as winners in the physical science division of the science fair and were later permitted to enter the District Science Fair. Barbara Moring won third place in the biological division of the Science Fair at Ligon. Gloria Hodge, Robert Watson, Doris Avery, Rosa Brown, Dorothy Battle and Lucy Pollard became affiliated with the Mu Alpha Theta Math Club. During the following year Debbie Todd and Carolyn Smith were inducted. Barbara Singletary and Ernest McCrimmon received gold keys for their art exhibits at Greensboro, North Carolina. One night we shall never forget was the Junior-Senior Prom. Because of their love for Ligon, a group of juniors lead by Dorothy Lane and Anna Thomas composed the Junior Class song. Memories of the prom will always linger in our hearts, for it was truly a Rendezvous of the Stars. As the summer approached and school closed, some of us decided to attend various summer institutes. Dorothy Battle qualified for the Governor ' s School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Doris Avery and Brenda Jordan attended Bennett College at Greensboro, North Carolina. James High attended Morehouse in Atlanta, Georgia. As we finished that year, we eagerly anticipated September of ' 65 for we would be seniors at last. Seniors at last ! ! ! We had reached the zenith of Mt. Success. We were advised by Mesdames M. D. Aldrich, M. J. Watts, B. P. Ingram, E. D. Toole, L. H. Webb, R. B. Wil- liams, W. M. Williams, A. M. Levingston; others were Miss E. M. Yeargin and H. A. Poole. Although we had reached the top, there was much preparation before we would be ready to venture out on another and higher mountain. During this year, Bobby Jones and Donald Poole represented us well at the North Carolina State Fair when their works of art won first and second places respectively. Vernon Shaw, Kathie Adams, Shirley Dendy, and other Ligonites had us to tune in every Saturday for Blues in the News. Gloria Turner was crowned Miss Ligon High and reigned over homecoming festivities. James High served as president of the student council during the senior year. Jesse Clements, Robert Drakeford, James Melvin, Larry Allen and Leland Branch lent their energies to the basketball team. At the end of the season they were declared Eastern District Champions. Debbie Todd and Barbara Thorpe were chosen by the Executive Board of the admin- istrative office as models for the Hudson-Belk Company. We were very proud of them. Sallie Sparks served as president of the National Honor Society and Paulette Harris was captain of our cheering squad. Two young men, Donald Poole and Michael Ridley, participated in the Annual Shrine Bowl Game in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Rosa Greene did not miss a day in school during her years at Ligon. While all this was going on, Mrs. Ingram and her playmakers were diligently pre- paring for the presentation of Lock, Stock, and Lipstick, casting James Davis, Debbie Todd, Walter Davenport, Charles Worth, Carolyn Purcell, Gwendolyn Walker, Ethel John- son, Carolyn Freeman, Dorothy Lane, James High, Janet Tucker. Yes, we had finally reached the top of Mt. Success. We shall never forget the many hours we spent on science projects, the toil and labor put in our chemistry, and the in- teresting discussions carried on in government and sociology. The excitment of our junior-senior prom will always linger in our hearts. We salute the Ligon Faculty and assure you that your many hours of teaching have not been in vain. We shall forever strive to be good citizens and to uphold the high ideals you have inculcated. Bessie White Historian
