'--1 1:':,n ' -- 4 l 29 w oi f gsuuvm' 0 Music Ut1ca's fifty piece band,w1th its snappy red and grey uni- forms,and led by five high step- ping majorettes and the Drum Ha Jor Mary Janet Mantonya perform ed at all the home and one of the away football games this year The vocalizing at Utica is done by the seventy voice Mixed Chorus Boys' and Girls' Glee Clubs and the Mlxed Ensemble All these groups with the band and brass choir, under the direction of Richard Welsh! presented a Christmas program and the annual Spring Music Festival Journalism The twenty ninth edition of our annual The Builder was pub lished by a competent staff, ad vised by Mrs Kauber The Wa Hoo,our school paper, was published every month under the direction of the ed1tor,Mary Jo Blough and advisor Miss Bol lenbacher This is only the sec ond year of its existence but we feel our paper is greatly mm proved and among the best The Ink Splash staff writes a weekly column for the Utica Herald containing school news and gossip Student Council The student council in its twenty-fourth year at Utica, is led by president Dick Beebe and vice president Carole Llngafelt- sr. The chairmen of all the or- ganizations in school, the class presidents, and a representative from each class make up the council. Among its many projects the council sponsored a Christ- mas dance on Dec. 22nd. Homecoming This year Mary Jo Blough was chosen by the students to reign over the Homecoming festivities Her attendants were Mary Janet Mantonya,Nell1e Wr1ght,Gerald1ne D1xon,and Ann Hawke.B111 McCann, the captain of the football team, crowned Mary Jo during the half-time ceremonies of the This page sponsored Utica Hebron ams which was won by Utica, 13 The freshman class captured first prize in the high school division of the homecoming pa rade with a portrayal of boxing on television Athletics Our football team d1dn't win any championships this year but their competitive spirit made them tough opponents for any team and their good sportsman- shhp is to be commended The varsity basketball team coached by Glendon 'Cap' Evans, enjoyed just a 'so so'season but we are looking forward to the tournaments The reserve team, guided by Fred Radloff had a comparatively good season winning ll and los ing only 4 The athletic awards will be presented to the players of all sports at the Athletic Banquet in March Cheerleaders Members of the varsity cheer ing squad were Mary Bernard,Dlx le Cornelius Jerry Dixon Sherrie Marstcn,and Mitzi Staugh Donna Bell Marlene Bllne and Marcia McDonald made up the reserve group The girls dressed in white with red accents,enthus1ast1ca1 ly urged their teams on to vic- tory. Library Staff The Library Staff at Utica is composed of about forty girls from the upper three grades. Its purpose is to promote and en- large the reading facilities for the students. An annual banquet is held every year to honor the new officers. This organization is under the guidance of Mrs. Helphrem Junior Play Sixteen members participated in the Junior class production, 'Clement1ne', under the able di- rection of Miss Bollenbacher.The farce comedy proved to be a tre- mendous success.
