Our school year began Sept. 3, when 241 pupils enrolled to start another year of work, fun, and study. The first break in class rou- tine was an assembly program on Sept. 18, presented by ventrilo- quist, Lester Marks. The Trojans came through with flying colors in their first football game of the year, Sept. 19, by defeating Summit. The rest of the season was a differ- ent story, however, since the home team failed to win any of the four remaining county games. Though the weatherman did his part by providing a beauti- ful afternoon for the Homecoming game played with the Alumni, the former graduates proved to 'be too strong for the school boys. The first issue of the school paper, the 'Bu1let1n', was pub- lished and the new system of semi-monthly publication met with approval. An entertaining assembly was presented tor the enjoyment of the students and faculty members, Oct. 4, by llss Jessie Bae Tay- lor who did impersonations of well-known persons. The Seniors had their gradu- ation pictures taken at the luel- ler Studio, Oct. 17. A Variety Show, including magic, comedy, and songs, was presented in the school auditori- um, Oct. 18, at which time the high school chorus made its first appearance of the year. Overalls and patched shirts were in order for the Freshman 'Hard ness Party' held at the schoolhouse, Oct. 25. The annual ual1owe'en Carni- val was held Oct. 31, complete with spooks, witches, and ghosts There was entertainment, fun, an food for young and old, and ev- eryone declared it a huge suc- cess. Two assemblies were held dur- ing Nov. The first was a liquid air demonstration presented in the school auditoriu , Nov. 18, while the other was held at Heb- 5 School, Nov. 21. Here ron High the group heard a very interest- enlightnlng talk about ing and Vocation, Character, and Person- ality. Nov. 27, was the date of the Homecoming basketball game and dance sponsored by the Seniors. The preliminary game in which the Heserves defeated a team composed of the Faculty and School Board members, provided many laughs for all who witnessed the fray. Jacksontown played host to the county schools at an A11- County Dance, Nov. 30. nShoot the Works', the Junior class play, was presented Dec. 5, and acclaimed a success. The Holiday Season was cele- brated Dec. 20, by a Christmas program complete with carol sing- ing, gift exchange, and Santa Claus. School was resumed Jan. 2, but the prospects of a bright new year were dimmed slightly by the shadow of the semester examina- tions soon to come. Jacksontown was represented in the County Honor Society this year by Wanda Boring, Marjorie Jones, Ruby Lane, and Dean Wince. The Trojans started the bas- ketball season well - faltered a bit midway - and recovered for a fine finish with the records showing seven wins and six loss- es for the home team. The season ended abruptly however, when Jacksontown was eliminated in their first tournament game. The Sophomore skating party larch 3, was the highlight of the school activities for that month. April was the month for musi- cal entertainment, the programs including the School Music Festi- val and the annual County Spring Festival at Hebron, April 25. The arrival of Hay was the signal for the beginning of many Senior activities including the Class Play, Kay 2, the Junior- Senicr Banquet, lay 10, Baccalau- reate, May 18, and last, the day, of days, Commencement, May 20.
