The first break in class rou- tine was an assembly program on Sept. 18, presented by ventrilo- quist, Lester Marks. The Trojans came through with flying colors in their first football game of the year, Sept. 19, by defeating Summit. The rest of the season was a differ- ent story, however, since the home team failed to win any of the four remaining county games. Though the weatherman did his part by providing a beauti- ful afternoon for the Homecoming game played with the Alumni, the former graduates proved to 'be too strong for the school boys. The first issue of the school paper, the 'Bu1let1n', was pub- lished and the new system of semi-monthly publication met with approval. An entertaining assembly was presented tor the enjoyment of the students and faculty members, Oct. 4, by llss Jessie Bae Tay- lor who did impersonations of well-known persons. The Seniors had their gradu- ation pictures taken at the luel- ler Studio, Oct. 17. A Variety Show, including magic, comedy, and songs, was presented in the school auditori- um, Oct. 18, at which time the high school chorus made its first appearance of the year. Overalls and patched shirts were in order for the Freshman 'Hard ness Party' held at the schoolhouse, Oct. 25. The annual ual1owe'en Carni- val was held Oct. 31, complete with spooks, witches, and ghosts There was entertainment, fun, an food for young and old, and ev- eryone declared it a huge suc- cess. Two assemblies were held dur- ing Nov. The first was a liquid air demonstration presented in the school auditoriu , Nov. 18, while the other was held at Heb- 5 School, Nov. 21. Here ron High the group heard a very interest- enlightnlng talk about ing and Vocation, Character, and Person- ality. Nov. 27, was the date of the Homecoming basketball game and dance sponsored by the Seniors. The preliminary game in which the Heserves defeated a team composed of the Faculty and School Board members, provided many laughs for all who witnessed the fray. Jacksontown played host to the county schools at an A11- County Dance, Nov. 30. nShoot the Works', the Junior class play, was presented Dec. 5, and acclaimed a success. The Holiday Season was cele- brated Dec. 20, by a Christmas program complete with carol sing- ing, gift exchange, and Santa Claus. School was resumed Jan. 2, but the prospects of a bright new year were dimmed slightly by the shadow of the semester examina- tions soon to come. Jacksontown was represented in the County Honor Society this year by Wanda Boring, Marjorie Jones, Ruby Lane, and Dean Wince. The Trojans started the bas- ketball season well - faltered a bit midway - and recovered for a fine finish with the records showing seven wins and six loss- es for the home team. The season ended abruptly however, when Jacksontown was eliminated in their first tournament game. The Sophomore skating party larch 3, was the highlight of the school activities for that month. April was the month for musi- cal entertainment, the programs including the School Music Festi- val and the annual County Spring Festival at Hebron, April 25. The arrival of Hay was the signal for the beginning of many Senior activities including the Class Play, Kay 2, the Junior- Senicr Banquet, lay 10, Baccalau- reate, May 18, and last, the day, of days, Commencement, May 20. THE SENIOR CLASS The class of '47 is the larg- est classtograduate from Hebron High School in 62 years. On Tuesday, November 12, 1946 the Senior class went toColumbus to have their pictures taken, they spent the remainder of the day visiting historical spots. The busiest monthoftheschool year wasMay. The first important event was the Junior and Senior Banquet atColumbus,Senior Break- fast, Baccalaureate, Class day, Commencement, Alumni Banquet. Our advisor was Miss Carrie B. Hutzell who led us through the year very successfully. HOMECOMING A colorful scene was our home coming game even though it did rain, the Queen Miss Jacquelin Yontz and her attendants, Miss Mary Lawson and Miss Patricia Clark reigned over the Pataskala Hebron game. Before game time, the Queen and m 'attendants were escorted through town by the school Band. The game began at 2:50 and at half time, the Pat- askala andHebron Bands performed magnificently. That evening in the attract- ively decorated gym, the Juniors sponsored the homecoming dance. The highlight of the evening was crowning oftheQueen, by football Captain Richard Walters. The music was furnished bythe melody Makers and an enjoyable evening was had by all. This page is sponsored by Cummins Ice Cream Co. On September 4, 1946, we saw the doors of Kirk High open to welcome us to another exicting year. A new super- intendent greeted us at the head of the stairs with a warm smile and a hand-ahake. We were later informed that his name was Mr. Weiser. FLASH! There were interesting assembly programs every Wed- nesday afternoon ------- thanks to our new Student Council with the able assistence of our new Superintendent. FLASH! Mr. Welsh, the man who was part responsible for Kirk High's basketball team going to district in 1945, is back with us again. We hope that he has Va longer stay with us this time. FLASH! The Freshman were almost sorry that they were freshman October ll. The initiation, given by the Sophomore Class, really made them squirm. FLASH! Our football team started off with a bang by winning from Hanover-Toboso and Jack- sontown. Following our winn- ing spree we suffered several set-backs, losing to Hartford, Alexandria, Etna, Homer, and Summit. Our Homecoming would have been terribly bleak, due to rain and defeat, if it hadn't been for our attract- ive queen, Anna Belle Van Buren, and her attendants. A dance was held in the high school gym that evening sponsored by the Junior Class. FLASH! We had our customary Fall Carnival in October. The Queen, Evelyn Quinan, and her attendants, were one of the high lights of the evening. This Page sponsored by C.N. Keller FLASH! Kirk High's basketball season began with a degeat at Pataskala. We recovered quite rapidly by winning from Hanover-Toboso, Hebron, and Etna. FLASH! Thanks to our music teacher, Mrs. Hutchins. With the cooperation of the grade school teachers, an excellant Ghristmas program was present- ed to the parents. FLASH! School was dismissed December 20 for a two weeks Ghristman vacation. January 6, 1947 found us back in school with enough New Year's resolutions to keep us busy the rest of the year. The most important one being to keep our newly painted school house looking as it did as long as possible. FLASH! Continuing our basketball season into 1947, our first game ended with a defeat at the hands of Summit. At Hebron and Hanover-Toboso we also suffered defeats. We got back into the race with a triumph over Homer. FLASH! The Junior Class Play given in March was very succ- essful. The claendar turning to April saw the Senior Class present their play. It WHS also a success. FLASH! With the end drawing near, we find the juniors and sen- iors decked out in their fin- est for that gala event. the Junior and Senior Banquet. FLASH! The final week was mainly devoted to the seniors. For a long time they will have Plea' sant memories of their Gom- mencement activities. Heres winding up the Kirk High Lights of 1946-7. Our gratitude to all those persons who helped ue make this a memorable year. L. 015 50 Czgafb 0 W -ew W sponsored by Green Shingl C.. iw G! The council has sponsored many activ- ities this year. A Homecoming Dance, Athletic Banquet, noon dancing and intramural basketball are only a few of the council's projects. Builder Staff The members of the Builder Staff have one of the most re- sponsible jobs in Utica H gh. Every year students enjoy this yearly book. So we the students of Utica High say NHats Offn to the Staff and to their Editor Bosayn McCann. Library Staff The Utica High School library is well established this year with the help of their sponsor Mrs. Helphrey. Their duty is to mend and distribute books and to keep all records. Music Department This year the music depart- ment at Utica included classes in Boys' Glee Club. Girls' Glee Club, 'lixed Chorus. Band, Ind the Triple Trio. Utica High was blessed sith a perfect day for the Homecoming. game and a victory over Hebron. To The Cheerleaders This year we had the best cheering that we've had for a long time. We owe this to Rosayn McCann, Carol Booth, Mary Seavolt Ann Nardi, and Julia Earlewine. The cheering was especially good at the basketball games. Dressed in red and white out- fits the cheerleaders were at every game leading yells. They worked very hard. So, we, the student body say, 'Three cheers for our Chserleaders'. Seniors At Last It seems only yesterday we Seniors were Freshmen, but many years have passed. When we were Freshmen we went along mumbling about all the un- necessary literature and history we were forced to study. Then as Sophomores we envy the Juniors because of their planning the Jr- Sr banquet, and this will be the first time for the girls to wear their formals. Then Juniors we take responsibilities, but it didn't seem quits so exciting as last year when we stood by and Watched the Juniors. And now, Seniors, those three years have slipped by so quickly. So now, we the Seniors take our final bow and to on-coming classes we wish you the best of luck. The team came through an undefeated season, until their last game. Our boys all played excellent ball and showed the best of sportsmanship. Jim Sands, Louis Clark, and Dick Parkinson made the all County Team, while Roger Pickering re- ceived honorable mention. The Homecoming game was play- ed October l8th with Kirkersville on Pataskala's field. Our Home- coming queen was Mary White. Her attendants were, Mary Wilkinson , Bonnie Randall, Patty Weaver, Mildred Evans, Bonnie Ha mond, and Janet Finke. On October 31 the entire stu- dent body cooperated to make lthe Carnival a hige success. The re- turns from the carnival were used to help purchase a moving picture projector, of which we are quite proud. Dona Reedy presided as Carnival Queen. The Seniors took a day off to have their pictures taken on Feb- ruary 6. The day was topped off by a visit to Bliss College, and a tour around the O.S.U. campus. An Operetta, 'Marianne N was presented by the musid dept. on December 26. It was really a beautiful production. The Honor Society members this year are: Louis Clark, Jim Sands, Mary White, Doris Heim- berger, and Bonnie Fandall. We are all looking forward to the Junior play, non Account Of Louella.n If we can finish up the year as nicely as it has gone, so far, the senior play, Junior - Senior Banquet, and Commencement exer- cises will be nearly perfect. 'F Q 5 52 I ANVIL E Dear Friends, Granville High has been do- ing many interesting projects this year. The very first day showed a great improvement in the beauty of our building, for the entire second floor had been painted for us, and to our surprise we saw many unfamiliar faces about us. However, we soonlearned thatthese friendly faces belonged to the students of Union Station High School, which merged with G.H.S. this year. Needless to say, these welcome friends have become an inseparable part of our school. Football season was upon us before we knew it and Homecom- ing was just around the corner. Our Homecoming theme this year was holidays and each class made a float depicting a well- known one. The game was with Hebron and ceremonies present- ing the queen and prizes for the floats were held at the half. Jack Piper and Earl Jones represented us on the first- strlng all-county foorball team while Bill Young, Carl Jones, Jim Posey, Jack Frost, and Frank Hannahs made the second string. Last but by no means least, our third stringers were Charlie Green and Lyle King. Also, B1D.Young was voted Gran- v1lle's most valuable player for the year. The Juniors presented a very hilarious comedy entitled HAsk Me Anothern on November 14 and 15. It was well cast and these industrious people made a hand- some lot of money for the Jun- ior and Senior Banquet which the Juniors pay for each year. One week after the Junior play, Girl Reserves and Hi-Y put on a Community Festival was held in the high which school. There were many prof- itable amusements to occupy the guests. Our first semester was cli- by a Christmas dance maxed which the Student Council spon- sored the week-end beginning our vacation. Basketball season was really underway by the first part of December. Our team showed gen- uine abllity and the season as a whole proved to be successful Granville was fortunate in hav- ing two of its players, Frank Hannahs and Jack Piper Play in an 'all-star game with Saint Francis. The selling of magazines this year brought us enough money to buy new backdrop cur- tains for the auditorium. The curtains are very attractive and everyone is thoroughly sat- isfied. To top the year off for us, socially, the G. R. and H1-Y dances were the highlights. There were lovely decorations and good refreshments to add to the festivity. Granville High School has hai a Very successful year, scho- lastically, atheletically and socially. Sincerely, Granville High School HIIV A A f sf If 51 A31 . Q e EVENTS OF 1946-47 One afternoon the small class of eight Seniors of Homer High School got together. That is, when Hr. Hosler told ue that we would all have to miss a day of school to go to Bakers Studio to have our pictures taken. On this tour, ln Columbus, Ohio, we visited many places. First, we went to the Studio, then we all had lunch at Doersam's. The afternoon was spent in traveling through the State Institute for the insane and the Penitentiary. We attended a movie and Dance Band Orchestra at the Palace Theater. We were certainly very tired on this fine October 16, 1946. The next glowing event in our 'Senior year was on November 15, 1946. This was a rabbit fry held in the school Cafeteria with the boys catching the rabbits, and the girls cooking an enjoyable meal Cwe still have eight Sen1ors.D. On December 20 the Faculty furnished a very delicious meal for the high school students. Afterward, s Christmas party was held which was enjoyed by all. We cannot thank the Faculty enough for the most wonderful time they gave us on this Friday. After so many tiring and weary weeks of play practice, we almost came to the point of causing Hr. Sanders to pull out all of his hair. But from the struggle, the eight Seniors, and one borrowed Junior, developed and perfected the play 'Dream Girl' by Robert Ray, which made you 'stop, look and l1sten'. We spent many happy, but tiresome, hours of practice. Next on our Social Calendar was the Junior and Senior Banquet, for which every Junior and Senior does a lot of planning during his four years in High School. It was a very great event in our lives: one which will live on with us for time immemorial. The most wonderful, but rather sad part of the twelve years ln cur school life, was the Baccalaureate. Service held on May 18 in the Homer Presbyterian Church. The last wonderful event in our school years was the Commencement Exercises held on May 20, 1947, in the school auditorium. We will all agree with you that we had a very wonderful collection of school days. Rather happy, but difficult to part with. The Speaker for the Commencement Exercises was Mr. Harold J. Bowers of the State Board of Education. SENIOR CLASS WILL Dick Niebel wills his class offices to Vernon Keckley. Elaine HcGruder wills her office work to Alan Megaw.
