MARGUERITE PERSCHKE Dedication: The members of the office staff, Mrs. Reed, Mrs. Lutter, Mrs. Perschke, Mrs. Thompson, and Miss Stevens, have always been recognized for the responsibility of their part in the operation of the schoolg their efficiency is depended upon. But this book is dedicated to them just as much because they have shown active in- terest in and sympathy for the individual student, and have always been able to supply a smile with the red tape and green admittance slips. The view ahead has changed greatly during our four years, as man has split atoms and reached toward outer space. Our high school experience has been a beginning of finding ourselves. The accomplishments of this senior class have been significant. A varied school curriculum affords a background education to pre- pare for college. clerical work. fine arts, and mechanics. The class ranked in the top one fourth of the state high schools as a result of the junior tests. Greater interest was shown by the seniors in regard to the National Merit Scholarship Test. Of the 84 seniors who took the test, Terry Anderson and Charles Durang reached the semi-finals. The voluntary participation in athletics, clubs. and class activities has added to the enjoyment of the four years. ln athletics we broke the high point record in basketball. won a championship, and introduced into our sport program, wrestling, golf, and tennis. The clubs are a valuable part of the high school education. They give us a chance to develop leadership and to work with others. The class dances, plays, and elections helped us to mature socially. Juniors CLASS OFFICERS 1957-1958 MAXINE SIMMONS Vice President MIKE TANASCU President PAT BIBBY Treasurer RUTH LANCASTER Secretary Forest Green and Silver Pink Camellia 'Wi V ' SP 'HY Better citizenship through yr, ' greater knowledge. j V The class of 1959 has finished the year with a fine record. Aided by Mr. Kimball, the advisor, the group contributed much to the school. Surviving a rugged testing program in the fall, they settled right down to becoming upperclassmen and began to take hold of their many responsibili- ties. These were made greater because of increasing enrollment and a tighten- ing of space facilities. Not limiting themselves to scholastic activities alone, the group planned several fine social events and activities. They contributed to Homecoming with a float and enthusiasm. Speaking of spirit, the Junior play, Blithe Spiritf, was notable among their endeavors. Social events included 4'Hernan- do,s Hideawayf, after game dances, and such things with which they helped. But, of course, the Junior Prom is the highlight and much awaited for event in the ,lunior's year. Memories of soft music, spring formals, flowers and decorations. From their accomplishments thus far, the Juniors seem capable for seniority and able to prepare for their future. x , H i f f f ' ' . Q H ' 1' . fx 'k ' .::' . . f , . R ll . This year the freshman class, with its sur- prisingly equal enrollment of boys and girls, was the largest in L.F.H.S.'s history. The frosh worked very hard during the school year as they became ac- quainted with their new and interesting subjects. Not only did they work hard in their studies, but they gave themselves quite a record in sports, especially football and basketball. They also put a lot of effort in their first dance which gave them their first big chance to entertain the whole school. ,N 1 . ' ll 2 A 1 1 ' 1 2 5. Q. gy ,. Hn' C.A.A. stands for the Girls' Athletic Association. a club that offers a wide selection of sports to all girls. Through its many activities. C.A.A. tries to stimulate participation in girls' ath- letics and gynmastics and tries to promote high standards of sportsmanship. fellowship. and health. Every night after school the girls' gym is filled with noise and action as the girls participate in various sports of the season. Volleyball. speed-away. and archery are offered in the fall, and the organized teams begin to compete. With winter. the girls take an active interest in basketball and bowling. After several weeks of practice. a basketball and a bowling tourna- ment are held. The teams for these events are chosen from the girls who have shown the most skill in the sport. As spring approaches. the sports change to baseball. badminton. and horseback riding. The C.A.A. Play llayi' hosts this year were Highland Park and Antioch. New fund raising projects began with an alter school bake salefan event that was really appreciated by hungry students. All of the women enjoyed seeing the latest styles in clothes at a C.A.A. fashion show sponsored by lleins. The money ob- tained lrom these projects is put into a scholarship fund which one member receives each year. , 1 G.A.A. does not end its activities with sports. The result of the efforts put forth by the members makes it seem as if this club contains some very good workers, planners, and artists. '4Christmas Carouselv was the theme for the Mother- Daughter dessert party presented December 12. uBig and Little Sister Dayi'-a day set aside to welcome all freshman girls to L.F.H.S.-was celebrated by attendance at a sophomore football game followed by games. a potluck supper, and group singing. An lnitiation banquet welcomes all new members to G.A.A.. and MDad's Nightw welcomes all fathers to join their daughters in a night of competitive sports. The last and most impressive banquet of the year is the Junior Farewell Ban- quet given in honor of the seniors. At this time, the new Cabinet members and the officers are installed for next year. The C.A.A. members are industrious workers who are ready to help in all events. ln the Homecoming parade their float won second prize with a Chorus Girln theme. The ushers and workers for the Regional Tournament were none other than CAA. members. Leaders' Club and Color Guard add their services to our school. Warrii appreciation and gratitude is expressed to Miss Bond and Miss Moen for their interest, assistance. and advice in making another worthwhile and successful year of G.A.A. . Ja. Using a fly-T formation, Libertyville used their speed instead of size to score touchdowns. Led by our three co-captains this year-Rog Evans, Tony Wood, and Don Horn- our team compiled a 5-2 overall record and a 4-2 second place N.S.C. slate. Taking our first non-conference game at Grant, the Wildcats ran last year's offense and downed Grant on defensive aggression. Dundee came next, but our Wildcat squad failed to penetrate the heavy Cardinal line. The outlook brightened as the Woodstock Blue Streaks were downed 13-0. Our Homecoming game, a hard fought battle against undefeated Zion. ended in an impressive 8-7 victory for the Wildcats. The flu bugi' hit at the time of our crucial game with the Barringhole Broncs. Crippled thoroughly, we bowed to defeat 36-12. It is well to note that L.F.H.S. stayed in this game mainly through the long runs of all-conference half-back Bobby Craig. The McHenry and Crystal Lake games both ended in Mgrand finale victories for the 'Cats ending one of the most successful recent seasons at L.F.H.S. In his fourth year as basketball coach, Mr. Hook compiled a 15-10 record, the best record for L.F.H.S. in many years. Starting off by winning the first. two easily, the Cats found trouble with Lake Forest for the first half but came back to outscore our rivals 52-16 in the last half. By winning the next 3 conference games, they held first place with Barrington but lost a close decision to the Bronkos. In the DeKalk Tourney they won the first round but were eliminated by Maine. The loss to Palatine was their only non-confer- ence defeat. A close decision was lost to the Crystal Lake Tigers. The 90 points against Glenbrook was the season's high. After losses to Dundee and McHenry, we rolled over the winless Blue Streaks at Woodstock. After losing another close one to Bar- rington and Crystal Lake, they beat Zion to main- tain a 500 slate in N.S.C. f6-61 and an over all record of 13-9. Antioch ....,. Grayslake ......,,...
