I trust that all you have done here will seem worthwhile, that your studies will not be regarded as for naught, that the extracurricular activities will seem to have been outstanding, and that the social events will have been enioyable. You are fortunate to have such a vivid story as your staff has depicted for you. C. ALLEN FORT Superintendent Libertyville-Fremont High School V . . 1 f issile? LL.L L-.. - X 2 . K 1: - . 1 Sw? ASHCRAFT T. ADAMS Pre5ident Vice Pf9Slder1f As we, the Class of '56, prepare to leave Libertyville-Fremont High School, we have many things to look back on. ln September Marsha Hagi and Mary Hinderyckx were welcomed back from a summer in Germany and Greece. We were glad to have Eckhart Welsh with us as an ex- change student from Germany. VALEDICTORIAN SALUTATORIAN f-mf Anne Bergfald Philip Gerberding ' J. PROCTOR K. BURNETT Secretary Treasurer Our new felt senior responsibilities began with Homecoming. The pep rally was again a success. The frosh were made aware that they were merely freshmen by performing sa few stunts directed by the senior L Club- members. The senior girls presented, a skit portraying the football team's activities the night before Home- coming, as seen in the coach's dream. Amid a spectacular fireworks display, Queen Julie was crowned - to reign over the remainder of the Homecoming events. The Christmas Dance, Pink Heaven began the holidays successfully. The Senior Play, The Late Christopher Bean, successfully utilized the theater-in-the-round. The senior boys versus faculty basketball game helped to raise money for the March of Dimes. Our, four years here have sped, and it is with a touch of sadness, that we put on our caps and gowns and walk forward to receive our diplomas and the future. CLASS MOTTO: Onward ever, backward never. They first started out by getting ready for homecoming with a float, but after going to all the work of making it, they found they didn't have a hitch to pull it so the iuniors lost out on our homecoming parade. The big month of November was spent work- ing on the production of the Junior Play, Dirty Work at the Crossroads, a melodrama put on stupendously. February 4, the iuniors did it again by giving their traditional dance which turned out quite successfully. By the time spring rolled around the juniors were getting ready for the biggest event of the year, the Junior Prom. That night of May 19 turned out to be a perfect prom for everyone. Much time was taken for preparation for col- lege and future careers. The iuniors also spent time getting ready for their senior year. After they became better acquainted with the members of their class, they elected officers and Student Council representatives. They also planned their three-year high school programs. On the eve of Homecoming, the frosh were properly admitted to the football field and we are sure their knees hurt because they crawled to the field from the Brainerd Building. After this, the frosh still came through and entered a float in the Homecoming Parade. The freshmen ioined the sophomores in their annual Frosh-Soph Square Dance which was held in March. Initiation. Our G.A.A. is a member of the Illinois Girls' Athletic Association and its purpose is to offer a variety of sports and a chance for leadership for girls interested in athletics. A certain amount of requirements set up by the organization are expected of every girl. The fall session of G.A.A. began with volley- ball and bowling. In September girls were chosen for the Color Guard by a faculty committee. Also, there was the Big and Little Sister Day for all freshman and new girls in school. When Homecoming came in October, G.A.A. cheered our team on with a float, saying Time is running out for Zion. November arrived with the Senior Banquet and the theme of United Na- tions. The girls came in a variety of foreign outfits. December brought the spirit of Christmas and the popular Mother's Tea with Silver Bells. Miss Bond received a present from the Cabinet when she gave a Christmas party for its members. January was kept busy with basketball and bowling. Soon came the time to prepare for the initiation in the beginning of February. It was a great success with nearly one hundred new members dressed as hoboes for the occasion. After initiation twelve girls entered the State G.A.A. Bowling Tournament and ended up eighth with Nancy Dietz our high bowler. At this time a committee was set up to iron out problems concerning the new tradition of giving a G.A.A. Scholarship to an active G.A.A. member each year to aid in her further education. March was marked by the entering of many girls in the basketball shooting contest. Dad's Night was also an important event which all enjoyed even though the dads had aching mus- cles on the following day. The all-star teams battled it out for the Basketball Championship. As spring approached, aerial tennis and bad- minton were the main sports. ln the middle of May preparations were made for the Farewell Banquet which ended another busy year in G.A.A. At this time all the members would like to give their thanks to Miss Bond, G.A.A. advisor, for all the work she puts into all of the activities. Besides her help in sports, we thank her for her patience and her guidance throughout the year. SENIORS First row: P. Brown, A. Brown, Hagi, Ed- man, Proctor, FitzSimons, Meyer. We were greeted by our old friends and many new faces. The frosh of last year have certainly done a lot of growing up over the summer. IO-We had heaps of notes to compare about all we did this summer. There was a lot of egg throwing and hose squirting at Linda Lentine's back to school party. l5- This is a footbalI, explained Coach Tunnicliff, at our first pep assembly. l7- Go you Cats! We had our first game today with Grant! It certainly was a thriller even though we tied. 22-We all feel a few pounds heavier after our big splurge to the Rustic Manor yesterday. Sixteen of us iunior girls invaded the restaurant. 28-Humpty Dumpty iust walked down the hall, Mother Goose's Children seem to have taken over the school today. We met all the new frosh girls at the G.A.A. Big and Little Sister Day. OCTOBER 7-Better luck next time, Cats. You played a good game but lost to Warren. l3-We stayed up all last night trying to finish our library books for book reports today. The first six weeks is at an end. 19-The Big ShockvReport Cards!!! 2l-We had a big night. With the frosh crawling around on the football field, and the senior girls' skit, plus the queen and her court being announced, the evening was really a roaring success. The climax of the evening came when Queen Julie and her court, Alice, Beryl, Carol, and Lola were announced. The tears rolled, but we all agreed that the girls deserved it. 22-The big event of the year came and went so fast. We were excited and yet tired after two busy weeks of planning the parade, decorating the floats, and cheering for our team. There were so many faces of Alumni and students at the big dance tonight. We had a wonderful time! NOVEMBER 5-Although we lost our last football game to Barrington, we made up for our defeat by having a wonderful time at the first all-school dance given by the sophomoresi Autumn Leaves . . . were the decorations. 8-A lot of planning went into the Senior G.A.A. Banquet this afternoon. lt' was a big success. 'll-We slept all day-Armistice Dayea holiday. 24, 25-Mmmm. We can still taste that turkey. lt was almost like Christmas, with our first snow fall. As we traveled to Cleveland, Colorado, or New York, to spend Thanksgiving with old friends or as we stayed home, we realized that three months of our senior year was almost over. 28, 29, 30-The melodrama of yesteryear returns again in all its glory. We hissed with all the others as Monroe Murgatroyd pursued poor, sweet, little Nellie Lovelace. Complete authenticity was attained with red checkered table cloths and rumbling background music at Dirty Work at the Crossroads. DECEMBER 8m Silver Bells rang out to welcome the mothers and daughters to the G.A.A. Christmas Tea. I5-How is it that one of Nancy Martin's shoes always seems to disappear in Latin Class??? 19-It was a coming out day for Mike Cromie and John Betieman as they shed their casts. 2l-Santa Claus on a roof top, a winter wonderland, an old fashioned caroler and an old fashioned Christmas were some of the highlights of the annual winter concert. 22-The cafeteria was transformed into a Pink Heaven tonight. The senior spon- sored dance began the holidays with a big bang. 23, 2eThe Christmas Holidays at last. Not that we have been looking forward to it . . . JANUARY 3-Another year has passed and all our brand new resolutions with it!!! 6-Baskets, baskets, baskets, boys. Tonight-game with Zion and aftergame clance. T5-The ski lift at Wilmont, Wisconsin had to be stopped for Bobbie Bernard when she let go of it and slipped down the hill. l9, 20-Seems like the Semester Exams get harder every year. Thank Heaven for No-Doze. 28--Down to old New Orleans for the theme of the Junior Dance . . . gaily decorated masks and confetti brought the Mardi Gras to us. FEBRUARY 6-We thought that we had learned a lot in our four years, but we guess not, as was proved by our scores on the Senior Tests. 7-The Teachers and the senior boys played one another in a grand game of basketball today . . .we watched some really original cheerleading. 8-This time our school was transformed into a Hobo Camp. The frosh were initiated into G.A.A. tonight. As we lit their candles, we felt that our organization was receiving a wonderful group of girls. TO-Who is that monster that everyone was talking about at the Pep Assembly? Grayslake, ofcourse. . .we play them tonight. 15-Ouch! That needle hurts. We'll never get TB after this. The music assembly, presented by the band, orchestra, and chorus, closed our Valentine's Day ap- propriately. 20, 21-Don't lose that nose, Pat Busch, was in our thoughts as we watched The Late Christopher Bean, given by the Senior Class. The entire cast did a wonder- ful iob. Those T900 costumes were really hep. MARCH i0-Swing your partners, freshmen and sophomores. T6-No rest for the teachers. We slept again today. 20, 21-The dads weren't in as good condition as they thought after G.A.A. Dad's Night. 28, 3-With our new spring attire, we begin the Easter Vacation in style. APRIL T5-Spring is certainly here. We saw our first robins today and the tulips are al- most bursting in their glorious color. 28-We had a big time at the Freshman Dance tonight. MAY 4-The choir filled the warm air tonight with music, as they gave their last con- cert of the year. 19-Much work went into the Junior Prom . . . what a success!!! 23-Many senior tears were shed at the banquet given by the iuniors as a G.A.A. Farewell. SO-Memorial Day . . . We should have studied more before those everloving xams. JUNE 3-Let's remember those words tonight at Baccalaureate! 5-That day has finally come, after four years. Last year, Janet Nlors did a fine job as editor. This year Emily Kunke assumed leadership and has carried on and added to a fine tradition. I will always remember with pleasure my as- sociation with Emily. and as the sun slowly stinks, I mean sinks, in the West . . . Well, Mr, Roberts, what now? What happened to R0sie's feet? She's not sitting on them, Barry Galiger lust has bigger ones. Yesterday, I was talking to Lynda Lambrecht. She spent eleven consecutive hours on Sunday working on the senior section. CMany, many hours were spent to prepare for this final senior deadlinej. Thanks for this kind of cooperation from the NAUTILUS staff! This page is dedicated to and from them. Mr. B. P.S. Bente doesn't appear in the pictures on this page because she was home working on the final chapter of Bente in Denmark.
