a,W . 4 W a JUFHUI? ELFISS PLQH Action! Action! Action! is the keynote of Mr. Cohan's dramaturgy--the kind of action that is rapid and strong and carries with it his shrewd observation and deep feeling for life and its people. On a wild and stormy night there arrive at a lonely tavern a romantic Vagabond CCarol Barkerl, a homeless woman KNorma Jean Fordl, and the Governor of the State lDick Adlerl, his wife CAnnie Flowersj, his daughter KPatsy Mahaffeyb, and his daughter's fiance KBob Burdockl. The tranquility which usually pervades the old tavern is completely disrupted as the stern tavern- keeper CMarvin Franksb, his adolescent son-fDick Angell his faithful hired girl CLeanna Mercerl, and his half- crazy hired manQKArohie Bowen! attempt to keep abreast of all the unusual happenings of this night of nights. Suspicion develops as to the identity of each of the characters in turn. To the Vagabond it is deliciously like a drama, and he delights in directing the familiar characters in their parts. The arrival of the sheriff CD. L. Whitacrej with his men CLeroy Strausbaugh, Dave Mason, and Marlenn Smith! and their identity as the notorious bandits who held up the Governor help to solve the mystery. How- ever, the arrival of the attendant CBob Thompson! from a nearby insane asylum, to identify curtain of his ward 1 S is required to solve completely the cause of the humerous mixups. In the closing scene, the Vagabond dramatically takes his leave, but not before ensuring that Zach and Sally, who are very much in love, should not be separated by the overbearing tavern-keeper who wants his son to get lands in exchange for his name. After the vagabond blesses each one in the tavern, he, singing his favorite song, ventures out into the magnificent storm. .,.... f H r ,rp ,fV '-W'
