How could Time have slipped by so swiftly and taken with it our school days? We woke with a start and realized that we were Seniors---we, who four short years ago entered high school. Then graduation seemed to be only a mist in a hazy far-away future. Now we know it was our awakening, We were Freshmen--yes, 22 of us. To upper classmen we were probably 22 headaches, but oh, how proud we were of ourselves! The members of the class that moved, withdrew from school, or fell behind were: James Inebnit, Cloyce Hedges, Gene Vanscoder, Bob Haas, Florine Parker, Violina Lobdell, and Berton Eckert. New students in our class were: Rena Wagner, June Haylett, Gene Beckford, and Sylvia Mantel. President - Jacqueline Burdock Vice President - Evelyn Woessner Secretary and Treasurere- June Haylett The following year found our class slightly diminished in number, but not in zeal. The members which moved away from school were: Gene Beckford, Wanda Priest, and Vera Palmerton. The one new member in our class was Jack Warner. During the summer we were very sorry to hear of the loss of a very close classmate, George Potter, who had a very pleasing personality and many friends. We elected the following officers: President - Hugh Sheline Vice President - Tom Thompson Secretary and Treasurer - Jack Warner As Juniors we numbered 25. Having been knocked around by our upper classmen for two years at last, as Juniors, we were determined to make a name for ourselves, and we did. As Juniors we found many new responsibilities awaiting for us. In our class some of the individuals were out- standing in sports, others in music, while our pride in Dramatics laid in our Junior Play, WDead of the Nightn under the direction of Mrs. Johnson. We honored the departing Senior class with a formal banquet held at the Women's Club. We enjoyed dancing and other entertainment afterwards at the University Recreation Hall. A navy theme was carried throughout the evening, New students in our class wereg Lois Turner from California, Wanda Priest returning from Portage, John Stimmel and Bill Strausbaugh from the upper class. ...I , iy1IA,.... . . ... T - , ..f v A CLASS HISTORY of Mes '2 The election of class officers were: President - Hugh Sheline Vice President - Helen Bechsteln Secretary and Treasurer - Lois Turner We, as Seniors, knew it was to be our last year, and we decided not make it our least. The usual adjective used in describing Seniors is Ndignifiedna We were anything but that. We were very busy this year with school parties, basketball games, play, annual, and graduation. Our class had decreased in number since Lois Turner moved, John Stimmel joined the Navy, and June Haylett and Shirley Finney were married the latter part of the Junior year. When Jim Hill, from Toledo, joined our class we made the full sum of 20. Our last chance for Dramatics came when we gave our Senior Play WYou Can't Take It With Youn, directed by Mrs. Johnson. it left in our memories thoughts of hard work done, experience gained, and pleas- ant fun. We elected the following officers for our Senior year: V President - Tom Thompson Vice President - Bob Richardson Secretary and Treasurer - Rena Wagner We have the privilege of announcing the nine highest in scholarship in our class: Jack Warner, Valedictoriang Hugh Sheline, Salutatoriang Evelyn Woessnerg Tom Thompson, Ronald Snowy Jacqueline Burdockg Rena Wagner, Bob Richardson, and Loren Bechstein. The class sponsored nThe Pioneern annual during the Senior year with Mr. Smith as financial advisor and Mrs. Johnson as publication sponsor. The following were elected to offices to have charge of the 1946 Pioneer: Editor, Rena Wagner, Assist. Editor, Helen Bechsteing Business Manager, Hugh Shelineg Class History, Helen Bechsteing and Class Prophecy, Bob Richardson. Junior-Senior banquet, Baccalaureate and Commencement all sounded, as bells, waking us from our dream of the future and dispelling the mist. We see before us, not haze, but clear skies and smooth sailing. Yes, we have reached the top goal and we know that the security and the joy of Wby-gone daysu held for us are gone forever. We shall never forgot them and we hope that, as we step out into the walks of life, the hands of the Divine Father shall lead us in the pathway of truth and righteousness. fNXXr r r H 9435, SENIOR ELQSS LLHLL 1 We, the Senior Class of Liberty High School, County of Wood, State of Ohio, United States of America, of the year l946, being of sound intelligence, good conduct, excellent health, and of full age, do publish our last will and testament, revoking all wills, which may have been made heretofore by us. WITNESSES: Tom Thompson Jack Warner 5? :J N -mf .JZ PRCPI-IECY i4 B Y BOB R IC HAR DSON May 17, 1968. Twenty two years since the class of '46 had left the portals of Liberty High School. Time had wrought its changes. I gripped tightly my briefcase. I thought of all the things its contents meant to the people of the world. In this briefcase were important, secret documents to Dayu Duo, Emperor of the Moon. My mission was to try to make friends of the moon men. In my hotel room were dozens of telegrams wishing me luck in the undertaking. I was happy to hear from all my classmates, as I thought of what they were doing. When at the Statler, I went into the barber shop to get a shave. My barter was a cute little miss whom was known to one and all as Rena Wagner. Rena was just like 992 of all barbers, and women- She ran off the head at all times. She told me about the first time she tried shaving a person at barber school. The person was already in the chair when she arrived. After several minutes of industrious shaving, she stopped suddenly. 'What's wrong?u asked the instructor. UI cut this guy 5 times and he donft bleed.W Rena told me that Bonnie Lindquist is living in Evanston, Illinois. If you remember, Bonnie married the animal trainer from the Carnival at Cygnet the year she graduated. Rena said that Bonnie seems to be very happy, with her snakes, pigeons, goats, and husband. I also heard that Hugh CFlagpoleD Sheline is in the insurance business in Hartford, Conn. Hugh said so far he has insured half the men and all the brunettes. Rena told me that Tom Thompson was here at the hotel. I hurried up to room 24C and found a man with graying hair around the temples, and a narrow mustache on the upperllp. This was Tom Thompson. He didn't recognize me, and thought I was one of his customers. Before I knew what had happened, I was the owner of a Royal Typewriter. I was shocked to hear that Tom was selling such things. When we were in high school, Tom vowed he would never touch another typewriter Cexcept for medicinal purposesj. But time makes changes. I asked him how Leanna was, and was surprised, nay, startled, with his reply. NOh, we broke up the summer I graduated. Her sister told me that she snored in her sleep, and I lost interest in her.n aawwmkg Eyfl,f aewdwv' 11 f:': '- PROPHECY ' PAGE 'Z I left Tom and went back down to the lobby. My head was spinning around dizzly. KI'm still not used to water with chlorine in it.7 I weaved my way into several people, and a heavyset, blond haired man came up and said, nKeep movin' bub.u My heart leaped. Jim Hill's voice came out of the hotel detective's mouth. nJIm, old man. Don't you recognize me?' 'Yea, I recognize ya Richardson, and keep movin'.n nJim, remember how I used to make paper wads for you in Civics Class?n nYea, and remember how you let something slip about a blond in Toledo while talking to a Brunette in Wingston.' - How nice the weather is outside. The birds are twitterlng, the grass is green, the snapdragons are snapping, the petunias are petuning, the Belgian lilies are belch---ah blooming. I picked myself up off the sidewalk, and dragged my mangled bones over to a park bench. I My eyes fell on the headlines of the sport page. STRAUSBAUGH SINKS 47 POINTS IN OILERS' WIN. I read on to find that Bill Strausbaugh is playing professional basketball for the San Francisco Oilers, and is the star of the team. So far this year Bill has scored 1079 points in 28 games. Then I noticed a reprint from a feature story in Life Magazine. Janet Chamberlain and Joyce Robinson are in partnership together. They are running an old peoples home. So far, they are doing very well. In an interview, the girls stated: Janet: UAS long as I'm around food, I'm happy.n Joyce said, WI always liked to work with old people.n lGuess that's the reason she got along with the teachers so well.j The girls went to the Moron Institute the fall after graduation. You've probably heard the school yell of the noble institution-- Rooty toot toot Rooty toot toot We're from the Moron Institute We don't smoke and we don't chew And we don't go with girls that do Maybe you think we don't have fun Well, we don't! wwwwn 3 Slimiigmwwmswf P RQPI-IECY PAGE 3 I dashed out to the old folks home to ask the girls about some of the other members. Rosie Hentges cor- responds with Janet a lot. Rosie won a five hundred dollar prize recently for introducing the slogan NIt's not a chicken dinner without NOODY NOODLES. Recently Rosie achieved the typing speed of 100 words a minute. Many companies have tried to hire her, but Rosie stays because twice a day, as a snack, the company serves chicken and noodles. Yes, Rosie is very happy--all 575 pounds of her. Joyce told me that Evelyn Woessner and Ronald snow are working together. Evelyn is running a dress shop at 2917 Poe Road in Bowling Green, Ohio. It is an exclusive shop for fat women. Perhaps you've heard of it? Madam La Zombies. When Evelyn puts one of her gunny sack creations on a hefty gal, Ron stands back and says, Woh zee gown-- eet ees beauitful--but on you madam--eet ees magneefeceent You see, while Ron was in the army, he was stationed in France. He picked up a very nice French accent. No? Needless to say, Madam La Zombies' has broken all sales records for dress shops with fat women as customers. I did telephone Loren Bechstein before I loft New York. I5'i en Beckstein, I think, is the biggest surprise of them all. Yep. Easy goin', date 'em all, Bechstein. Loren is President of the United Nations Organization. He is conservative in the world policies, and that is what the world wants. So far, everyone is happy. We've avoided war, and everything and everybody is swell. Loren said that John Knaggs is in Reno. He's run- ning the WW k lln club. I thought of how John had made Tommy Manville look like a piker. John was getting a divorce from his eighteenth wife today. Well, Tommy hasn't anything on John! One time I wrote to John to find out how he ran a gambling club, and had a new wife every year. He said he had an efficiency expert plan his day. This marvelous woman was our own Jackie Burdock. Ever since graduation Jackie has been inventing marvelous new time saving devices. ,A 1 ,..,. ,. sneak Q gygiaggawwwwur PROPHECY 1 f , Some of them are: PAGE LI, l. They have signed a contract with the WALMAGAMATED HORROR PICTURE CORkORATION.n The girls are to play the part of zimbies lfirst cousins of zombiesl. Jackie Burdock said that the girls are very confident of their ability to scare the heck out of little children Cwith make up, of coursel. Helen Bechstein is another made her home in the West. She sheep ranch in the San Fernando likes it there because it never cloud does happen to drift into of our graduates who is living on a large Valley. She said she rains. If a storm the state, they send up the air force, hook a rope to it, tow it over the Pacific Ocean, and shoot it down. This accounts for all the members of the Senior class, except our Valedictorian. Upon inquiry I learned that he is in charge of the maternity ward at the new cat and dog hospital. They say that of all of Taxidermy Tech's graduates, Jack Warner is the most successful. I was glad to hear of the success of my classmates. Everyone will leave his mark in the world, whether it be in the hearts of men, with fool, or the pocket books of widows, with insurance, or on long green, felt covered tables, with a cue. Yes. There will never be another class like halls of Liberty High School. CI can practically Smith sigh, Thank Heaven. We have changed the decoration of our room with the times. We started with a farm project last fall. Next came Halloween, then the Indians and Pilgrims for Thanksgiving. We celebrated Christmas with a party. Everyone brought a gift and we had a very nice tree. After Christmas we had an Eskimo project. Valentine Day came in between the Eskinoes and the Dutch people. We will finish the year with an Easter project and of course Spring, with flowers and birds. lH1mJANoVUURUl ERQUES a The third and fourth graders at Halloween, dressed in paper sack masks which they made. They also made humbuzzers and drums. At Chrhnb mas time the children made pot holders as gifts for their mothers and turned their room into a cathedral by painting stained glass windows. In the Spring the children became the Gene Autrys and Judy Gar- lands of tomorrow when they presented a musical program in the audito- rium. The fourth grade also gave a play, making their own costumes and presenting it to the third grade. The young farmers and farmer- ettes landscaped the ground in front of their own windows with flower gardens. Some of the plants were transplanted from their indoor gar- dens. FlVTH ANDSQXH4 ERQUES Beverly Collins, Mary Lou Hentges, and Gladys Leimgruber have been present every day. The fifth and sixth grade have watched with interest, the corner board for an unusual fact each week which was written with colored chalk. Last fall the boys and girls made a collection of some of the different kinds of seeds and studied the ways seeds travel. In English the sixth grade made booklets of poems and pictures that were studied during the year. The fifth grade made booklets of stick figure drawings, each representing a hGood Mannersn rule. SEVENTH ERHUi The seventh grade led all other rooms in the American Red Cross drives. In the first one we contributed 152529. The second one 3318.00 Our enrollment is 24. An average per pupil for both drives of 31.72. Rudy Willis has a record of perfect attendance. At the beginning of the school year, it received lovely gold silk drapes, with a brown fringe trim. We made fringed cloth squares for the center of the tables, and placed displays of interest, or new books, or growing plants on the tables. Then, the school purchased almost 150 new books of fiction, non- fiction, and biography. Then, we acquired a bulletin board, which features the colorful jackets of all new books. Last, but not least, we now have a subscription to The Sentinel- Tribune and The Toledo Blade, which keeps us posted on current affairs. EUFWUEREIQL RUUIWW Please note our new mimcograph machine in this picture. We're very proud of it. Also, the table it rests on is new, and conceals a motor, which permits us to run copies without operating it by hand. we aren't exactly lazy, but multiply 82 pages in this annual by 150 copies and it makes 12,500 times to turn the crank just for the year book! We are very appreciative of the fluorescent lights which were in- stalled in our commercial room, and in the typing room, too. Formerly, on dark days, the typists could hardly even see their copies, but, now, all is changed, and every typist should be an expert! THE VUQTH RUUYTI The Math room doubles its duty as the eighth grade home room with Mr. Brueggemeier as the home room teacher. He teaches all math classes and does a good job. The math classes that meet in the math room are: Plane Geometry, Algebra, Eighth Grade Arithmetic, Jr.-Sr.-Math, and Solid Geometry. CHEITWISTRH LQ B A This year our students started handling chemicals for their first time. As usual mistakes were made. About the first time Hydrogen ex- ploded evcryone was much more careful with their experiments from then on. He is also interested in all school ac- tivities. How wonderful our school would be if we were all in a group of this type! I The second group is made up of those students who in- tend to do great things some day A member of this group is the dreamer. When he sees others winning honors, it inspires him, and he determines to do something equally good. But somehow he never seems to get around to it. Once in a while he does try something, but he gives so little real effort to it that he can do nothing but fail. If he does win some hon- or, he is satisfied and does not fl' laggard. He does not even care to do anything or win any honor. he does not boost his school, but finds fault with everything in his whole life, in business l1fe,too. He never works banuse somebody else will do it if he doesn't. The laggard is seldom if ever missed when he is gone. The go-getter decides what he wants and goes after it. He boosts all worthy things. The dreamer is not sure what he wants, or, if he is, he hasn't ambition enough to go after it. The laggard's only desire is to be a nobody and to be let alrw, and he usually is. Wa JUHIUR ELHSS The Junior Class celebrated Halloween by a party in Bowling Green on October 50. Our classmate, Jo Ann Bowerman, was our hostess. The house was dec- orated in true Halloween fashion, and we spent the evening playing games and listening to the boys' jokes. Leanna Mercer and Carol Barker entertained us by jokes, and playing the piano. The eats were delish--pumpkin pie, popcorn, and punch were served. At 11:50, we went to the midnight show at the Cla-Zel and saw Boris Karloff in Nlsle of the Dead.n The Juniors'held their banquet for their guests, at Mrs. Williams' Tea Room in Maumee on May 6. The best part of the banquet was the dinner, natch, which featured baked ham--ummmml The banquet was a formal dinner, so all the gals were their formals and the boys were all slicked up in their best bib and tuckers. Something new! We were all out for a good time, and were as carefree as the breezes. After the banquet, we enjoyed a movie at one of the theaters in Toledo. The Junior Class really worked on their banquet this year, and the Seniors appreciated it. We have that from an official source, too. SUPHUVUURE CLHSS Emma Hefflingor, Dick Chamberlain and Jim Ineb- nit dropped out of school last fall, leaving the Sophomore Class a total of nine members. We have five boys and four girls. But this didn't stop us from being well represented in all school activities. Our English class, under the direction of Mr. Houk, is planning to put on a play called HA Weddingn It is just one act, but we're sure that you'll enjoy it. SENIOR ELQSS PLIH The play 'YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOUW is a cel- ebrated comedy, that had Jimmy Stewart in the lead in the movie version, a few years back. ' At first sight the Sycamore family KRena Wagner and Loren Bechsteins seem a little cuckoo-lbut, they just enjoy living very much! But, oh, those dull Kirby's, very social register, lJoyce Robinson and Tom Thompsonl--they refuse to let their handsome son Tony QHugh Shelinel marry Alice Sycamore fEvelyn Woessnerl--just because her family is so harum-scarum. Can't imagine why! It's true that the first time the Kirbys paid a visit, poor flustered Mrs. Sycamore was painting a picture of a discus thrower with Mr. De Pinna fBill Strausbaughl posing in his shorts, Essie4CPat Crowe! was tapddancing in an abbreviated costumeg her husband CRon Snow! was diligently work- ing on his printing circulars in the parlor: Donald, KJohn Knaggsb, a colored boy friend of the maid, CHelen Bechsteinj was lounging on the scfag and Martin Vanderhof CBob Richardsonl was pasting stamps in his album. Well, that just gives you an ideal But, really, the family doesnft do anything, but what their individual whims dictate. Mr. Sycamore, and Mr. D6 Pinna experiment with fire cracker production in the cellar, and all went well until the police lieutenant KJim Hilly, and his police women lSylvia Mantel and Annie Flowersl raided the houlo. Mr. De Pinna left his pipe in the cellar and the fireworks blew up! Let's not forget their friends--the dashing Russian KJack Warner! who teaches Essie to dance, and mooches meals at the same time. Nor, don't forget to mention the Grand Duchess CRosie Hdntgesl, who likes to cook: or the limburger-loving actress iwanda Priest! who has an aversion to snakes. Action! is the keynote of Mr. Cohan's dramaturgy--the kind of action that is rapid and strong and carries with it his shrewd observation and deep feeling for life and its people. On a wild and stormy night there arrive at a lonely tavern a romantic Vagabond CCarol Barkerl, a homeless woman KNorma Jean Fordl, and the Governor of the State lDick Adlerl, his wife CAnnie Flowersj, his daughter KPatsy Mahaffeyb, and his daughter's fiance KBob Burdockl. The tranquility which usually pervades the old tavern is completely disrupted as the stern tavern- keeper CMarvin Franksb, his adolescent son-fDick Angell his faithful hired girl CLeanna Mercerl, and his half- crazy hired manQKArohie Bowen! attempt to keep abreast of all the unusual happenings of this night of nights. Suspicion develops as to the identity of each of the characters in turn. To the Vagabond it is deliciously like a drama, and he delights in directing the familiar characters in their parts. The arrival of the sheriff CD. L. Whitacrej with his men CLeroy Strausbaugh, Dave Mason, and Marlenn Smith! and their identity as the notorious bandits who held up the Governor help to solve the mystery. How- ever, the arrival of the attendant CBob Thompson! from a nearby insane asylum, to identify curtain of his ward 1 S is required to solve completely the cause of the humerous mixups. In the closing scene, the Vagabond dramatically takes his leave, but not before ensuring that Zach and Sally, who are very much in love, should not be separated by the overbearing tavern-keeper who wants his son to get lands in exchange for his name. After the vagabond blesses each one in the tavern, he, singing his favorite song, ventures out into the magnificent storm. .,.... f H r ,rp ,fV '-W' Me, ,.,, ,.,.,..A, i Q Ig , .... .,., ,wif 6, TAIRD MOJL SECGQD ROJ: -mm - FIILJ1 'Olg ,JUUIUIY PLF1L:lllF1ST Dick Anfel Lerof Strausbauvh Dick Q 3 LJ 2 Tob Thompson, Archie Bowen, Marvin Adler, Franks . Believe it or not, the seniors can be busy little beavers when they try. Can't they, Mrs. Johnson? She knows! They decided on exclusive posters to do the work. All week long they worked and worked and oh, so hard! H111 they finish in time? . I Thursday, the 4th, we had a baseball game with Cygnet. Flagpole Sheline pitched a 7 hit game and did some all rest hitting himself. Bobbie Thompson was really on the beam. He snagged a line drive running to his left and tagged the runner trying to get back to second base. He got a bruise on the side of the noggin for his efforts, anyway. what a game! Gygnet won 6-3, though. Here are those seniors again! Always doing some- thing! Can't sit still a minute! This time they had a hayrlde. They brought along some intimate friends. They saw more country that night! Sr. boys and girls had tryouts for the play. They were really surprised about who get the parts. Play practice certainly serves as an excuse for not getting lessons. It certainly is more fun, and money, 1sn't it Bob? We have plenty of visitors. First Shirley Potter, graduate of two years, and our good friend Jr. Searfoss. Junior is finally gettiqgito be a man. He's in the ' Navy, girls. He went iniveighing 155 lbs. and loek at him after two nonthsf'l81 lbs. What a hunk of man! Oh, yes, we got our report cards. We were all so happy, weren't we? A I The Senior Play nYou Canft Take It With Youn was presented on November 2nd, Gee, was Mrs. Johnson ever tickled to have it such a success. Mr. DePinna was a sensash part of the program and Grand- pa was really alreet. tHe put his two bits worth in and made it hilarious. Well, you know Scotchie. The Seniors finally decided where they wanted to be shot. Halker's it was, that is Wa1ker's I say. The camera took it's ghastly fate like a man, oh, my mistake, camera, camera, that is. Then came the trip to Toledo. There was plenty of help when it came to fixing flats, wnsn't there keeds? Every- thing went ginger peachy. Maybe nDocn was a bit bored, but how could he be with what rode with him? It was simply cosmic, wasn't it UDocn? Of course those wonderful basketball games have kept us all jumping. I'm sure we don't know who gets the most attention, the cheerleaders, or the basketball.boys. I'd say it was 50-50. The mice should have been warned in due time because the Seniors got their pictures finally. The pictures, on the whole, are alreet. I, for one know at least one Jerk from Albuquerque whose ' picture will be especially swell for scaring mice, or is it meese? Gee, you should have seen our Christmas Carnival. I'll lay you ten to one that there's ' never been another one like it5l Scotchie and Tom were really proud of their weight-guessing joint. They did pretty good for the Senior Class.- Tanks! Carol Barker was the crystal gazer for the Junior Class and what futures he could foretell. Mine was a pippen, how about yours? The fish pond was the Sophomores. All I could see to fish for was a redhead. How about it boys? The Freshmen and eighth grade did OK with the darts, baseballss, and ping pong balls. It was all Super! Mr. Smith, who was trying to emphasize a point in logic, asked the civics class: Ulf the United States is bounded on the north by Canada, on the south by Mexico on the east by the Atlantic Dcean and on the west by the Pacific 1? Ocean, how old am I? There was - a long, horrible silence, and even Jack Warner sat uumfounded. 4 CHIASWQAS , Finally Janet raised her hand. p . ,, You're 44 . Mr. Goon, Goon that is, was here to take class pictures. x What a fate! I can't understand why it took him so long to take the seniors' pictures. Mrs. Downing is leaving. First for California and then back to Africa. Her brother is coming to take her place. We've seen pictures of him, haven't we girls? Mr. Houk came for a few days, so he could get nge to us, I betcha! Hey, if you get many more of these men, men I say, how will they expect us to keep our minds on our work? 'Well, iaybe they don't. The seniors ordered their invitations and namecards. That's the most agreeable class !'ve seen for a long while. Let's hope it's not catching! Basketball seems to be the main topic nowadays. We've really had some keen games and again just the opposite. Those cheerleaders are really on the beam and what figures they oan't cut. We even have some small frys in training. Beverly Collins is really coming up. She's solid! , Why do I stand when the moon is high, With arms outstretched to a starlit sky, While on my lips is a wordless cry? Why do I do it? l'm nuts, that's why. Did you like that? That banquet at Wauseon was really interesting Cafterwardsl, I heard. Valentine Day and that pest Cupid is at it again. He really gets around somebody who knows somebody else. I have heard a rumor, rumor that is, that sugar and stuff is retioned. From some of the cards I've seen, I have my doubts. You should have seen the card that our famed Chem. teacher received with about a dozen lip prints on it, and no signature. The gals told him on the card that wif you're really interested, you can find out who sent this tp you.U - What a catastrophe! What a ghastly fate! What? Ch, we're having six weeks tests. We were so happy before this awful thing happened. It's too bad the tournament at B. G. came before tests because no one had much time to study. Chemistry was ever so hard, they tell. One beautiful day of vacation on Washington's birthday. Hubba! Hubba! Another man teacher! Mrs. Johnson went to New Orleans to spend two weeks with John and Mr. Ringer is her replacement. What a replacement! He's married gals, but still lots of fun. The first year typing students in fourth period class can get away with murder! He likes girls! Another sailor! This time it is John Woessner and he's just back before discharge. The Senior Civics class surely made a good impression on him. Peer sister Evelyn can't talk with him as an audience. .' Coach Harold Anderson of Bowling Green University was the guest speaker. 'Elagpolen Sheline was named as the honorary captain. You deserve it, too, Hughie. The Nskirtsu of the Senior Class sponsored a WPlaid Shirt and Blue Jeans Partyn. The Junior and Senior boys played a basketball game and the Senior boys were beaten. Will they ever live it down? Boys, you beat them last year! You should have seen Mrs. Johnson in shirt and overalls, complete with pigtails. Mr. Dewese and Mr. Brueggemeier were really at home, too. 'U Q y BQSKETBQLL The Liberty High Basketball Team of 1945-46 had only a mediocre season winning five games and losing ten. If the total points for both opponents and Liberty were taken into consideration, the Lions fared fairly well, they scored 450 points while their opponents scored 445, indicating they lost most of their games by close scores. Duo to graduation the team will lose the services of Hugh Sheline, Jack Warner, Tom Thompson, and Ron Snow. The outlook for next year's team is e good one. -Several of the boys saw action on the varsity. They are: Bob Thomp- son, Marlonn Smith, Ray Hentges, Bob Burdock, D. L. Whitacre, Dick Adler and Carol Barker. With these boys a very strong team can be made. In the county tournament Liberty drew a bye to play the winner of Olneysweston. Olney was victorious over Weston. Then, Olney beat Liberty by a score of 28-21. Olney went on to win the county championship by defeating Cygnet in the finals 26-22. Dressed in their purple skirts and yellow sweaters, they were an essential part of all the games throughout the basketball season. Our cheerleaders helped to foster a good school spirit which develops keen rivalry between schools in athletics. The student body has shown a fine spirit and has supported our teams under the leadership of this year's cheer- leaders. The cheerleaders were new to L.H.S. sports fans. BQSEBQLL The baseball team did not enjoy a very successful season. They played only five games which does not give a team a chance to show its strength. We won one and lost four.
