When the forefathers of our nation first came to this country they met many hardships. The ones who were weak did not survive, but the ones who were strong met the challenge head on. As time passed this country came to be a democracy. The patriots were con- fronted by a struggle of mind and of body; nevertheless, their will and de- termination caused them to succeed. Even after freedom was won, there was still a hard uphill climb. We, the students of Liberty, are also faced with a challenge. If we meet this challenge with full force, we will succeed. There- fore, let us now strive to reach our goals through Life at Liberty and the Pursuit of Learning. - 3 -

Principal TO THE CLASS OF 1963: As you approach your commencement activities, you are no doubt filled with mixed emotions. Many of you have decided on your activities for the next few years and some of you will deter- mine this as you go along. As you know commencement means to begin and this is just what it is as far as your life is con- cerned. So often people have the mistaken idea that at the end of a formal education period there is no need for further education . We hope that you will consider that your education is just commencing. True, it may not be the formal education but if you continue to learn it is then that you will be able to enjoy the full life. In your effort to learn we suggest that you remember that the next few years are formative as to your character and as to the things you will do for a living and in your leisure. It is from youth that ideals, ideas, and adventure have brought progress and helped to make life better. Finally, remember that you must maintain physical health and make a concerted effort to grow intellectually and spiritually. Sincerely, Harlan A. Siegesmund, Principal - 4 -
