Semor Class H1story 1954 FRESHMAN YEAR At the beglnmng of the 1950 51 term a group of twenty seven bashfu1 Freshmen were enrolled at L1berty I-hgh The members of our class were Bertha Alhson Larry Bunte Joyce Chase Patr1c1a Clark Phylhs Curtls Elalne Cutforth Donna Grlffln Donna Sue H1pk1ns Sh1rley Jackson Marcella Kaltenbach Theodora Kovacev1ch Clmfford Huddle ston Dor1s Jean Kurtz Kenneth Leapley Norma Rae Longlett James Medhn Yvonne Mlxer Donald Mowen Wayne Moore Alberta Nelsen Rodney Poulter Jerry Qulncy Teddy Relch R1ta Rossmlller Rlchard Tenhouse Jolene Webber and Dorls Wychoff We were not able to keep our h1gh enrollment for Phylhs Curtls transferred to Qulncy H1gh and Dorls Jean Kurtz to Barry Hlgh The class off1cers elected were as follows Pres1dent Elame Cutforth V1ce-Presmdent dent Norma Rae Longlett Secretary R1ta Rossmlller Treasurer Alberta Ne1sen Reporter Donna C1r1ff1n Student Counc1l Representatlve Donna Sue I-l1pk1ns Sponsors of our class for the year were Mr Norman Clarke and Mr Clarence Gamble The faculty members cons1sted of M1ss Esther M Rexd Mrs Nelle Mull1ns Mr Clarence Gamble Mr Dervm Garr1son Mr James Fouts Mr Dean S1ms Mr Nor man Clarke and Mr Wllson O Neubauer Supenntendent On October 12 a welrd looklng group of Freshmen arrlved from ' Mars at L1berty Hlgh It was 1n1t1at1on day The g1rls wore b1b overalls on backwards wh1ch were fr1nged at the knees gunny sack blouses w1th long sleeves brlght necktles knee boots on the wrong foot and wool socks They had to wear the1r ha1r up on curlers and uncovered wlth a rlbbon of tw1ne on top of the curlers Thelr makeup cons1sted of flour for powder wlth no l1pst1ck or f1ngerna1l pohsh and each carr1ed a bouquet of hay t1ed wlth ba1l1ng w1re The boys had to wear long underwear w1th a short sk1rt over top and suspenders supporttng the sk1rt one low and one hlgh heel shoe a lady's scarf tled around the1r neck a baby bon net a corncob lapel t1ed on to the suspenders and work gloves Thelr face was covered entlrely w1th cold cream and had to wear heavy eye shadow l1pst1ck f1ngerna1l pol1sh as much Jewelry as poss1ble and carr1ed a bouquet of flowers All of us had to carry a broom dust pan catalogue bathroom statlonery to be autographed by all Sen1ors and teachers and wear a strlng of potatoes around our neck We had to carry all the Semors and teachers books to the1r classes and address all Semors as S1r and Madam e were not allowed to drlnk any soda other than Semor coke and couldn't get a dr1nk at the water fountaln untll all Senxors were f1n1shed Each freshman had to crawl on and off the bus backwards and through all classroom doors backwards Whenever a Semor asked we were to s1t down Indian style and repeat Super1ors' Oh our Supermors we do ad mlre you so' We s1t to pay you homage and at your feet we humbly bow We hope to carry out your wrshes but mf we don t we'll be subjected to your sw1tches A program was held 1n the gym sponsored by the Sen1or class Refreshments of coke and xce cream bars were served In the afternoon we were marched down to Llberty and back That afternoon at the ballgame between Llberty and West Plke we had to parade around the bases and do var1ous tasks such as sweepmg off home plate All the Freshmen agreed was a day that w1ll long be remembered 18 .
