Golf Facts Success found its way to the 1986 Golf Team along with improvement and fun. Under the guidance of Mr. Wagner, the team captured the Avalon District Toumament, finished in third place in Regional competition at Tannenhauf, and ranked 11th in AA action in all of Ohio. Senior John Matheny, lead the team to an undefeated season in the Trumbull AA League. According to Coach Wagner, the team will miss Matheny's medal-winning perfor- mance. However, Mike copich, Tony Misciskia, and Sarah Butcher hold great promise in continuing the lVlathenyfLiberty tradition. Both the team and coach feel optomistic about next year. With fresh talent in players like Todd Callen, Chris lVlcI'leil, and Joe Cohn, a state victory is undoubtedly in reach. Of particular interest are the 1986 letter and certificate winners. Lettennen fand womenl include Steve Willis, John Matheny, Adam Hollander, Jim Watt, Robert Richardson, Mike Copich, Tony Misciskia, Craig Peters, and Sarah Butcher. The remaining members were recognized with certificates for their achievements and contributions. These golfers include Mike Mamrick, Chris McNeil, Todd Callen, and Joe Cohn. With another successful season completed and celebrated. Coach Wagner and next year's team anxiously await the opportunity for the State title and another victorious year. 54 Links In '86 is f I 5 j .'e' 541 w ..w?,vf X. . l X , I ii . . f gl! ! , XL x nl, fl' Ill. -f ll I K 1 ii. ,. lst Row: C. New Coaching Staff Takes Control The Leopard football coaching staff went through some major changes for 1986. Greg May, a Physical Education Teacher at Girard, took over at the head coaching position. Coach May and his coaching staff took con- trol in June, and not to long after that, official summer practice started. Although the Leopards season was not as successful as hoped for, Coach May was happy with the improvement of the team in general. l 1stRow: B. Macsuli, G. May, Head coach, E. Tryouts were held at the end of last year and Heidi Crain and Kathy Schesler were chosen as this year's co-captians. Practice began in mid-July and by the first football game against Girard the girls were ready to go. One of the activi- ties the girls participated in was attending cheerleading camp at Ohio University. The girls left on Saturday and spent Sunday leaming new material. Kathy Schesler stated We leamed some newjumps and moves and we plan on using them in our floor cheers. Also the cheerleaders hosted the annual Homecoming Dance. lt was well done and everybody enjoyed themselves. One of the main jobs of the cheerlead- ers is to plan and prepare for the pep-rallies each Friday. The student body is amist each week due to the exciting pep-rallies. The cheerleaders led us through the football season and on to the basketball season. The girls cheered on the basketball team to district championship and onto the regional playoffs. When the game was over the girls kept up the spirit by cheering We're proud of our team, we're so proud of our team. This year's squad was responsible for putting the spirit back into L.H.S. We've come a long way and we're glad to have with us those who've supported us and been there when we needed them. Today is a proud day for all of us and we wouIdn't be here without the help of our parents. I'm taking this opportunity to say thank you--it's well deserved. To the class of '87 I'd like to say Thank You also . . . for mak- ing this year the absolute great- est that could ever be. We ARE Liberty High School. Just take a look at the people around you right now. Among them are your closest friends. We've grovim up with each other, and today is the last time we'll all be together. We know each other so well - we've laughed together and cried to- gether. We've gone through so much to get where we are today and the memories we share can never be replaced . . . I'm sure our senior year is many things to each of us, and we've all changed in the last nine months. 1987 was a year of learning about ourselves, a year of hard work, a year of togetherness, and yes, the year of the party. But together we have made the most of our senior year. We have learned not only through our schoolwork and with the help of our teachers, but through rela- tionships, experiences, trips, and a lot of long talks. We've all had our share of crises which we will probably laugh about if we aren't already, and we've all eaten at McDonalds a LITTLE too often. But 1987 was a year for Liberty Pride and accomplishment, not only in sports and academically, but personally as well - The graduating class of 1987 IS Lib- erty High School. And as we move on we'll all take a little bit of LHS with us. When we hear a certain song, or visit a certain place, the memories will remind us of what it meant to be a stu- dent at Liberty. We've learned to care about each other: we have shovm it over and over again in the past year, and we've all got- ten by with a little help from our friends. Through football season and bonfires, dances, basketball games, parties, prom, studyhall, skip days, and Monday morn- ings, we have stuck by each oth- er and gotten everything out of LHS that we possibly could have. We have learned to laugh at our- selves and learn from our mis- takes. Now we have our whole futures in front of us. As Ferris Bueller would say, Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while . . . You could miss it. How is the time for all of us as seniors to resolve to take advan- tage of our opportunities, to ap- preciate our good fortune, and to look fonuard to the days to come. Our choices are limit- less. With so much to look for- ward to and so much to look back on, we can hardly go wrong. We can't overlook, however, one misfortune this year. We lost a member of our class, and if the seniors would, please stand now in a moment of silence for Randy Ralston whose life was taken from him at such a young age and is unable to be with us today . . . . . . Thank You. Looking back, we can smile at the last year, but today we look fonvard to the future and antici- pate what our lives will bring. We all have our dreams and the op- portunuity to make them come true. After today, we may not ever see some of our friends againp the four years at LHS have flovim by and now seems to be the time to say good-bye. Well don't ever say good-bye to your friends but let the memories live. As we're together today, let us be together forever. The Class of '87 can never be forgotten. We can never forget each other. To quote our Japanese exchange student, Mesae Horii, UI wish I didn't have to leave my friends. I wish I could stay with you always. I love you guys. I am greatly indebted to my parents for my high school education and also to their unlimited sacrifices that I might have every advantage. I owe my greatest gratitude to Mr. Phil Latessa for putting up with my anger and my many questions, 'When is the deadline?, Where are the layout sheets?, How many picas?, Are the pictures back yet? Our staff has worked tremendously hard this year to put the 1986-87 Oracle together. Due to the inexperience of our staff and advisor, lack of money, time, support, and not having a class period to do the oracle, it made it even harder to become organized. The acts of today are the memories of tomorrow. The rich memories of Liberty we shall undoubted- ly have for the future. In imagination we'll return to the old halls, old friends, old enthusiasms, undimmedg but in a truer and fairer light. Our paths will probably no longer be parallels: some of us may never meet again: and yet there is that tie of fellowship which binds us and will bind us to Liberty. To the Class of i987 Thank You for The Best Years of My Life. Editor, Ursula Jean Rossi At the beginning of the year there was an announcement asking Juniors and Seniors to participate in producing another Oracle. Well we had our first meeting and about twenty people showed up. Positions were voted on and ad selling began. Mr. Latessa was confident that the 87 Oracle would be a successful one As the meetings went on, the staff became smaller and smaller until it was the final ren-Marla, Dina, chnsta, Dave, M Michelle, Suzanne, Jodi, Beth, and Ursula-this was the 87 . A Oracle staff. Well we met our first deadline but after that the problems began and all through those problems Mr. Latessa was always there fexcept for that one fishing tripj. Mr. Latessa was the best person to fill the position of Oracle Advisor. lie sacnficed his Saturdays C9 till 33 and sometimes even bought W D A I E us lunch. Without Mr. Latessa there would be no yearbook and no yearbook meant no memories. Mr. Latessa the 87 Oracle staff would like to thank you for your support, judgment, and sacrifices, and most ofall your encouragement. You made the T 87 Oracle work and for that we would like to thank you. We hope that you will always remember your first Oracle staff be- cause they will always remember their only advisor. To Mr. Latessa we dedicate the 87 Oracle. Thanks for the memories 87 '7 ORACLE -dl., A AWN ,nu WA, A H an W W . . .A . - ,f - .a-,-fig '+vi- , ia .., ,-..- .- --M, s mrfrw , 5 -Q --T- .
