They give to it life, and keep it eternally young. They give it themselves, youth, to shape and to form into strong characters. They give it their young ideas, their zest and their enthusiasm. They give their faith in all its undertakings and in all it stands for. They make its failures, their failures, its suc- cesses, their successes. They work for it, hope for it, plan for it. For it means so much, knowing that this year has seen us almost at the top, with our future now so shining and clear. lt means a feeling of deep satisfaction at the thought oi' much work behind us and of so many things accomplished. It means three years of happiness behind us with one more full year, the very best of all, of pleasant times ahead. Our gaiety, our enthusiasm of former years. and our love for good times have not left us but rather they have increased. For with the I'l!Lll7lt't'f7 uniior' Class thought of graduation ever before us now, we are determined to make every minute count and to enter into all things with spirit and zest. Our good times have acquired a new meaning with our knowing that from now on time will seem so short. Things have seemed diflicult at times-so difficult at the time of their happening: studies. examinations, and the taking upon ourselves the responsibility that is so much a part of being an upper-classman. Yet even now we are aware that they have been just so much fun and will be a long cherished memory to brighten up the future. lop Row tleli to nghtl Margaret Scully. .lane Melfaughlin, Rcvemary lX'lawier-'cn, lfraneex XYiliman, Phyllis Reilly, liltn Meier, Ruth Rau. But now we are hrmly established, We have been accepted, and we feel that we really belong. Vv'e have found all the joys of being foolishly wise as great as they promised to be. But with the good times went a little more responsibility: setting a good example to the freshies : buckling down to work a little more energetically. The work never outweighted the fun, however. and so things were rather at an ideal state: enough work to keep us busy and enough play to keep us happy. . . . Their gaiety. enthusiasm, and cooperation in all things Ursuline have won many friends for them and much praise. They have made themselves ready to become upperfclassmen worthy of their school and of themselves. 'l'wenlt1 up Row flelr lo righrl, Alfrieda Kra Freshman Class So much has happened since we bade good-bye to grammar school on Graduation Day of 1943. The high school doors swung open, took us in, and we started on to something new. The transition was rather trying, considering the new faces, new sur- roundings, and contrasting daily routine. But adjust- ments are always strange things and now we feel that it all has contributed toward making us tried and true daughters of Ursuline. We shall never forget the first few months of our school days here: the trouble remembering names: the confusion of trying to find the right class in the right room. But we were stamped green freshies and no doubt we were expected to act as such. We have had numerous good times and if we are look- ing forward to the next three years las we certainly arel it is with hope that everything will prove as grand as our first year. mer. They are perhaps equally as important as classes and study. For the purpose of high-school life is not so much to impart knowledge as to develop character. And it is the school activities that develops some of the most significant of the many features of character. Activities broaden the mind, they bring the stu- dent into contact with new ideas, and they help her to become acquainted with her fellow students in a more intimate manner than class work alone would permit. They reveal latent talents, they assist the growth of those abilities so vital to leadership, they teach good sportsmanship, and they inculcate the value of teamwork. And, finally, in addition to providing a welcome relief from the hum-drum occupations of the class- room, it is the extra-curricular activities which awaken that interest in the school and its success which we know as school spirit. fm X Q5 V 'AD K In 'Q M 4 WJ X J?-f.1 l x v 1 P nj II, IIIII II.II In IIMIII Im.-,.I I.-IIII.III.II, IIIIIIIII NIIIIII-I.IIIu, MIIII.-v IGIII.-I lI.- IIIIIIII xI.II.I,II.I XIII..-III IIIIIII- II XIII-If XIIIIIIIIIIII NUIIIII IIIIII I ,.IIIIIII.'
