These microscopes will help the students learn about the microscopic world around them and broaden their ed- ucation in this field. A cabinet was made especially for them by the Wood Shop class. Audio visual I 5 aids and filmstrips were also pur- chased by the science department. Another class was added to the sci- ence department. This class, Inde- pendent Study, works on projects of their own choice, such as ecology, radio activity, and nature. They work in a room especially remodeled for this purpose. A new teacher, Mr. Dennis Buck- ley, was added to the science depart- ment as the chemistry and physics teacher. - Mr. jerry Black, science instructor, gives an ex- contained in them. Department Raises Standards To lncoming freshmen are better pre- pared than ever before in mathe- matics according to Mr. Cverald Craw- ford, head of the mathematics de- partment. They are consuming more knowledge in the area of mathematics during their elementary school years. This requires the department to im- prove to meet rising standards. The mathematics teachers of Liber- ty initiated these tests so they could test the effectiveness of their instruc- tion in the classrooms. General Motors Strike Slows Drivers' Training Because of the strike at General Motors, the drivers' training depart- ment had to operate with two cars. After the strike the department re- ceived two 1971 cars, then resumed its normal progress. The history departments goal was to have one filmstrip projector and one record player for every history class in school.
