Eff D V 1 Lihert Lion l 9 Published by the Students at LIBERTY UNIUN HIGH SCIIIIUL Brentwood, Ez-ilifernia In a war-weary world, with a nation mourn- ing the loss of a great American leader, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a little levity is a welcome sight. To that end, we offer this small memento of people and events we shall want to remember. fjaarggfl' 2 , mi: ' Y x vi PHI RIP!-ILS ESSAEE Congratulations, Mr. Editor and Staff, on the production of such an at- tractive Annual. Your efforts have been justly rewarded by the enthusiastic reception of this fine edition. Here and now I wish to thank this student body, this faculty, the patrons of this school, and our high school trustees for their loyal cooperation in bring- ing this school year to such a happy and successful conclusion. This past year has been a trying one, but your cooperation has been truly helpful and inspiring. I hope that you students will take full and enthusiastic advantage of the educational facilities afforded you through the generosity of the taxpayers of this high school district and prepare yourselves for clean, constructive citizenship. We are proud of our school and the record which our students have made after leaving us and I trust that no student of Liberty Union High School will so far forget himself as to bring adverse criticism upon this school and its student body through wrongful word or deed. ' Sincerely. E. G. NASH DEDTIQ TTU Because of the cooperation shown by Mrs. Jennings and Mr. Farr. many of our school activities have been a success. Not only have they aided us in their capacity as teachers, but also as friends. Through their guidance we have learned to appreciate the beauty of art and music, as well as the joy of living. The patience, sympathy, and understanding dis- played by them has been deeply appreciated by us. and to show our gratitude we dedicate this annual to them. EULTY TOP ROW-B. J. The Freshmen were shown every consideration-for that week. anyway. The Freshmen Reception concluded the 'Aget acquainted week. We sponsored a dance after the Amador football game: among other things, the ingenious decorations centered on a large football with the A and B teams' names on it. On the next page a more detailed account of our activities is given. The first event that the Junior class undertook was a Halloween Dance in October. Everyone enjoyed himself. A book of school, yells and songs was written by the class for use at school games and rallies. The songs were sung in the auditorium. with the accompani- ment of the band, before the games. April found the Juniors working hard in preparing their Junior Prom. Their dance was appropriately decorated with a Mystic Under Sea Land as the theme. The Sophomore class gave a sport dance after one of the football games and a coke raffle at the regular Thursday Bond Dance. This was to raise money for the annual Sophomore Hop. The Hop was a great success with its Old Fashioned Garden theme. A wishing well was provided in the center of the auditorium for wishful thinkers. The class of '48 spent its first year in high school getting adjusted to their surroundings and becoming acquainted with the upper classmen. It was found that this Freshman class was the biggest that has been enrolled in recent years. Their only contribution to school entertainment was a record dance on May 4, a well-attended affair with plenty of fun for all. . ' 5 Qsss X., af 4? S1 - f wr'-f . ' f -.,' fiif.'52' ye?3gx:, -- I? PICTURE AT BOTTOM OF PAGE- Madalein Craig, Advisor. Seniors M1945 All Seniors came back to the old alma-mater on September 5 looking forward to an eventful term. We anticipated many good times, dances, parties, games and numerous hours of serious study. ' November 17 was our long awaited Senior Ditch Day. Most of us spent the day in San Francisco. In early December, up we came with RED Senior hats. They were dennitely noticeable which, of course, was what we wanted. i . The No. 2 event of the year, No. 1 being gradua- tion, took place on May 18. That's right, the Senior Ball. We danced to the accompaniment of a smooth orchestra, soft lights, and flowing gowns. Our Senior year of 1945 drew to a close on June 8. We are glad to graduate, but we hate to leave our many friends. 6 SE llllil ILL Catherine Beed, alias Katy, leave history and Miss Taylor forever. Our football team showed much improvement this year, both in the length of the schedule which was played and in the spirit of the squad itself. Our boys won one and tied one game. Mel Clark, George Del Pozo, and Al Aragon made the three touchdowns for the year, a total of one apiece. This is not an impressive accomplishment on paper, but it represents a step forward with definite promise for next year. The basketball teams have improved greatly over last year's, despite the fact that there were a number of inexperiencd players on the Varsity and B teams. The schedule was much larger than last year. The Varsity won three games and the B team won five. This gave the B's a tie for championship with San Ramon. An attempt was made to set up a baseball team for the season. but it was impossible to schedule any outside games. There were only a few practice games played at home. The track team was not able to get much of a start this year, since no meets could be arranged with other schools. There was some intramural ac- tivity. Under the direction and with the help of Miss Geddis, the girls' gym classes have been having a lot of fun. Besides playing the regular games of baseball, basketball, and volley ball, they have been having individual sports, such as: tennis, archery, and badminton. 25 V FOOTBALL SCORES Rio Vista 2 AAOO Danville 0 Livermore 26 Antioch 34 Amador O ..oooo L Livermore 19 eiee Crockett 20 A TEAM TOP ROW-J.
