From the results of the recent Regents Scholarship Exam some interesting conclusions can be drawn. Out of the total seventy $250 a year awards allocated to Sullivan County, twenty one were won by Liberty High School students with seven alternates. While producing the most winners and alternates, Liberty also easily outdis- tanced its neighborhood competitors. For example, Monticello and Fallsburgh combined only managed to come up with twenty two winners and ten alternates. Looking at the top scorers in the county, Liberty’s Michael Myers with a 257 out of a possible 300 placed fifth overall. The Regents Scholarship Exam probably proved to the rest of the county that we knew here at Liberty all along that being that our school is indeed of superior academic quality in relation to other local school systems. by Peter Harrison u Magazine Drive a Success The Class of 1977 surprised everyone with the returns of our magazine drive. We exceeded our goal by nearly $2,000 bringing in a record high $9,797.92. David Friehling was top salesman followed by Steve Wood and Joanne McCoach. Linda Most was the winner of the drawing for the T. V. 15 Our Best to: Mrs. Isabella Butler and Mr. George Hansen who are retiring this year. We thank them for being both a friend and a teacher. We have always appreciated their understanding and can never repay them for the time and patience they afforded us when we needed them. In a way, they are graduating with this class and we wish them a happy and healthy retirement. 16 Senior ADRIAN. DONALD - P.O. 171. Liberty. General. MENTA, ALISON - P.O. 22. While Sulphur Springs. Some people worked extra hard and put in many hours. I have placed a star after their names for special recognition. Thanks to all of you and good luck. Co-ordinating Sports Editor CLAUDIA WOODS 116 YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET 117 Varsity Football This year's varsity football team had a dismal year. The season ended with a 1- 7-1 record. The performance of the team itself can be explained in three words: miscues, missed blocks, fumbles. Lack of support also hindered the team from becoming an UCA1 contender. The team was assisted by a new coach, Andy Kav- elski, and a new offense, the Veer. Though the team didn’t finish first, Lib- erty had fine performances by seniors: Tim Burke, John Bottaro, Jim Green, Jon Kalina. Charlie Kester, Ed Marcus, Tim Stuart, and Kurt York. The offen- sive unit was not able to score one point thus, making it all too tough on the defense. First year man Coach Bowers and his assistant Coach Olsen did a commendable job. The JV program should pick up with many 7th and 8th graders out to play junior high football. The experience that these youngsters will get during these games will enable them to come up and turn around the JV program in future years. Junior High Football The first year of junior high football was successful and unsuccessful. It was successful since the boys got an opportunity to play, learn the plays and get acquainted with each other. The unsuccessful record was 0-5. Row 1 - D. Travis, D. Eggler, B. Kellam, L. Bill was also UCA1 champ at 98. This year’s team was well bal- anced. There were no one or two wrestlers to always depend on. When the team won, it won by a team effort. C.J. looks promising for next year. The girls' team also has some hopeful racers for next year. Lisa Yusavitz, Heidi Frey and Amy Anderson are among them.
