CONTENTS Cover Robin Gerry The Class of 1973 Dedicates Libertas to Mrs. Kramer Since Mrs. Kramer came to our school system thirteen years ago, the library has been a tool for real learning. She helps to provide the library with books and magazines that not only meet the course requirements, but which also sat- isfy the interests of present day youth. If our library does not con- tain a reference which one needs, she is willing to go to another library to obtain that reference. She spends hours evaluating books by reading book reviews and is always up-to-date on cur- rent issues and the latest trends. She has also been involved with various other school affairs including past-president of the Faculty Association. Therefore, the Class of 1973 has dedicated their yearbook to a very devoted and vitally interested person as our school librarian — Mrs. Rose Kramer. 3 Nothing Gold I Can Stay J Nature's first green is gold, Her harvest hue to hold. Her early leafs a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief So dawn goes down today. Nothing gold can stay. Robert Frost CHRISTOPHER ANDREW GOBLE Look into my face. Breathe with my eyes — laugh. My name is farewell. I laughed — and cried; both. But I lived, with every Silk toned breath, I lived, laughed and cried: both. breathe with me now, laugh for me, cry — my name is farewell 6 by Linda Steele I LENE DENISE WEBERMAN At the last, tenderly, all eyes turn with sorrow and regret. Torn, by unbelieving silence, we whisper oh, not yet — not yet. 7 By Linda Steele CANDIDS CANDIDS CANDIDS CANDIDS CANDIDS CANDIDS CANDIDS CANDIDS CANDIDS CANDIDS CANDIDS CANDIDS CANDIDS CANDIDS 11 12 13 This is my very own modern design of a cola-nut. 16 Mr. Brennen, don’t look at me like that! Mike and Debbie put the Senior Lounge to good use. 17 Ivan is stuffing in that energy food! a a I'm sure Mrs. Kramer said the number on that was F-33376105408. This isn’t an ordinary piece of popcorn. It’s really a very potent poison just disguised as a piece of popcorn. And if Cordelia doesn’t Harry's portrait of Harry. 21 27 Homecoming Weekend began with a dance Friday night where Nancy Hasbrouck was crowned Football Queen, and first runners-up were Bonnie Klein and Alecia Duncombe. Saturday morning there was a float parade through town. For the best float — the sophomores won. This was followed by a victorious football game against Wallkill. Also, the football field was dedicated to former coach William 0. Ross. 30 CLASSES CLASSES CLASSES CLASSES CLASSES CLASSES CLASSES CLASSES CLASSES CLASSES CLASSES CLASSES CLASSES CLASSES Bobbie Sue Allees Joyce Axelrod SENIORS Lee Allison Donald Baker Arlene Amaral Harry Beck Lance Berg Steven Beseth Laura Balanovich Barbara Beseth Charles Barrett Dennis Bivins Darcie Boyd Matthew Bessen Barbara Blank Charlene Blank Candy Boyd Ronald Brace Brian Brinn Larry Burney Thurmon Brooks Anna Cherepanov Juanita Chandler Juan Chandler Dolores Corigliano Patricia Cronk Joyce Deppa David Dermer David Edwards Robert Ekker Timothy Esolen John Filipovits Stephen Foster Thomas Ellison Nancy Fanning Michael Ezratty Keith Fuller Jay Friehling Gail Goldman Frances Geils Clifford Hamlin Ronald Greenberg William Henkelman Thomas Hart Barbara Hasbrouck Robert Hessinger Gary Hirsch Debra Hogencamp Lyman Holmes Ruth Huggler Pamela Hulse Henry Horvath Mary Ippolito Jerry Jacobs Nancy Kaweski Joseph Kelly Donald Kreindler Stanley Lipkowitz Mindy Krupka Joyce Kush Adrienne Lymar Judy MacNair Jody Markman 48 Gary Miller Dominic Muccino Sharon Minati Rhonda Morgans Susan Moore Cynthia Moses Keith Raggio Linda Rapenske Joan Rinehart Edwin Roth 51 Pamela Savage Stephen Sprague David Shiller George Siletzky Linda Steele Kenneth Sands Debra Stolinas Marc Stier Gary Taylor Waneta Tuttle Thomas Tate Picture Not Available Hope Turner Thomas Van Slyke Robert Ward Lois Weinstein Rena Weissman James Wood 55 David Zweck SENIOR DIRECTOR Y ALLEES. Happiness calls out responsive gladness in others. There is enough sadness in the world without yours. . . . Never doubt the excellence and permanence of what is yet to be. . . . Join the great company of those who make the barren places of life fruitful with kindness.... Your success and happiness lie in you.... The great enduring realities are love and service.... Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties. —HELEN KELLER JUNIORS J. Allbach B. Bartolo J. Bock P. Behan B. Benton M. Berry B. Bivins D. Bowers A. During the past year Christmas baskets were distributed to the needy fami- lies of the school district. Another function was a talent show in which money was raised for sickle cell anemia. Thespians This year the Thespian Club, advised by Mr. Kenneth Pusey, was very active in local productions. Although the club did not produce its own theatrical masterpiece, members were involved with two excellent school productions — Flowers for Algernon” and Gypsy”. Row 1, L to r.: G. Chanov. W. LIBER TA S Completed August 24, 1973 118 To All Those Who Should Be Concerned: This year’s Libertas would not have been published at all if a certain individual had not felt a sense of obligation in completing it. Why should the burden rest upon one person’s shoulders? Where were you the Seniors when your help was needed? Where were you the other editors and staff? Excuses are too late. It was your job to come to the meetings and see what needed to be done. It was your responsibility, especially you, the Seniors, who wanted a yearbook. I don't doubt there could have been better organization. But if you wanted a better yearbook, you should have gotten together and made it one. Getting different ideas and making plans about what items you want such as pictures, copy, etc., in the year- book have to be all done early in September or even started in late August. You can t wait until the end of June to make plans for the yearbook and intend to fulfill them. I know this sounds like nobody helped at all, but many did in dribs and drabs through- out the year. If only they had continued to help until its completion. So let this be a lesson to all past, present, and future Seniors, if you want a truly great yearbook work together cooperatively and have a sense of obligation in completing it so that your yearbook w ill be the best ever! FOOTBALL The Little Indians gave strong indication of great things to come when they went undefeated in 9 contests. Mr. Francisco instituted the triple option offense that allowed Lofaro, Cohen, Matthews and com- pany to ramble for 204 points. Meanwhile a stubborn defense was holding opponents to a mere 38 points a game. Mr. Witherwax suffered his first losing season as head coach of var- sity football this year. However, none of the losses lacked excitement. Liberty lost a total of five games, the largest margin being seven points. Any of those games could have gone the other way. Mr. Rapenske coached the defense that gave up only 70 points throughout the entire season. Jim Masters and Glenn Osterhout were named first team all-UCAL selections. , 'f% 132 Track and Cross Country Teams Seek More Participants RECORD Liberty 47 Marlboro Opponent 16 44 New Paltz 18 31 Wallkill 24 46 Red Hook 16 44 Coleman 15 37 Onteora 22 35 Rondout 20 18 Highland 43 44 Pine Bush 17 26 Ellenville 31 The Liberty Harriers surprised all of UCAL this year by placing eighth out of a field of eleven in the UCAL meet. Another unexpected surprise was the emergence of a quality runner, Herssey Bazemore. Herssey’s accomplishments were: fourteenth place finish in UCAL, tenth in the section nine meet, and a respectable showing in the state meet. 133 L to r.: J. Goldstein, T. Yaun. R. Bridges, S.
