ATTer Three years in Hanover High School he enTered GeTTysburg Academy Trom which he grad- uaTed in l9l9. He received his BA. Trom GeTTysburg College in l922 and laTer earned his lVl.A. aT New Yorlc UniversiTy. ATTer serving as principal in Two oTher schools he came To LiberTy in l93l. ln The sixTeen years ThaT Mr. Panebalcer has been principal many Things have been added To The curriculum. His TirsT aTTempT To improve The school was The addiTion oT a course in insTrumenTal music under The leadership oT TeIle+a Bourne. The music deparTmenT has since grown unTil now There are boTh an insTrumenTal and a vocal insTrucTor. WiTh band and DAVID E PANEBAKER orchesTra came The need oT an acTiviTy period when These Two ' organi2aTions could rehearse and oTher groups, inTeresTed in spcicfal proiecTs such as debaTing, dra- maTics. Junior Red Cross, could meeT. A course in home economics was added To The high school curriculum. This was soon Tollowed by The addiTion OT a new wing To house a meTal and wood worlf shop and a caTeTeria. ln l94O a new venTure was underTal4en when a STudenT Council was inauguraTed. This was closely Tollowed by The TormaTion oT The SaTeTy PaTrol, a group oT sTudenTs who have charge OT The halls during The passing oT classes. To recognize high sTandards oT scholarship, leadership, characTer and service This school received a charTer Trom The NaTional Honor SocieTy Tor Secondary Schools enabling iT To seT up The iunior and senior honor socieTies. FooTball came To LiberTy High in The same year ThaT lvlr. Panebalcer did and has been wiTh us ever since. Baseball has been resumed aTTer a lapse oT several years while Traclc and wresTling have been newly added To The sporTs group. ln The near TuTure lvlr. Panebalcer hopes To add a grade supervisor and a guidance Teacher To his TaculTy.
