I see the wild ecstasy of expectations cross the hopeful faces of our youth. I've seen the knock of opportunity anticipated and answeredg anticipated and overlooked. I not only try to teach English and math but also high ideals, standards and morals. I advocate the theory - Higher education opens the gates of opportunity wider. I, the administration, will not live on forever the same, but opportunity for youth will never fade. ,R ,kk' A .h , 4:1 fi. -- Ugnkg, K V is su X L . v ' a as . 5 f 1? 1 , Ku , ',Lf,L,h f' V .N 439: :X iff' mix? - k X :' k 'lv' Lam ' ,LQ3 r.zs1m'V 'fi . wks? - L' ' my - fuqgxli ff, ,. Kr: 5 - w COACHES MARVIN LAMPERT and DON HUGHES VARSITY REVIEW Those greater-than-ever Liberty Panthers rolled through their season to win the district championship for the third consecutive year and to become semi- finalists in the state playoffs. The Panthers did not achieve their outstanding record by luckg it took many hours of hard and diligent practice. This resulted in the best record ever held by any of the previous Liberty High School teams. In the first game of the season, the Liberty Panthers started their season play by holding the Deer Park Deer in rein to the tune of 13-0. Liberty showed a decisive lull in their season's activities as they slipped by the LaPorte Bulldogs 6-0. The Liberty Panthers broke their habit of scoring only in the last quarter by taking the Jasper Bulldog LIBERT kickoff and moving the ball 69 yards in 18 plays for the first touchdown. Before the game was over, the Panthers had marred the Bulldogs' perfect record as they collared the 'dogs 15-0. Stunned by their slight victory over LaPorte, the Panthers rallied with powerful line plays and long runs to chalk up a 39-8 victory over the Clear Creek Wildcats. The Panthers suffered their first loss of the season as the Alvin Yellow Jackets upset them 20-0. The Panthers took the first step toward the District 22 AA championship as they battled the Cleveland Indians 16-6 in the district opener. They piled up a 44-12 score against the Woodville Eagles, their second district opponent, before Liberty's homecoming crowd, T -lg Ar . Y L5 Q, . Its strength or weakness depends on me. I see the wild ecstasy of expectations cross the hopeful faces of our youth. I've seen the knock of opportunity anticipated and answered: anticipated and overlooked. I not only try to teach English and math but also high ideals, standards and morals. I advocate the theory - Higher education opens the gates of opportunity wider. I, the administration, will not live on forever the same, but opportunity for youth will never fade. V? Dear Students: Benjamin Franklin once said, l will prepare myself, and when the opportunity comes, I willbe ready. It has also been said that opportunity knocks but once. Lincoln was a great man because he took advan- tage of every opportunity offered him, therefore gaining success. Edison was a benefactor of mankind because he, too, took advantage of his boyhood opportunities. If we are to be great, we too must take advantage of each and every opportunity that may come our way. Sincerely, O f46,j!'d 1,9,g , 7112 vc! George H. Nail, Principal I44 Q5 F PN F -gg? ..1f... .'..f..ii sz. iv. . LEST WE FORGET E. L. PETERSON HE IS NOT DEAD I cannot say, and I will not say That he is dead, He is just away. With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand, He wandered into an unknown land And left us dreaming how very fair It needs must be, since he lingers there. And you--oh, you, who the wildest yearn For an old-time step, and the glad return, Think of him faring on, as dear In the love of There as the love of Here. Think of him still as the same, I say, He is not dead--he is just away, James Whitcomb Riley I 45 N if JV D H W lo u ,M r A w K' ' 'H w r W nw nn nn MRS. JIM BOB ROPER ' Sam Houston, B,S. I hold many memories in my soul of strength and weakness, growth and destruction, of hope and despair, laughter and tears of all the emotions that hold the people who are my throbbing, living heart. I have seen human lives begin, develop and peacefully end. I have seen the exhilaration of the youngsters who have within my reach as they leave my arms with rapidly beating hearts.
