She was born in Flint, Michigan and was raised in a Christian home. At the age of seven, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior. This teacher graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Baptist Bible Col- lege in Missouri. All her students can positively say that she is always willing to lend a helping hand and always there to provide a listening ear. The yearbook staff considers it a privilege to dedicate this year's yearbook to Mrs. Perez. Mrs. Aprilynne Lage The yearbook staff would like to dedicate this year's yearbook to Mrs. Lage. Mrs. Lage has been teaching the fifth grade at Liberty for seven years. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and she attended Pacific Coast Bible College where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Along with her diploma she received The Life Beautiful Award, which stands for an outstanding testimony with her peers, as well as her faculty and staff. Mrs. Lage enjoys volleyball, basketball and flower arranging. Mrs. Lage, we are very proud to have you as a teacher here at Liberty. i I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm- neither hot nor cold- l am about to spit you out of my mouth. This verse from Revelation 5:15-16 illustrates the theme Getting Hot! Getting excited about our rela- tionship with Jesus Christ and being a part of the family of God projected the movement of Getting Hot for God! throughout our cam- pus this year. I STUDENT CUUNCIL xi Rudy Sass-advisor, Carla Perez-advisor, Rick Hills-president, Darren Huntting-vice-presi dent, Margaret Richardson-secretary, Michelle Wong-treasurer, Chris Buckels,-chaplain. We Serve The Lord-By Sewing Our School. The student council of 87-88 has worked hard for you this year! A new system was devised in which students had to petition for the right to run for student council. This eliminated the nomination of students who had no desire to serve the school. We began the year with our very own bicentennial day, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Constitution. We then set our sights on homecoming, adding a few changes this year such as a carnival. In the meantime we purchased a pay-telephone. We are now planning films for chapel, Our Spirit Soars Competi- tion IIN and much, much more! i XXX I lf - I N, 'isa Carla Perez-advisor Rudy SaS5'0dViS0f 1 xlf 1:2 21 X XR, J! For two months I lived on the Isla de Margarita, just off the coast 0 Venezuela. The weather was very hot but I got used to it, and it helpe having so many beautiful beaches to go to. My family consisted of m parents, a brother, and five sisters, two of which were away at college My father was the education director over the whole island, and ml mother was also a teacher. I went to school with my youngest sister , couple of times. We got to be really good friends, and it helped to mee all of her friends! It was difficult to communicate at first since I didn know any Spanish and they didn't know any English, but by the middl of my stay we were understanding very well. I come from Germany. My country consists of two parts West and East Germany, The Eastern part has a communist government, but I am from West Germany, which is a democracy. My hometown is a very nice little town in Bavaria. The population is 45,000 inhabitants. Compared to American cities it is very old. The first farmers settled there 7,000 years ago. My father, in Germany, is a doctor and my mother is a housewife, I have a brother who is 21 years old. He graduated from high school two years ago and now works in a hospital. I also have a sister that is fifteen who still goes to school like me. We all like music and play different instruments. I myself play the violin and cello. We also all like skiing and hiking. Here in the USA I stay with the Otto family. Jay is my older brother and Christine is my younger sister. This is my first year in Football and I really enjoy it. Although the weather in California is always nice and warm I miss in some ways our colder climate in Germany. So far I've already seen alot of California and I am looking forward to a great year. All my AFS experiences fearthquakesll have been very exciting and I want to encourage every student to join one of the AFS programs. It is really important for everybody to know something about other countries and cultures. Victo- ries over Bloomington Christian, Hesperia Christian, and Leffingwell Christian, along with the first trip to the CIF playoffs since 1982 were the highlights of this exciting year. We were also acknowledged by other CIF coaches as being one of the top small school teams in the southern section by being ranked in the Top Five throughout the season as high as number two and fin- ishing at number five. E i'Special , UGreat , Awesome , Hthe Best - these are but a few of the phrases that describe the kind of season we had this year. What else would one expect since we returned with five seniors and four juniors from last year's successful team. This year was no less success- ful, we were repeat champs at the Arrowhead tournament, We fin- ished second in league, and for the second year in a row, we qualified for CIF. Winning matches was not the only thing that made this year great. Every practice left us with a feeling of satisfaction. We worked hard, played hard, and had a lot of good times. This season, nine players and a coach functioned as one, and together we conquered the many challenges that come our way daily. The best part of the year was the ability to look back and be satisfied with what we accomplished. There were no should'ves , L'would, ves , or could'ves . This year's team was unlike any other that I have ever been associated with since I started playing organized volleyball in 1978. It was some- what like a family. This year we will lose five of our family to gradu- ation, a very bitter-sweet occasion. Though they are leaving, Lisa Di Pietro, Krista Dobson, Kim Engstrom, Lisa Hoggatt, and Margaret Richardson leave behind a tradition ot dedication, hard work, desire, and winning for those who will play Liberty volleyball next year and in the years to come, Liberty volleyball's future is brighter because of their contribution. Next year, the pressure of carrying on the tradition of Liberty volleyball will rest on the shoulders of returning players- Heather Cielnicky, Sharon Crouch, Dawna Bingenheimer, Julie West, in addition to some outstanding up and coming players. For me this was the best year ever, and l'm looking forward to improving it next year, I hope many besides our players will come and experience the excitement, the power, the finesse, the tradition that is LIBERTY VOLLEYBALL!!! What a year we had, eighteen wins and only two losses! The season included many firsts for Liberty Girls' Basketball. We finished the season ranked second in the CIF southern section, and seventh in the state division five. Both rankings are the highest ever achieved by Liberty. We set team records in most victories: eighteen, fewest losses: two, most consecutive wins: sixteen, and the first ever undefeated league season twelve and zero. This year we set two goals: To repeat as league champions, and to go further than the first round in the playoffs. We succeeded in both goals but then felt incomplete because of our second round loss in the playoffs. Even though we felt depressed, our season and our accomplishments were enough to overcome. Be- sides several team records, we had many fine individual perofrmances highlighted by Sharon Crouch's 18.7 points, and Lisa Whitneyfs 13.7 points and 18.7 rebounds per game. The remaining girls of starting 5 + 1 pulled together their efforts and became one. Of the starting 5+ 1, four girls earned all league honors named to the first team Sharon Crouch, Lisa Whitney, and Heather Cielnicky. Kim Engstrom gained second honors. Sharon Crouch also earned league MVP honors. After four years we see several ladies graduate. Next year will not be easy, but a third consecutive league championship will be our goal. Ladies, again thanks for a very fun, enjoyable, and exciting season. Sincerely, David B. Clifton Coach TAKE ME QUT T A iq,-av ha f5?n g VARSITY: Standing- Asst. Christina Moon Me- setschkow was that rare jewel, a jewel with many bright and beautiful facets. She loved Cod very much. She loved to read and memo- rize scripture and to attend church and Bible studies. Her faith was solidly based upon jesus Christ and His light continually emanated through her. Christina? passion was success. Whether it was in the classroom or in athletics, Christina always strived for the best. In her nine years at Liberty, Christina never received a grade lower than a B. In fact, throughout junior high and high schooL she achieved straight As, thus making A Honor Roll five straight semesters. In , Za W ii' ' X , ' S., gk me g 6, A s, ,V - ig, ,Q - .Vt I www :I ' . 'Q X A f W, , an 3 .5 U AA i 'C C am ,, eighth grade, she was co-valedictorian and re- cipient of the Presidential Academic Fitness Award. Christina? success in the classroom was phenominal. In athletics, Christina received the Deborah Award in seventh and eighth grade. Inscribed on the award are these words: In appreciation for your dedication, hard work, and Christian attitude. These words very aptly describe the kind of athlete she was. She gave 10071 to her athletic endeavors. In addition to her Deborah Awards, and the Total Release award in sfotball. In eighth grade, she received the Total Release award in volleyball, basketball, and softball. In high school, Christi- na played only volleyball, where she received both the Total Release and Shield awards. Re- cently, Christina set some personal goals for her volleyball skills: To work my hardest at games and at practice'Q To improve my game every- day'j and To concentrate and not get frus- trated'f It was because of this sort of hard dri- ven determination that Christina was one of the best athletes to participate in Liberty Chris- tian sports. There was something else Christina had that outshined all of her accomplishments in the classroom and in athletics, that was her wonde- ful personality. One of the qualities she liked about herself was being a fun person after tak- ing everything that is work seriously. Though she was not a social butterfly, everyone knew her. Christina had qualities very rare in kids her age, qualities that were respected by all. She was very unselfish, she did nothing to promote herself or to intentionally bring attention to herself Never would she speak an unkind word about, or to others. It was easy for her to get along with anybody. She was a servant. She was grateful for all that she had. Rarely was Christina in a bad mood or unhappy. She loved her friends. She was kind nice, thoughtful, pure, funny, intelligent, diligent, patient, teachable, and gentle. Christina was untainted by this world Christina was one of the most beautiful girls one could know. Her beauty was true beauty, the beauty that shines brightly from the inside out. We all will miss Christina and her bashful smile, her B-line treks to and from classes, her tender heart, her hard work and sweat in the gym, her helpfulness in the student store, and her excitement over a successful block in vol- leyball or over receiving an '94 in class. We all loved Chrislina.' We thank Cod for allowing us to know this jewel. Moreover, we thank Him that she is now w Him. May all of us who caught a glimse of this ra bright, and beautiful gem be inspired to shine brightly and as beautifully as she did and maybe too can brighten the world we live in.
