.x4clmini:5frafi0n AL-Q 'Shun Gar. H. Hodson, ggmlisjeitroup, Principal RJ Q, 1... ig- - 1 Lloyd Lieurance, County Superintendent HISTORY OF SCHOOL One hundred and ten years ago a school system was established in Jackson Township. A modest one room school was erected near the Salamonie river at Sugar Grove. A suitable marker, erected in 1932, perpetuates the memory of this first school in the minds of the citizens of Jackson Township. From that modest beginning the edu- cational system has grown through the years to the present modern consolidated school. In 1936 the Federal Government offered to assist the township to obtain a new school building. This offer was in line with the governmental policy of creating new wealth and at the same time assisting those people who were Victims of the depression. The new building was erected at a cost of 3l25,600. The government through its agency, The Works Progress Administration, furnished 598,000 for its share of the cost. Therefore, the cost of Jackson Township was only 327,000. The township sold bonds amounting to S20,500. The remainder of the 327,600 was obtained by razing the one room school buildings and using the material in the new building. The State Board of Education issued a continuous commission to the new school immediately. Ordinarily a new school is in operation ,for some time before a continuous commission can be obtained. The first year of school in the new building began in 1937.
