Twenty new pupils entered the school room for the first time to start the long ex- perience which awaited them. Our first grade teacher was Miss Bernice Raber. Our other teachers Were' Mrs Esther Roe, second: Miss Mary Mendenhall, third, Miss Mildred Gavin, fourth, Max Boltin, first half of the fifth grade, and Miss Mae McCarty, second half of the fifth and all of the sixth. Mr. 1-larry Coolman was our teacher for the maj- ority of the subjects in the seventh and eighth grades. The class of 23 members entered the Liberty Cen- ter High School doors to become the Freshman class. This was in September of 1945. Our presi- dent was Roger Zoll. The other class members were, Darwin Markley, lohn Noe, Kent Craig, Bob Poul- son, Ioan Huffman, Phyllis Moore, lim Penrod, Har- old W. Ellett, Roger Highlen, Vera Mae Oswalt Ioyce Fryback, lim Mounsey, Edmund Burns, Max Overmire, Gene Wolf, loan Lydy, Mary Turner, Bill Gaiser, loe Clarke, Harold Williams, Marjorie Brad- leyfand Opa Faye Collins. Of this group nine were of the original class of 1937-1938. Mary Ellis was our sponsor. The next year we lost Max Overmire, Gene Wolf, loan Lydy, Mary Turner, Harold Williams, and Marjorie Bradley. ln the middle of the year Ioe Clarke left us and Carl Noland moved in. Luc- ille lvins also joined the class. The class president was Darwin Markley. The business this year was the purchasing of our rings from Terryberry Co., of Grand Rapids, Mich- igan. We sold schedule pencils and booster hats. Page Eleven Our sponsor was Eldon Aldred. As the year of 47-48 rolled around we had the same number of members as the previous year. Darwin Markley was again elected as president. The other officers were: vice presi- dent, Bob Poulson, and loanne Huffman, Sec. and Treas. The class had more business than ever before. We were in charge of the school paper called The Liberty Bell. Our faculty advisor was Amy Zimmerman. We were in charge of concessions at all ballgames. Also we presented That Crazy Smith Family as our first class play. We picked our class motto, color, and flower. As we entered the Senior year we had lost one member, Opa Faye Collins. This was a final stage of our high school education. Dar- win Markley was President, Bob Poulson, Vice President, Phyllis Moore, Secretary, and Vir- ginia Stroud, Treasurer. We put on the play Tree Points lnn, the last semester, and had three bake sales throughout the year to help pay for our trip to Washington, D. C., at the end of the year.
