jAe Cyan of 1949 - -' - ' ell 261125 :Ia fel' Time has flown by and believe it or not, it is the year l959g just ten years have passed since we were jolly seniors at L. C. H. S. l, joanne Huffman, having been a vocalist for a national network in New York City, am starting my first concert tour to the west coast. Traveling with me is Phyllis Moore, noted pianist. She has been my accompanist for several years. While Waiting for our plane at LaGuardia Field, l bought a newspaper and noticed a picture of an old classmate, Darwin Markley, on the front page. He is now a noted surgeon, who just returned from Europe, after successsfully performing a Very rare operation. We then boarded the airliner and nearly fainted, for who should We see on the same plane, but Kent Craig, a member of the l949 graduating class. Kent is now playing baseball with the New York Yankees. As we were going in the same direction, we de- cided to stop in our home town to see some of our graduating class. We were wondering who the good-looking pilot was and received a shock to learn upon landing in Washington, D. C., that it was none other than Roger Highlen. He received his commercial lic- jense after spending three years in the Army Air Force. As Congress was in session, we decided to at- tend. Upon entering, we heard a familiar voice, that of Edmund Burns. He was elected to the House of Representatives just this year. Of course, back in government class, he always did like to argue. We returned to the airport, only to learn that our plane was late due to motor trouble. However, the efficient mechanics soon remedied this. We were surprised to see jim Mounsey working on it. He is now head mechanic at the airport. Continuing our journey, we flew to the Bluffton- Wells County airport and began looking up some of our classmates. We stopped in the old high school hangout, Pry- back's, and there was Mrs. Ralph Smith, formerly Ioyce Eryback, who is now owner of the store. Oh yes, she has four little Smiths to help her, too. We inquired of Lucille lvins and it seems that she surprised us all. Lucille, who was never interested in boys, was married just one year after we left L.C. H. S. She and her husband now reside on their 260-acre farm in Liberty township, with their two children. Proceeding to Liberty Center, we dropped in to visit our old L. C. H. S. But now there is a modern new school building with built-in gymnasium an swimming pool. Bill Cfaiser graduated from Purdue University c a Civil Engineer, and the building of the net school house was under his supervision. The school term has now been extended to nin months, so we went upstairs to find Mr. Biberstine our senior sponsor, still teaching history and got ernment. While at school We glanced at a letter with familiar name on it, from a large sporting good concern in Chicago. Carl Noland now owns a Chai of stores, however he is located in the main offic in Chicago. We bumped into john Noe, as he stopped to vis on his way up north. john was a mailman for fiv years, when he met and married a millionaire. H spends his winters in Florida, and summers in Car ada on her money. We heard that a classmate was to be in the 50K mile speedway race at Indianapolis, so we Went t find out. Sure enough, there was Iim Penrod, ou school days daredevil, leading the race. Believe 1 or not, he won first place! We finally proceeded on our trip and stopped i Chicago for something to eat. Noticing the labe Ellett's Super Holsteins , on some dairy product: we looked a little closer. lt was the label of Harolf Ellett, who now owns a group of large dairy farm in Wisconsin. The Holstein business really seem to be' good. Our next stop was in Reno, Nevada, where W met an old friend, Bob Poulson. He invited us t visit his large gambling casino and night club. B the way, gambling is legal in Reno, and Bob hap pens to be very rich. We always thought tha pool might lead to something bigger. Continuing on to California, we heard that a nc tional majorette contest had been conducted i: Hollywood. The new champion is none other tha: Virginia Stroud, our high school twirler. Our last stop of the trip was at the M. G. M. Pic ture Studios, where we watched a new movi being filmed. We saw several girls swarming around the stai and upon getting a closer look, we remembered tht handsome face of Roger Zoll. Our senior Hglamou boy has finally reached fame. With our tiresome, but interesting trip completec maybe we shall stay awhile and take it easy. Wonder what ten more years will foretell? Ioanne Huffman Kent Craig Page Fourteen
