THE BEGINNING . . As the summer days become shorter and the air becomes cooler, we begin to realize that it won't be long before we return to Liberty-Benton for another school year. Summer activities, jobs, vaca- tions, and even the Hancock County Fair draw to a close leaving only our Hrst day back to school to look forward to. It's not so bad though. Returning to Liberty- Benton in September gave us the chance to get reacquainted with our friends, become involved in school activities, and even to step up the ladder in class status. The 1984-85 school year brought about many changes that none of us could escape. If Septem- ber didn 't End you getting used to the noise cre- ated by the tiled hallways, then it probably found you a senior out of place in the gym at lunch time because the lobby was off limits. A large seventh grade class and a number of new students in the school this year caused a big boost in student enrollment. The atmosphere of Liberty-Benton became much cozier in the halls as students attempted to squeeze their way to their classrooms in just three minutes. Ifthese changes didn 't bother you, then you may have been affected by the new class requirementsg Hnding yourself with less study halls this year than in the past. Seventh graders were enrolled in a new required reading course while high school students loaded their schedules with requirements for graduation. Closed exams, lunch in the multi-purpose room, and a later date of gradua tion for seniors were just a few of the many other changes that affected the student body of Liberty-Benton during 1984 and 1985. But all of these changes taught us a lesson in adaptability that we may have been avoiding. By dealing with changes this year, we prepared our- selves for the thousands of upsets the future prom- ises to hold. Many things seemed to stay the same, however, much to our surprise. The band went on at half time, there was no open lunch, and the classrooms were cold. Most important, perhaps, were the an- nual commencement exercises that ended a very successful school year at Liberty-Benton. 2f Opening Section ' 'f
