We were officially entered into high school with the freshman initiation. During the year we collected tax stamps. At the beginning of our sophomore year we welcomed Virginia and Ronnie Kuhlman, Gerald George, Ron Karhoff, and Ron Tesnow as new members. Rejoining our class was Bob Bumgardner. We were sorry to see Bob Walters leave us. We ended the year with an enrollment of 31. We had Mrs. Wareham as sponsor this year. Then came a hectic junior year. We were fortunate enough to have Mrs. Gongwer as our sponsor and help us along. This was our first chance to make money for our senior class trip. We began by selling Christ- mas cards, then sponsored the Homecoming dance, and finally handled the concessions at the basketball games During the year we also tried our hand at our first theatrical performance, our class play Two Dates for To- night, which was directed by Raymond George. We finished our junior year by letting the seniors beat us on Junior-Senior Activity Day, and by honoring them at the Junior-Senior Prom. During the year we cordially welcomed Sally Eulitt to our class but regretfully said good-by to Steve Hart, who had been with us nine years. Later in the year, Diane Ernest left us and moved to California. Finally came that long awaited year when we, the graduating class of 1960, could initiate the new addi- tion to dear o1e Liberty-Benton High. The new gymnasium, chemistry lab, classrooms, and cafeteria made our final year very pleasant, and one we shall not forget. Again, as last year, we were on the money-making trail. Only this time, we sold peanut brittle, handled the concessions at the football games, and along with the Student Council, we served the Homecoming Dinner. We then sponsored a record hop and a square dance, and finally served a dinner to the Dairymen's Association. Again this year the old pros in the class put togeth- er a class play, a murder trial, The People Versus Maxine Lowe. This was under the direction of Mr. Shull. This year we started out with a total of 25 and Bob Peterson joined us during the year to make our final total 26. Ironically, this is the same enrollment with which we began our four years of high school. We had considerable help this year from our sponsor, Mr. Howard, who gave much time and effort toward making our final year a success. I 7 Virsfinia Class Prophecy I awoke this morning with the oddest feeling. It seemed that something special was to happen today. About IO o'clock I received news that I could visit Professor Wareham's new laboratory. As soon as I received the message I made all haste to visit the lab. When I arrived there, I was informed that he had perfected a new invention. A Time Machine: Of course, I was wild to see it and try it out. Imagine my disappointment when I saw noth- ing but a very common looking armchair in front of me with a few electrical gadgets connected to it. I soon learned the magic of this machine. though. I sat in it and asked the Prof. to, propel me twenty years ahead in time. He threw a small switch and the next thing I knew I was just awakening twenty years from now. I found myself preparing to make a trip around the world with two of my best friends, Gary Kisseberth and Sally Eulitt. They had established a series of smart shops and were making the trip on their profits. We started from our home town, Denver, Colorado. We stopped at the l-lazelton, re- puted to be the largest hotel in the world. Judy Snyder had gained ownership of it after her late husband's death. It was beautifully managed by Lester Brown. When we came to Ohio we stopped, of course, at our old home town, Benton Ridge. It was now a great city, due to some discoveries made by David Fisher. It seemed that David had found some great deposits of oil on his farm and was now very rich. We were entertained here by Lana Randolph. Lana told us that Phyllis Burner and Linda Shoop were still as inseparable as ever. They were still ensnaring men as they used to at L. B. H. S. Our next stop was New York. As we arrived at the station, we were met by screaming newsboys who shouted that Ron Tesnow, who had gained the title Bachelor Broker on Wall Street, had just made another big haul. Here also we saw Ron Karhoff and Denny Lytle, whose great invention had contributed a great deal of comfort to the age. In the evening, we decided to see the new show Sky Rockets in which Fern Bracy was starred as a dancer. Her name was in lights ten feet high. In England we attended the meeting of the Women's International Athletic Association at the invitation of the president, Elaine Radabaugh. In Paris we were surprised to see Virginia Kuhlmang she had come there as a delegate to a designers convention. She told us that her old flame, Dan Hankins, was doing some remarkable farm research work in Washington, D.C. While traveling through Czechoslovakia we ran across Iim Mitchell. He had come there to study the Slavic Dialects to prepare him for the post of Professor of Modern Languages at Harvard ln Russia we saw Larry Kisseberth and Wayne Benson. Mr. Kisseberth explained to us that he had just left the employment of Jim Mitchell to join Wayne, who was rapidly becoming a notable wheat farmer in the U .S. While changing trains in Persia, we were accosted by a white clad Doctor who seemed to know us. We soon recognized him to be none other than Dan McCarthy. I-Ie told us that he was employed as a private doctor. He and his patient expected to go on to Egypt. In India we stopped to say hello to Lorena Anderson who had taken up missionary work and was now trying to convert little Indian pagans. Just before sailing from China, we met Mark Hanna who was one of the better civil engineers of the day. He was responsible for many of the new classic designs in the architectural structures over the world. Arriving again in good old U . S. A . we went first to Los Angeles and Hollywood. Here we saw Ronnie Kuhlman and Fred Lanning broadcasting over an international network. They had become very popular. Ron said that Bob Peterson was running a Hollywood service station, Cater ing to film stars. Shortly, I was back in Professor Wareham's laboratory in IQ6O. I thanked him for my wonderful trip and hurried home. A TV news flash reported an explosion in Professor Wareham's lab destroying the remarkable machine. This year's football squad was composed primarily of young and inexperienced boys. Only four seniors were out, who served as a nucleus for the team. These were Mark Hanna, Lester Brown, Dan Hankins, and Dan McCarthy. These boys took turns as acting captains for the games. At the end of the season an honor- ary captain was chosen by the entire squad. This honor was bestowed upon Mark Hanna, who played 4 years of football for Liberty-Benton. Y Along with a few juniors, many sophomores and freshmen saw action in the games. Although the Eagles were unable to hit the victory column, the experience gained by these underclassmen should be of great ben- efit in the future. BLACK and WARNER'S IAQUA'S SPORTS-MARINE, INC. Although we are much smaller than most of the other county teams, we are playing ball with a lot of hustle and drive. The first part of our schedule shows our winning of several close ball games and losing some close ones. Our 1959-1960 basketball schedule is not yet completed but we are improving with each ballgame and are looking forward to the Hancock County Tournament games. The Varsity squad is composed of five juniors and seven seniors. They have shown a good team spirit and the ability to play together. They have a won-loss record to date of 9 wins and 3 losses, one of which was by I point. Most of the reserves are looking forward to the final game of the season which pits the reserves. against a team composed of faculty members. JOHN-S TV SERVICE HOLLAND FURNACE COMPANY 401 W.
