The Class of 59 CLASS HISTORY The Liberty Benton Class of 59 started their four years of high school in 1955 with their advisor Mr Moore At Freshman rnrtration, the Seniors officially made the class of 59 a part of Liberty Benton High School The Freshmen also emoyed provrng that they were worthy of the high school by taking active parts in athletics chorus and band and many other activities The class of 59 started their sophomore year with Mr George as their sponsor and they were very sorry when he was called into the army But Mr Alberti came and capably filled in for Mr George During the year the class collected tax stamps which were to be used to help finance their class trip They also enJoyed decorating for the commencement exercises 1v1t1es were devoted to earnrng money for the class trip They served dinners, sponsored a square dance and bake sale handled the concessions at basketball games and sold Christmas cards Another project whrch made money but also produced much emoyment was the class play Here Comes Charlie Since there were so many hams in the class the play was given on two different nights with two different casts The directors were Mrs Miller and Mr King On May Io, 1958 ending a wonderful year they sponsored the Junior Senior Banquet with the theme Stairway to the Stars When the senior year rolled around the class of 59 entered it with great anxiety but they also realized that this would be the last time they would be starting a school year together Never the less they set about the many tasks which were waiting to be completed It was necessary to earn additional money for the tr1p so they handled the football concessions sponsored a square dance served a dinner and sold peanut brittle All these things were carefully supervised by Mr Howard their sponsor Again they put on a very successful class play This time it was Aunt Samanthy Rules the Roost directed by Mr Shull Of course that final year had to come to an end But rt closed sw 1th many memorable events The Juniors treated them royally at the Junior Senior Banquet on May 8, and their last day of school May 15 was spent in games with the Juniors Then on Sunday afternoon, May I7 they had Baccalaureate and left that evening on their long awaited class trip to Washington D C and New York With them went their chaperones Mr and Mrs Howard Finally on Saturday May 23 1959 rn the most beautiful of all commencement exercises they grad uated thus putting the finishing touches on four wonderful years at Liberty Benton High School With Mrs. Gongwer as their advisor, the class of '59 eagerly began their junior year. CLASS PROPHEC Y My name rs Deadeye Drck I m a prrvate eye Whrle I was travelrng through Frndlay Ohro, rn 1979 look rng for unsolved murders, I spent the nrght at the Fort Frndlay Hotel As I was checkrng out the next mornrng, the manager, Paul Bash came up to me He asked me to hunt up some of hrs old classmates from the Lrberty Benton class of 59 Srnce I had no other pressrng assrgnments, I decrded to take the Job As I walked out of the front door of the hotel I stumbled over a man srttrng on the steps He turned out to Everett McCarthy, the world s rrchest hobo He sard that srnce he had nothrng better to do he would drrect me to ome of hrs classmates rn Frndlay Our frrst stop was at the Ohro O11 Company As we stepped rnsrde the door, we ere met by the pleasant receptronrst, Karen Dukes She sard that many others from the class of 59 worked rn thrs ame offrce Sure enough, we found Mrke Foster, engrneer, explarnrng some blueprrnts to hrs secretary, Sharon Vorpe On the next floor we found Brenda Allen and Margaret Parkrns busrly typrng letters for the presrdent of the company Our next stop was the Blanchard Valley Hosprtal There, head nurse Judy Krng, showed us through the burld rng We stopped rn the laboratory where the medrcal technologrst Paula Whrtney, was makrng a blood test Next we peeked rn the operatrng room where head surgrcal nurse Judy Zoll was assrstrng wrth an operatron Our last stop was rn the krtchen where Grace Halsey, dretrcran, was preparrng the patrents menu Across the street we saw Nancy Gongwer s Horse Hosprtal Srnce rt was about noon, we decrded to Sat lunch at Wrlson s Hamburger Shop We had delrcrous hamburgers repared by the head cook Nellre Clymer Whrle we were there Kay Mrsamore, a socral worker, brought rn a roup of chrldren from the orphanage for a treat After lunch we journeyed out to the arrport for a weather report from the meteorologrst, Roger Helms While we were there we saw a Jet arrlrner take off The pretty stewardess, Janet Powell, told us that the plane was ound for New York wrth none other than the popular srnger Dohn Hoenrcke, aboard After leavrng the arrport we stopped to get some gas at Brll Hrngson s servrce statron He told us that many from the class of 59 had gone back to roost at Lrberty Benton So we made that our next stop As we drove rnto the parkrng lot, Sara Radebaugh was blowrng the whrstle to call her fourth graders rn from recess Insrde we met Ronald Leatherman on hrs way to teach hrs brology class He was rn a hurry but he found trme to brag about hrs football team Downstarrs rn t musrc room, we found June Krdd teachrng the scales to some of her puprls Across the hall Tom Herdlebaugh s gym class was playrng a fast game of basketball.
