I had lived there for fifteen years and decided to go back to Findlay. my former town. for a vacation. My nrst desire was to see the I.iberty School. It was a larger and better school than ever. I went through the Building and saw it was more like a College than a High School. Mr. Eibling. who was our Sponsor back in the school days. was still the Superintendent. Miss Cramer. who was our home room teacher was still teaching History. Margaret Hurless was taking Miss Holden's place and was leaching Home Economics. Driving on I came to where Blue Pigeon used to be. lt wasn't changed so very much except they had a grocery SIOYC which was owned by a tall slim man to whom I was introduced. by the name of Dallas Cramer. The people told me that Dallas and another freckled-faced man. whom I recognized as John Neeley. were bachelors. They bought them a home and were living there together. Ohf yes. Dallas had gotten quite thin, for John had to do the housekeeping while Dallas worked in the store. Not taking Home Economics John was not very well trained to this work, especially cooking. They wanted me to stay a while but l thought I had better travel on. I stopped to a garage to get some gas and saw I.ee Morgan. He had become a very capable mechanic. He told me if I went on a little farther l would come to the aviation camp. At the aviation camp I saw an old class mate Carl Hissong. He had become an aviator. He told me he had been Professor of Chemistry but blew tip the school while experimenting with a new chemical and was fired. Of course he wasnit hurt a bit for he had practice in his chemistry class at Liberty. Carl told me Ruth Wells. who had gotten quite fat. and Ralph Good were married at last. Poor Goodie had such a hard time with his studies. Yes. he is a better driver than he used to be. you see he had a lot of practice driving with one hand while in High School. I met George Moorhead on the street while on my way to a show, He had become a Professor of History. He seemed to be very sad. I presume it was because Marcine Payne would not marry him. But no wonder she had become the head nurse at the hospital in Columbus. George told me his friend Clarence Smith had become a Doctor. I don't know. he didn't say. but I suppose he meant a horse Doctor. I left George and went to the show. lt was very good. I forgot to tell you I saw Harold Smith on the screen. He had become a famous comedian. I left the show and walked down the street a way until I noticed a large sign which read Fagan Barber Shop. Stepping to the door l saw a large shop with about two dozen women sitting in the barber chairs. l then noticed a handsome man coming out of one of the rooms. I recognized him as my classmate Everett Fagan. He told me he owned the shop and had a large trade. He always did like to pull hair when a Senior, Everett told me that I.owell Doty had become a great Evangelist and was preaching in all the big cities. Warren Niswander, a former friend of Doty's accompanied him and did all the wonderful singing. Vwlalking through the streets I saw three girls whom I never expected to see. They were Oral Ifreed. Hilda Cramer. and Thelma Miller. Oral said she was married and contented for once in her life. She was also pushing a baby carriage. Hilda said she played the piano for Thelma while Thelma did the singing at Iiunerals. Thelma always was a sad girl. Yes. and quite religious. The girls told me Margaret Lanning wasn't married yet. She had a hard time trying to get the right man. She was quite particular in her younger days. Oral told me where Virginia Shaw lived. I hunted her up and renewed my acquaintance with her. I hardly knew her for she had changed a great deal since our school days. She had become quite bashful. She couldn't bear to look at the face of a clock nor the bare table legs. l stayed a day at Virginia's and heard a good bit of news about the rest of the class. To my surprise she said Helen Miller was married to Alfred Compton. She was quite a delicate girl and couldn't stand much work. Well she doesn't have to now for she has all the servants and help she needs since she married Al. Al had become rich and built a large. city where Benton Ridge used to be. He had started a college for Chemistry and had been quite famous. l suppose he is trying to be a second John D. This we might say is the finale to our high school days and the commencement of new endeavors. To you who have attended former commencements this may seem like the same old thing but we the actors are thrilled with the joy of our triumphf This is otir first attempt at staging a high school commencement and we hope it has been as pleasant to you as it has been to us. Having fought the long battle with our books we are crowned with our diplomas which pro- nounce Well done. my good and faithful student of the faculty and board of education. kVe have now completed a course which enables us to go forth into the world as a good and trained citizen. Universal education is necessary to make a stable government and nation. Vv'ise were Our Pilgrim Fathers who. in the General Court of Massachusetts. as early as I6-l7 compelled every town having a population of fifty or more householders to establish a school where the children could learn to read and write. Nor did they stop at this. They founded schools for higher learning, until at the present day we have our modern high schools. colleges and universities. Our Fathers were not only looking forward to a progressive New England, but to the development of our nation. lndeed this is our day. Even the faculty fade into insignincance beside us. Vv'e stand here, fearlessly. before them. free to say what we wish without the intimidating thought that tomorrow they will call us down for levity of thought or action. lf you are not impressed with our looks we ask you to remember True greatness lies within. not without. Should you not be greatly moved by our words of wisdom and oratory we would remind you that. Still waters run deep. At any rate, if we are not especially distinguished as a class. we are proud to be here this evening. We are both proud and pleased to have you to these. our ceremonials of victory. --Vera Ridge TEXTBOOKS NVebster tells us that his idea of a textbook is A book with wide spaces between the lines for notes. lior most of us that dehnition is a trifle unusual. The books we use in school to- day do not have the wide spaces between the lines for notes. A history teacher stands before her class with a history book as the textbook to aid her in teaching the class. A minister in his pulpit uses the Bible as his textbook. From this guide hc takes his text and endeavors to teach his congregation better ways of living in accordance with the text he has chosen. So we have the history book as a guide to the teacher and her pupils. the Bible as a guide to the minister and his listeners. There are textbooks for every profession or calling and these books vary according to the purpose for which that profession or calling is striving. Professions differ. callings differ and the tastes of people differ, but the textbook that is universally attractive is the life of a famous man or woman with an extraordinary personality. A would be musician seeks encouragement in the life of a musician who has reached the top, for between the lines of any famed life there are wide spaces for us to jot down our mental notes and really study fame. Those of us who are struggling with financial difficulties become acquainted with the stories of great Gnanciers who were once of limited means and we try to discover their methods of climbing the scale of finance. Various examples could be cited in each profession bitt each person has his own favorite biography to inspire and guide him in his own doings, Schoolbooks may change and reference books may change but the life record of a great character will always stand as a source of encouragement to the multitudes that follow. -Helen Dukes I'.X'l-Nil. lllltl I l i : l l i i i i l SNA PS iv Je- Wk ,aj IN X AUTOGRAPHS f1.ff4M !'5' fa. ,X ,V J A I I www QU ffdcwcww 0,91-:.z,4-u, Qfumbxx Cl-ww. The first step up the ladder was over and it wouldn't be long ttntil our second step would be taken. September rolled around and we were glad to enter into l.. H. S. again. We were greatly surprised to see only twenty members in our class. Those who did not return were Margaret Pearsel. Mary Thompson. Pauline Lemons. Della Radabaugh. Martha lillen Bishop. l.illa Belle Gentry. Martha Jones. Gerald Gross. Donald Clark. Thomas lilick. Gail Patterson. and Raymond Lamping. Vlfe were very sorry that they had to leave. Vvle again elected XVilson Kuhlman as President: XVilbur Clauss. Vice-President: Opal Huff- man, Secretary-Treasurer: Clara Chapman. Reporter. Mrs. l.ightfritz acted as our sponsor, Vife did not have weak knees this year as when we were 'ilireshiesf' This year we waded right through thinking we were as good as the rest of the high school students and I guess they will have to admit this. Now the second step was taken and we were ready for the third. This was a very successful year. XVe entered with fifteen members this year. Those leaving were Ruth Jorden. Clara Chapman. l.eona Benner. Gladys liinerd. George Dorner, We then elected the following ollicers for the year. President. Wilbur Clauss: Secretary- Treasurer, Ruth Burner: Reporter. Norma Stewart. Mr. Conrad acted as our sponsor. The time came for the purchase of our rings. XVe are all well pleased with them. XVe also helped the Seniors in purchasing the stage curtain. We have been in all the activities of school since we were Freshmen such as: liootball. Basketball. Baseball. Tennis, Glee Club. Orchestra, etc. XVe are proud of having as next years captains: Football. Wilson Kuhlman and ot Basketball. Ruth Price. We hope they will have as much success as previous captains. March ll, the Junior class presented their play, The Family Upstairs. at the school and we hope everyone enjoyed it. March 25. it was repeated in Jenera at the Town Hall. NVe are working on the Junior-Senior banquet to be given May Z. We are trying to make it the best banquet that has been given in the school. The months will soon roll away and we will then be ready to take our fourth and Iinal step to graduation. The class has been small but l think we have had a very successful year in spite of this. The hard work and cooperation of all the members make this possible. l.et us all return next year and help to make it the best and happiest of them all. 7Norma Stewart. John Bryan, and Howard Foltz, But Howard moved to Rawson just before our class tournament and we felt very sorry to see him go. but nevertheless the Freshmen hoys got to the finals in the tournament. There were also quite a number of Freshmen who went out for baseball. This year the girls organized a team and they have been having a lot of fun out of it, We have saved up what we thought quite .1 lot of money in our treasury and we decided to make use ol' it. Vy'ell, we bought ice cream for one of our parties and a few other things during the year. which almost stripped our treasury. Taking the whole year in general we have had a trying year, but in the midst of our toiling we have found that we were only having fun. The Heller family are not poor, yet they are far from being rich. but they manage to make a living. Mr. Heller has worked hard all his life and doesn't get much peace at home because Mrs. Heller is always trying to put on airs. Mr, Heller and Willie. the seventeen year old son, are always quarreling and father would usually win out in argument, but for mother who takes Willie's part. Annabelle is the baby sister and how she does hate to practice her piano lessons. She never does much else except play on the street. What is really interesting is how hard Mrs. Heller tries to get a husband for Louise. the older daughter. When Charles Grant begins calling on Louise. she thinks that he is an op- portunity and she tries to make the best of it. After trying to put on airs in front of Mr. Grant and causing a lot of trouble for Louise, Mrs. Heller finally sees them engaged. Miss Calahan. Mrs. Grant and son. Mr. Conrad came here well recommended. His fine ability may easily be seen. Team work and a high class spirit prevailed throughout the season. lt is true we did not run up large scores against our opponents but what need of that? ' We scored in all county games except Arcadia. After a hard fought battle on a bad grid l iron the score still remained O-O, We were but a few feet from a score several times. We wtrc , defeated in non conference games by Pandora and Bluffton. ln county competition our opponents only scored 6 points, that being made by Vanlue in our Erst game. This shows our excellent defense. During the season we scored 105 points to our opponents 45. Thus is the story of Champion team of IQZO. OUR TEAM lKUllLMrlN and MOORliHlii'xDl Two fast ends, hard to stop. They were fast and accurate covering punts. Willie is captain elect. Good luck. Willie. So long, George. tlTAti0N and MORKRANP Two hard hitting tackles. always on the go. Their motto was Get your man before ht gets started. twoomvaim and Bowl Woodie and Dick held the guard positions in great style. Getting through them was e going through a brick wall. ,I tRai.PH Goom Goody had a wonderful talent in passing the ball from center. He was a bear on defense always there to stop his man. I tSIMSJ Sims was the brains of our team. He knew just what to do on all occasions. tHissoNo and Ifoifrz J And here are two hard running and hitting halves. Dutch's end runs were a feature Dana was a whiz at breaking up defense and line plunging. tC1.a1ttaNtgif SM1'l'iit Captain Smith was the backbone of the team. His puniing and plunging were marielous On defense he was everywhere at once it seemed. tSMl'l'll and NISWANDERJ They were utility men of high class. I would get tired of the same boss all the time too Vylhile at Virginia's I listened to the radio. I heard a voice that sounded familiar lu me. It was the voice of Vera Ridge, She had become the worlds hes! cook and made out receipes and announced them over the radio. She always was quite experienced in this work when she was quite small. I heard another program over the radio. It was a one girl orchestra. This girl was famous in playing several instruments at the same time. lt was a very delightful program. Ohf yes. I most forgot. The famous girl was Helen Dukes I enjoyed my trip very much and also the visit with my classmates, hut time was getting short and I was compelled to go back to California. On my way home I stopped at a small ranch for a rest. I was surprised to see Harold Vy'oodvvard ride up on horse back. He told me after leaving school he came to Xklyoming In become a cowboy. He bought large droves of horses to break in and sell. Afterwards he bought a ranch and began to raise his own horses. I then stopped at Hollywood and saw Ruth Simons and Earl Sims. Ruth had become a second Helen Kane and was quite famous. Earl had taken Douglas Fairbanks place and was quite a hit with all the girls You know he did have quite a time trying to keep away Irom them at school. I returned home tired and weary but happy from seeing my old classmates. I was very satisfied with them. ---Nlargarel Sutton 5.5! 1 'Sf - II 'VJ l SIXIY I IYI- I CGOPER SERVICE One ogqliios Most Beauti u an Com- 1 plete Automotive 5 Stations TIRE and BATTERY SERVICE Stztmlztrrl ztml Nlllltbllill fiztsuliites :tml Oils I i tl c le ting, .md Repair Service l Cut Wztslimg -lligli :tncl I.uxx' lll't'SSllI'l .Xlvmite llrcztsiiig Service Suliio - lfilztwo - Quaker State Oils I 2---Sctvice L :mrs---2 CALL MAIN 5 1111011 all Night 4,1 Cooper Armored Cord Tires .X stiiviwiiic ZlL'lIlCYUlIIL'IIt of muster tire lmilclers. l'usitix't' trztctimt uiiclci' :ull mmlitioiis. lim-in tilt-:ul :md sturdy cztrcztss rt-duces cltzuices uf 1mllitClui'L's. llesigm-rl fm' lung min-skicl life.
