I f' '4 When the first week in September of 1948 arrived, we, the Class of '52, marched into the assembly and found our traditional seats on the south side of the room. Eagerly we awaited the following Friday as it was the day the sophomores had chosen to initiate us. After surviving this harrowing ordeal, we attended the mixer given in our honor. The next momentous event in our high school career was the election of class officers. Don Currie was elected President, Norman Mertel, Vice President: and Darleen Delzer, Secretary-Treasurer. Dolly Ur- dahl and Paul Beccari were our freshmen representatives to Student Council. Mrs. John Price and Mr. Kenneth Card were our class advisors. Two girls, Joanne Zimmerman and Shirley Homann, were elec- ted to represent us in Peptomiss. Then Hi-Jinx time approached. Choosing Joan Edstrom as our candidate for the queen contest, we fresh- men broke a record by having Joan crowned queen. With the coming of football season our class prepared for the annual Homecoming. Dolly Urdahl was chosen as a princess from our class, We closed our year's activities with the annual St, Patrick's Dance given for the sophomores. In the following fall we, feeling a little more confident in our home than in the previous year, were en- rolled in our second year of high school, now we were the initiators. During the first class meeting we chose the following leaders to guide us on our way: Paul Beccari, president, Eugene Engle, vice-presi- dentg Dolly Urdahl, secretaryg and Lloyd Hamlin, treasurer, Student Council members were Del Stor- dock and Geraldine Munsel. Darleen Delzer, Gerry Munsel and Dolly Urdahl were tapped for Peptomiss, while Paul Baccari and Del Stordock both received their L's. For homecoming three girls from our class were elected candidates, Dolly Urdahl, Mary Vick and Fern Canng of these three Fern was crowned queen, ' As Hi-Jinx time arrived again, Dolly Urdahl was chosen candidate for the queen contest. Again our luck held and Dolly was crowned queen. Mary Vick and Del Stordock were elected as cheerleaders. The re- maining months were quiet for the sophomores, The third year we enrolled as upperclassmen in L.H. S. Of course, our first class meeting dealt with the election of class officers. Paul Beccari was re-elected president, Gerry Munsel, vice-president, Dolly Urdahl, re-elected secretary and treasurer. Student Council representatives were: Lois LeDuc and Eu- gene Engle. Marvel Leckrone and Norma Hafferman were tapped for Peptomiss. Eugene Engle, Jack Dyson, Paul Beccari, Del Stordock, Bill Lamey, Dick Davidson and Larry Urdahl all made their L's. Mary Vick was re-elected cheerleader and Marvel Leckrone was a new cheerleader -elect. Homecoming was at hand again with Shirley Homann and Glenda Carroll as Princesses from our class. Once again we prepared for Hi-Jinx, choosing Darleen Delzer as our queen candidate. For the third time we were victorious, setting a record of winning the queen contest for three consecutive years. On May 1 of this year the Memorial Gym was beautifully decorated for the theme of Chinese Honey- moon for the annual Junior Prom. Willa Powell and Delvan Carroll were honored as king and queen from the senior class of '51. On September 1, 1951, we registered for our final year at L,l-LS. As usual, first on our schedule was election of officers, Del Stordock became presidentg Eugene Engle, vice-president, and Shirley Swenson, secretary and treasurer. Student Council representatives were Dolly Urdahl and Ross Koehler. Qcontinuedp Sponsored by ZONOLITE COMPANY eaiafz pw As we board our rocketship which will take us into the future, we set the controls to 1957 and with a burst of power we take off for the first step in our journey, the fair city of Libby, Well, here we are, We landed on the lawn in front of our favorite school, Libby High, where we find John Crotteau as janitor. He just couldn't say good-bye to the old school. Suddenly we hear the clang of the fire engine and we rush to the window in time to see the fire chief, Gerald Wood, standing gallantly on top of the head engine, and as he flashes by we catch the word Chargel As we walk out of the high school and down the street, we meet Shirley Baenan whose name isn't Baenan anymore. She's happily married and is doing well in her business of being a beauty operator, Next, we meet Phyllis Folden who is carrying a large box of stationery. In case you're wondering the stationery is for letters to the Navy. Keep the letters coming, Phyllis. All at once we hear a terrible racket. It's only Gary Delaney buzzing up Main Street at 60 M.P.H. with his car loaded with girls and more girls. Mary Jane Vick is still working in a grocery store trying to earn enough money to get married. Keep up the good work, Vicky. Eugene Clara has stepped right into his dad's shoes and is working at the mill. As it has been quite a while since we started our trip, we find ourselves looking for a place to eat, What a coincidence! We are right in front of the Surprise Cafe where we see Beverly Nelson who has advanced from waitress to cashier. Congratulations, Bev. And now it is time to board our ship and take a spin down highway No. 2 where we see Kenny Hoefner merrily riding along by himself. No, he's not by himself! We can barely see Carol Menehan's head sticking up. So after seeing all of our friends in Libby, we take off to visit Boulder where Norma Hafferman is located. Don't get the wrong idea. She's not a patient but a psychiatrist. Now let's take a quick trip to Dillon where Shirley Kins is studying like mad to be a big businessman's secretary. While we're in Montana we may as well visit all our friends in Missoula. So, off we go to find Del Stor- dock and Jimmy Davison studying studiously over their books. Before we leave let's go out to the ath- letic field where we see Paul Beccari who is now a big hero, We hear that Paul is going to the Olympics this year. Is that true, Paul? From here we go to Big Sandy, Montana, where we find Marilyn McArthur happily married and she now has 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, herds of horses. She likes horses, From here we set our controls for Washington D.C. where Lois LeDuc is the first woman president of the United States. Fern Cann is her Secretary of State. Keep up the good work, Fern and Lois. As we cruise over New York City, we spot Donna Gompf rushing to work. She is now employed at Macy's Department Store where she specializes in ladies' lingerie. Now let's take a quick spin to Minneapolis where Marvel Leckrone and Shirley Homann are training to be stewardesses, From here we go to Minnesola State where Shirley Swenson is busily drawing pictures of all her instructors. fcontinuedj Sponsored by FASHION CLEANERS fm' Wa!! ,-hd '7e4zmwfz We, the Class of '52, being of sound mind and body, but still mindful of our many hardships and memo- ries of Libby High, do publish this our last will and testament: As a class, we leave to the Class of '53, our books, desks, lockers, and anything else they can get their hands on. We marched into the assembly to find our traditional seats on the south side of the assembly. We eagerly awaited the big day of being initiated and of becoming legal members of L,H. S. Our first class meeting was devoted to the election of officers with the result as follows: Charles Taylor, president: Gary Bowen, vice-presidentg Edith Iaros, secretary, Pat Sheehan, treasurer: and Merrill Partlow and Leonard Darsow, student council members. We chose Mrs. Robert Gillespie and Mr. Albert Oursland as our class advisors. Gail Sherman was cho- sen a member of the Peptomiss. lt was soon Hi-Jinx time, so we chose Edith Jaros as our candidate for queen. We gave our annual St. Patrick's dance in honor of the sophomores, which ended our activi- ties for the year. As sophisticated sophomores, we again returned to Libby High School in the fall of 1950. This year we were the initiators, and, therefore, we gained revenge for our treatment as freshmen. David Sherman was elected presidentg Beverly Beebe, vice-presidentg Merrill Partlow, secretary-treasurer: and Gail Sherman and Bill Sheldon, student council representatives. This year Virginia Rice and Laura Williams were chosen as Peptomiss. Hi-Jinx finally ar- rived, and Jean Ward was our candidate for queen. Homecoming was one of our highlights for Merrill Partlow was elected Homecoming Queen. In 1951 we entered dear old L. H. S. as upperclassmen. Beverly Beebe headed our class as presidentg Curt Evans, vice-president, Sue Rawlings, secretary-treasurerg and David Sherman and Edith Jaros, student council representatives. We elected Mrs. Yarlett and Mr. Camp- bell as our class advisors. Again we welcomed Hi-Jinx with Gail Sherman as our queen candidate. This year Edith Jaros was chosen as a Peptomiss. With an encouraged outlook, we hope our Senior year will be as successful as our past years. A 'ri X S ' is S6 f 1, lk. 5 Sponsaed by SLEIZ.ER'S GROCERY STORE -nn., , ,K 4. 3 ab' 4' -, -V, K , ,F . Two weeks after our en- trance we became full-fledged high school students as a reward of a grueling day of initiation not without the noted egg shampoo. As soon as school was out we rushed home to spend the ensuing five hours in a bathtub, trying to remove the lipstick, shoe polish, and skunk oil, which covered our heads, arms, and legs. That night we were honored with a dance. Our freshman president was Kenneth Hamlin, vice-president, Brad Baethg secretary, Gloria Preston: and treasurer, Alan Becker. That year there was a freshman, Dick Riddle, chosen as a cheerleader. When time for Hi-Jinx arrived, Carmen Pondelick was chosen as our queen candidate. Not knowing the tricks of the trade, we lost. In March we staged the traditional St. Patrick's Dance, thus bringing to a close the events of the year. On September 4, 1952, we were old timers returning to school to take up the work of sopho- mores. The first thing which we did was to change the initiation from a boring, smelly, messy day into a day of work, during which the incoming freshmen worked while the sopho- mores supervised. The upperclassmen were allowed a free afternoon, returning at 3:30 for entertainment provided by the freshmen. We greeted them with the annual dance that even- ing. Dick Riddle was once again elected cheerleader by the student body. Dick was also elected sophomore class president: Pete Volkenanu, vice-president: Gloria Preston, secretary, and Alan Becker, treasurer. ln the homecoming elections two of our classmates, Gloria Preston and Sherrie Belangie, were princesses. When Hi-Jinx rolled around, Gloria Preston was crowned the annual Hi-Jinx Queen. It was the biggest win of all years. We had looked forward to it for many years and when the day finally came we were somewhat frightened. After a few days of learning our way around and getting in good with the teachers, we began to realize that we had to settle down to be on the honor roll. After a few days of teasing from the sophomores, the big day of initiation came. Instead of painting us with lipstick, we had to clean and polish the high school tmtil it shone. Most of us thought such activity was just about as bad as the traditional type of initiation. A few weeks later we had our first class meeting and chose our class advisors, Miss Helen Storey and Mr. William Stone. We elected the following people to serve our class: Kay Benedetti, pre- sidentg Gail Doxtater, vice-president, Iacke Sahr, secretary, Billy Morrill, treasurerg representa- tives to student council, Danny Waylett and Linda Erickson. Yvonne Kins, Dorothy Croy and Jackie Sahr were elected into Peptomiss, and Arden Rayson was voted into L Club. Hi-Jinx time came quickly, and we chose Wava Olson as our candidate. We worked hard but did not succeed in winning. The Freshman class is the largest in high school, but the upperclassmen are having fun bossing us around. We are getting used to it now and are beginning to stand up for our rights. We hope to work hard in the future to increase our good ole school spirit. The Libby High School TERRIERS opened their 1951 grid season on Saturday, September 15, by defeating the Flat- head Reserves at Kalispell 12 to 6. Stordock brought the stands to their feet in the second quarter as he galloped 53 yards for Libby's initial T, D. Evans went over fa the second score in the third period. Libby traveled to Kellogg, Idaho, September 22, to meet the Kellogg Wildcats, last year's pan-handle champions. Libby lost a one-sided game in their first meeting with the Idahoans. Dyson snagged a pass from Beccari for Libby's one score. Undoubtedly playing their worst game of the season, the TERRIHIS lost to the Columbia Falls'Wi1dcatS on the Cat's home Held, September 29. Libby should have won the game but seemed to be suffering a moral lapse. ln the annual Homecoming game played on Saturday, October 6, the TERRIERS entertained the strong Polson Pirates and went down to defeat 26 to 0. Libby played good hard football but the Polson weight and experience proved too much for the lighter Libby boys. At Ronan October 13, the Ronan Chiefs received the breaks and dropped the TERRIERS 13 to 6. Stordock tied the ball game up at 6 to 6 in the second quarter but fumbles and penalties robbed the Libbyites of three more scores. Playing their only Friday game, the TERRIERS edged the Mission Bulldogs 13 to '7 on October 20. It was Beccari and Rayson who brought home the bacon in the first two quarters of the game played in a drizzling rain. On October 27, invading the home of the conference champions, the Whitefish Bulldogs, the TERRIERS collapsed in the second half to go down in defeat 26 to 7, Stordock made Libby's only touchdown in the second quarter on a 10- yard scamper. On their home field November 3, Libby exploded for four touchdowns and an extra point in the second half to de- feat the Eureka Lions 25 to 0. It was by far Libby's best game of the year, and everyone played an outstanding game. Libby lost two touchdowns because of penalties in that wild second half. In the first half Libby lost several scoring Op- portunities again because of innumerable penalties. In Libby's scoring spree Beccari scored twice, Dyson and Rayson once each, and Engle made the extra point. This year's team was made up mostly of underclassmen with only four seniors on the squad, all firm stringers. Del Cfinyj Stordock played wingback, I ay Dyson was left end, Rudy Engle was left tackle, and Paul Beccari was the tail- back. These seniors had a lot of help from Sheldon, Volkenand, Adamson, Evans, Baeth, Sherman, Thompson, Ray- son, Taylor, Walsn, Krigbaum, Rasmussen, E. Adamson and others. Basketball got off to a flying start at Libby High with a win over the Bigfork Vikings in the opening game of the season. But as the season wore on, the TERRIERS lost many good players by way of injury, the service, and dismissal from the team. At the district tournament in Polson, the fighting Libby team went down in two straight games against much taller opponents. The higilight of the season was Libby's defeat of the highly touted Ronan Chiefs, The thrilling game played in the Memorial Gymnasium brought forth the score of 31 to 30. Terrier prospects look good next year with six returning lettermen. 54? U' 6 Q . sponsored by nor M. The track team won only one meet this year which was a dual meet between Troy and Libby. Libby placed third in the county meet and seventh in the district. The futurelooks brighter, however, and the Terriers should field a good team next year. Sponsored by LUMBER and SAWMILL WORKERS NO. 2581 Seam fcon't.j With the coming of football season we prepared for our last annual Homecoming. Glenda Carroll was elected queen, and Marge Nelson was a princess. As Hi-Jinx time approached, we were determined to win the contest again to set a record for all four years. Shirley Homann was our candidate, but unfortunately we were defeated by the lowly but -worthy sophomores, Next on the list was the Senior Ball for which the Junior High Auditorium was beautifully decorated to the theme of Candy. On February 8, we presented our senior play, SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER. Through excellent caaings by Mrs. W. J, Erickson, the comedy made a smash hit with the Libby audience. For the closing activity the senior class went to the Flathead Lodge on its annual Sneak Day. Seam fddd pzoikeq 4...-f., Now we journey to Seattle where we plan to look up Dolly Urdahl. We find her located on the Navy Base and she has four children, a dream come true. Can you guess what their last name is? While we're in this part of the country, let's drop in on Doris Hamann who is taking telegraphy in Portland. I thought you were going to be a telephone operator, Doris. As we come to a stop in Hollywood, we see a large billboard advertising Marge Nelson's latest triumph. The theme of it is ROMEO and JULIET, and as we glance again at the billboard we see Ross Koehler's name also. As we walk by, we can hear noises coming from the theater. It's only Marge and Ross studying their parts. We can hear someone say, Haml From here we go to San Diego where we see Rudy Engle, Leo Hoppe, Norman Mertel, and Jack Dyson. Their com- manding officer happens to be none other than Billy Lamey. As we retrace our steps, we find ourselves in Troy, Montana, where we find Glenda Carroll happily married to you known whom. Now we take a short jaunt to Warland where we find Merle Everett who is driving the school bus to Libby everyday. Our rocketship has blown several fuses and we are running but of fuel, so we find our ship coming to a rest in that wonderful town of Libby. cum fddd 7042! 4...-I, NORMAN MERT EL: Bequeaths his manly chest to Arden Rayson. Baskets of apple blossoms, placed about the gym, added much to the spring theme. On each side of the thrones were trellises decorated with flowers.
