Text from Pages 1 - 54 of the 1950 volume:

COTTON BOLL DEDICHTlOf) To Mias Martha Griffin, who through her cheerful cooperation and eager helpfulness has enriched our four years of high school, we dedicate this. .our 1950 COTTON BOLL. She has encour- aged us to acquire greater knowledge from reading and research and. at the same time, has ever been understanding of our personal affairs. For this service which comes from her true interest in us, we wish to express our deep appre- ciation. As the crowd gathers. I recognir.e several of the fans to be members of the 1950 graduating class. It seems almost like a class reunion! As I come in the gat e I notice Imogene Townsend and Lyda Dickerson, who told me they were Commercial and English teachers, were selling tickets. There was Mary Beth Myracle. who came to Lexington as a Home Economics teacher hoping to ensnare a husband, only found more old maids such as Arba Me Peake. Story Jean Webb, and Johnny Eads. There seems to be a reserved section for such prominent couples as Musa and Bob Hart. Genevieve and Murl Garner. Lcasie Mae and 1. D. Cook, and Anita and James Bird. And there goes the principal, why. it is Jerry Smith who always wanted to be a school teacher. Here come the 1970 undefeated, unscored on Tigers! They are led by their captain. Segerson. Harold ' s offspring. Coaches Billy Joe Havener and John Roberts have been building up for this game since Coach Billy Kelley is scouting for Notre Dame. And now for the kickoff! Lexington kicking. Wait! It seems I have seen that figure somewhere before. Why. it is Royal Wood ' s son. Who else would you expect? There it goes and Jackson fumbles on our ten yard line. Pharmacist Wayne Hinson ' s son recovers the ball. This seems tobe a one-sided game . Why don ' t we look in the stands. What ' s all the commotion over there ? Why. it is Nellc and Bill Wheat with their nursery school. She always wanted a school and Brother! she ' s got one! The secretaries. Jean Bradfield. Danny Joy Bush. Faye Holmes. Edith Hart, and Berdine Kizer. are listening intently as Margie Anderson tells them what every secretary should know. Number 53. son of cotton and petroleum expert. Johnny Pearson, has just been brought off the field. We are sure he will soon be alright because there goes Dr. Ben Hay with his special nurses. Excclle Jowers. Betty Me Peake, and Betty Sue Martin. And now at the half, the score stands 20-0 in favor of Lexington. Lexington ' s one hundred piece bund led by their instructor. Vunce Little, is now forming un L“ out on the field. The football boys in their places, are about to witness the crowning of their 1970 Football Oueen. The maids, daughters of the former Peggy Patton and Dean Rhodes, ure now approaching the fifty-yard line. It seems history repeats itself for here come the queen, daughte r of Patsy and Ray Frizzell. Patsy looks as thrilled as she did the day she was crowned. |4 Many of the 1950 members. Waynard Cary. Clyde Hollowed. Sammy 15. Wheeler, ftfarray Wheatley. Jimmy Fronabarger. and Billy Duke, have at last realized their nbition to be salesmen. They are now selling popcorn! There are quite a few prominent people here today. Our governor, John King leadows. is surrounded by such notable movie actresses as Betty Stanford. Cilda r M. and Lounellc Lewis. Lounellc is hardly recognizable since she has been •tnortzed in Hollywood. Hugh Fisher, a famous lawyer from Dallas, is unsuccessfully trying to convince lene Jarrell that he should be altar-bound. Gerald Spraks, Senator from Tennessee, greeting with a smile, all his former supporters, Denton Bush, Weldon Carnal, aD. Jowers, Jerry Moody. David Wheeler, and chicken-fa rmer, Johy RayZimme rle. The armed forces are represented by P. F. C. James Threadgill and Seaman rerun James Meals. New lights, installed by Leroy Gant, electrici.m. have replac ed e old ones on our football field. and Lenots Mays . We are very happy that Excell Johnsc lending such social events as this one. Mary Birchett, we see. has the new look. She has Just returned from Paris. She is accompanied by Bobbe Brower, now a buyer for Macy ' s of New York. Over there on the 20 yard line are the former Carol Jane Crook. Eva Katherine Bie. Jean Stewart. and Mary Ga rnerdiscussing howto have that last word with their ifeand . Jo Jean Garner, children’s nurse, seems to have her hands lull as she ■ects her assistants. Mauree Wood, Onita Tucker, and Willie Clay Solomon, inthe re of the child rrn of the lormerMary Rhodes, Jewell Faye Middleton, and Elizabeth ■ford. Melba Walker, county librarian, is being quizzed by Mary Sue Vineyard. Mary rlyn Wrbb. and Ruthie Lee A ' oods.as to what new novels a re suitable to read w hile boss is out. Better late than never, here comes the postman. James Ross, bringing some nted material to conservationist. Thomas Edward Jowers. And now 1 recognize by Bradfield puffing that 10? cigar and singing his own musical hit, “Mule Trail. Hev. I was about to forget the Lcxineton Progress editor, seated beside me. Joe Allen will really make headlines with this. Ob. 1 almost forgot lotell you how the game is going. Gee! it’s over and Lexington i won 40-f . We have been scored upon, but it’s alright, buys, just think what the ire was 20 years ago! 15 MRS. W. J. HILLS Sponsor MRS. E. S.
