The story takes place in New Orleans in the l76U's, at the time when France ceded Louisiana to Spain. Colonists, with the aid of a pirate crew, defeated the Spanish army which came to rule them. Manon, a French Countess who poses as a peasant girl, leads the colonists in the intrigue and as the story ends she renounces her royal birth and leaves for Virginia with the young patriot, Bob Finchley. The cast was as follows: Glenn Moritz General Hubrey. French Governor Gilbert Gierhan Eugene De Lorme, Hide to the Govemor Charles Hnderson Maxime Grandpre, a wealthy citizen Donna Rae Hnderson Yvette Millet, Maxime's ward Virgene Norris. Marion De Lange, an immigrant girl Keith Zimmerer lean, Le Farge, French pirate Delbert Kopl Bob Finchley, a Virginian Dean Latter Captain Beloit, ol the ship Marseilles lames Roberts Don Hurelio De Mendez, a Spanish envoy Helen Falkinburg Marquise De Villebois, a wealthy Colonist Ieanne Kain Countess Bellaire, niece of the Marquise Beverly Kreitz Ianette. an immigrant girl Phyl Martin Lenore, an immigrant girl Patricia Hastings Iavotte, governor's housekeeper Mary Iane Oldlather Chloe, a slave belonging to Maxime Hlan Shada Pierre. a negro butler Piano accompanists were Shirley Ransdell and Marilyn Burnett There were ten chorus groups ot soldiers, sailors, townspeople, colonial men and women, and immigrant girls. Rented cos- tumes and scenery were used, adding a great deal ot color to the production. Coz- turnes for the colonial men and women were elaborate velvet and satin with bro- cade and lace trimmings. Qll principal characters wore white wigs. The soldiers and sailors were in uniform, and the immi- grant girl chorus was picturesque in peasant skirts and blouses. Some of the featured numbers were: The Flash of the Skippefs Eye, France, Glori- ous Franceln, ul Long for the Golden Hour, Pt Stale World and a Pale World, 'The Lion and the Mouse, Hlust a Kiss, Whats the Matter with the Moon Tonight, and ln Silence. Mr. Peterson has been following this recipe with his mixed chorus, consisting of fortyfseven girls and fortyfone boys. Meet- ing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at eight o'clock in the morning, this group together with the other choruses provided the cast of the operetta and furnished many programs for the enjoyment of the students of L. H. S. and the public. Pit the Christmas program these choruses mastered the diffi- cult lllallelujah Chorus by Handel. Qfficers of the mixed chorus are: Iack Regouby, president, Maureen Zeplin, vice- president, Chips Qnderson, secretaryetreas- urer. loanne Hennek, librarian, Shirley Flansdell, pianist, and Virgene Norris, music council representative. Mr Fetersons advanced chorus consists of fortyffive girls, many of whom also bee long to the mixed group. The advanced chorus meets during the second period on Monday, Wednesday and Friday These girls formed a large part of the operetta cast and have contributed greatly to the success of the many appearances of the school choruses. Every Friday, under the chairmanship of one or two members, a program is pre- sented to the chorus group. The programs consist of singing, instrumental, and speak- ing numbers. The purpose of these Friday morning programs is to help the girls be- come accustomed to performing before an audience. Qfficers for the group this year arei Donna Rae Plnderson, president, Iane Qlkire, vice-president, Mary Iane Oldfather, secree taryftreasurer, l-lelen Falkinburg, librarian, Marilyn Burnett, pianist, Beverly Kreitz, music council representative. The first year chorus is comprised of twentyftwo girls, most of whom are fresh-- men, This group meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the fourth period. These girls took the parts of the Spanish soldiers and the Negro chorus in the operetta and helped with the other programs Page -14 f 54 1 vf W if' A , . COZFID Opening Southwest Conference play, the mighty Minute Men thoroughly trounced the favored Cozad l-laymakers with a convincing 32 to U margin. MCCOOK Qgainst an inexperienced McCook team, the Minute Men romped to a 32 to U victory, Fl pass clicked for a touchdown on the third play from scrimmage and from then on the Orange and Black rolled in high gear. The win gave Lexington its first victory over the Bison in five years and helped avenge last year's 20 to U defeat. GOTHENBURG Continuing a 3U point per game scoring pace, the powereladen Minute Men handed Gothenburg their worst defeat in the history of the rivalry of the two schools. H heavier Swede team was unable to match Lexing- ton's scoring thrusts, and although picked to win, they were badly outplayed and de- feated 32 to U. KEHRNEY The Orange and Black continued their winning ways and won another Southwest ,.L. Conference victory by defeating a strong Kearney team 30 to 7. Taking advantage of an early Kearney fumble, the Minute Men went ahead to stay. By playing heads-up ball, the well-balanced Lexington team notched their fifth straight victory. HOLDREGE The old f-loldrege jinx almost stopped Lex- ington's winning streak when the Dusters matched Lexington punch for punch for three quarters.
