Anna Cleary Doris Christensen gg fagzazy Alf Lexington High School Libiary was organized ln 1936 The school llbldlj movement is young In the e ementary and jumor hrgh school it is still in the experimental stages In the high school it IS only a quarter of a century old During the school year of 1936 '47 there were only ten school systems in the state of Nebraska maintaining libraries and furnishing full time lib arians Lexington can well be proud that of these ten it is the smallest in enrollment Obxiously the library is a xaluable educational agency and unquestionably it 19 only a matter of time until all schools of our class will be requlred to support this progressive trend in secondary education We are to be congratulated upon haxing a Superintendent who would be a leader in such a moxement and a Board of Education who would support a moxement which distinguishes Lex ington from all other schools of its size 1n the state are to enrich the chool curriculum by proxidmg library serxice for students and teachers to acquire and organize library materlal for school serxice to gixe instruction in the independent use of libraries and of books as tools to share with other departments of the school the responsibility of fruitful social training to foster informational reading as a habit to encourage the habit of reading for pleasure and to dex elop the library habit For those graduates who vtill continue their education in some unixerslty or college the library will haxe prepared them so that they may use the larger college library successfully For those graduates who will not go to college the library will haxe opened an axenue of opportunity for continued education which is limited only by the desire of the person to learn -L.!il40IYk.J I ll The Library was organized to accomplish certain dehnite objectives.
