CHOW TIME — BUT WHO JUST EATS? Look out, Julia Child, your efforts are wasted on us. No one here bothers to chew food twenty-five times, (Chew the fat, maybe, food, Never!) While a few manage to escape uptown for some REAL food, the remaining brownbaggers wait in endless lines for pot luck. We eat, sure, but we do that all day. When else but at lunch can a group gather for an impromptu game of football or frisbee? Where else but in the lunchrooms is the noise level out- done by nothing short of WLEX or the bell’s echo in the curved upstairs corridor? Socializing, study- ing, sunbathing, sleeping ... Lunch? A long trek home PEP RALLY! AFTER THE BELL For those who didn’t scramble to work or to catch a bus home, LHS was a mecca of assorted activity. The memory of a sometimes dreary day faded as warm-ups began, clubs came to order, and rehears- als got down to business. Most of us managed to sleep through 6-8 weeks of Driver’s Education (though few were able to “observe” a nervous lear- ner from the back seat without some jittery feel- ings). Many a day, bagged students were spotted “tidying-up” the campus. The main hall was con- stantly lined with various bake sales and fund raising projects. It was after school that com- mittees met to create “innovative” publicity (or propaganda) for the upcoming rallies, trips, din- ners, dances and gym activities. It was after the bell that meetings tried to reorganize our school and our lives. And it was after the bell that we shed the label “students” and became people. 19
