LISHMENT = a ; Left to Right: Mr. Harris, Mr. Thurlow, Mr. Adzigian. To the Class of 1968: Your class has seen greater change and development in the organ- ization, the facilities, and the student life of Lexington High School in its four years here than has any preceding class and more than we can foresee for some years to come. Yours was the first class to come to the high school as 9th graders. You were the lowest of the low, for the 10th graders were newcomers, too. It was this year that we occupied the new buildings and used the unit system for the first time. Can you remember those opening days with rented furniture, unfinished science rooms, ubiguitous electricians, carpenters, plumb- ers, and lost students and teachers? This 1964-5 school year was a difficult one for all. More than half our students were new to the high school. The juniors, too, were in a sense newcomers as they had suffered a costly and alienating double- session the year before. Furthermore, the total student body and faculty were strangers to the new facilities and organization. It is no wonder that the year started with some confusion, frustration, and disunity. This was the time that press and TV chose to spotlight our discorientation. However, before the year was over we had staged an amazing comeback in which your class was an active participant. We saw major revivals in basketball, hockey, and gymnastics perform- ance. Our basketball team fought its way back into the Garden for the Tech Tourney. Echo was born in the spring of that year. Our newspaper, yearbook, and literary magazine productions acquired new looks. We initiated a new era of modern Broadway musical productions with “The King and I’. By the end of the year, we were fully launched on an exciting new phase in the development of our school. In that year and the following three, your class has seen and participated in a great variety of new additions or directions in our program. Your needs and interests have prompted the introduction of many new courses and enrichment opportunities. Some of the innovations you have nurtured .or suffered during your four years here include: Y.E.S. Unlimited, Humanities, the Work-Experience Program, the Math Team, Computer Scheduling, Data-Processed at- tendance and report cards, the revival of class dances, new varsity sports such as swimming, wrestling, lacrosse, girls’ gymnastics, and indoor track, It's Academic, unit competition, senior privileges, inde- pendent study, the new Student Organization, and many more than there is space to include. The contributions of the class of 1968 have been greatly appreci- ated. The spirit that has characterized your class organization from the beginning has been a significant factor in what would appear to be a real renaissance in high school life in Lexington. We owe you a great deal and will miss you accordingly. Very Sincerely, CHARLES C. JOHNSON Principal
