Crotchety Mr. Vandergelder (D. Washburn) scolds Mrs. Molloy (M. Shannon) for harboring two men in her coat closet. THE SENIOR PLAY This year’s senior class play, The Matchmaker, by Thornton Wilder, was a satire on the typical comedy of the early twentieth century. Exaggerated action such as Peter Paxton’s hiding under a table in Mrs. Molloy’s hat shop and the near-dismantling of a fashionable New York restaurant spoofed the conventional stag- ing of many plays. During many tedious rehearsals, the cast, headed by Kathi DiNunzio and David Wash- burn learned that farce was probably the most difficult kind of play to perform. Nevertheless, the final produc- tions were fun for the audience and rewarding for the participants. The matchmaker herself (K. DiNunzio) chats with Mrs. Molloy and Flora VanHuysen (J. Diamond) with Cornelius Hackl (N. Greeley) and Minnie Fay (E. Kaleta) in the background.
