OLUUENT COUNCIL First Row: R. Berglund, J. Furdon, P. Dodge, J. Downey, Mr. Moyle, R. Burke, J. Swanson. Second Row: N. Thomann, A. Cotter, W. Short, D. Gray, J. Durfee, M. Cumming. Third Row: J. Fradette, R. Higgins, R. Rosenberger, K. Cox, J. Hathaway, W. McDonough, J. Adams. Under the capable leadership of their officers (R. Burke, president; J. Downey, vice-president; P. Dodge, secretary; J. Furdon, treasurer) and the faculty adviser, Mr. Moyle, this year’s Student Council members continued their campaign to bring about a closer relationship between the council and the student body. Early in the year they held an assembly in which they explained what the council is and some of its functions, such as the sale of A. S. A. tickets and the planning of social affairs. During October, four Sophomore members and one new Senior were elected. The greatest single accomplishment of the council this year was the introduction of a more democratic voting system, patterned after the one used nationally in adult elections, and complete with checkers, ballot-clerks, and private voting booths. This system was used effectively in the . election of class officers and Lexington’s candidates for Good Government Day (J. Adams for the Senate, and K. Cox for the House of Representatives). The Student Council was also instrumental in the distribution of a new and better ‘Spotlight’, which appeared in the form of a small magazine, and in the purchase of a much-needed public address system for the school. 30
