The graduating class of 1946 may look back to one of the most successful football seasons in many years. In spite of several thoroughly disheartening “breaks”, the team never lost its buoyant spirit. Mere records, however, can never relate the whole story. They can never tell, for instance, of the stunned look on the faces of a cocky Reading team when the flighty Lexington eleven marched down the field for a dramatic first period touchdown. They can never tell of the anguish of a team when a touchdown is called back for an offside penalty. We could reminisce for pages about the 0-0 deadlock with an ‘inferior’ Howe team, about the Lexington squad at its best in its sweeping victory over Needham, or about the “conquering” of Concord and their “reconquering’ on the Rta-Grid Quiz on WEBS Z, Let it suffice to say that this year’s squad was a team that rose to meet its opponents and that continued to battle until the finish whistle.
