Q th nx XYJZA 02 Life is a play and we are the players with the world as our stage. One mightier than we has cast the parts and, in time, we shall play them to the finish. The cos- tumes vary and are forever changing. Each scene is more complex than the last and leads to the conclusion of the play. Our scripts have been partially written, and it is for us to complete them. The quality with which we perform as actors determines the importance and value of our time on the stage. We cannot limit our usefulness and availabilityvbecause of the necessity of innumerable characters. Ben Jonson described Shakespeare as not of an age but for all times. Because this is true, William Shakespeare's philosophies and ideas apply appropriately to us as students in 1966. Today we are experiencing the school-boy age of Shakespeare's seven ages of man. With the age of infancy behind us and our years as students quickly coming to an end, we see before us the ages of the lover and the soldier. To many of us, this age of the soldier is coming all too soon. Our parts in the play are leading onto the battlefields about which Shakespeare so often wrote. But, because there are three acts left in the play, we cannot cease our acting. For the brightness and meaning that the Works of this great Englishman can add to our lives, we, the 1966 LEXICON Staff make William Shakespeare and his contributions to the world the theme of this, your annual.
