The team won the state championship, and the team's ace shot, Don Hedrick, won several indi- vidual honors. As can be seen from this, the golf team had a grand season last year. With Hedrick, Smith, Zachary, Hooker, and Frietag returning, this season is just as promising. Although they probably won't even need it, we wish the golf team all the luck in the world. mn 1 X X . f 3' if if 'F I wwf f rg' I L - fag sv?-viffff, A , Q .xv 0, ,K , 5,4 's 1 'xy 4.95 f -wx as K ,f Q.. : 'wi W ' . Al- though their record is not impressive, people who at- tended the games know the team played hard and well. Their active enthusiasm and willingness to work created teamwork and co-operation among the players. Lack of many experienced and older players hampered the team quite a bit, but the younger boys, really improved by the end of the season. The senior boys played very well, and they put everything they had into the games. They fought hard and long, but the oppos- ing teams, with experienced and older players, used these assets to their greatest ad- vantage. The LEXICON staff appreciates the work and interest of the team, and heartily wishes them the best of luck in the coming season. LEXINGTON CENTRAL In the first game of the season, Lexington's dy- namic halfback, Junior Webster, began to show his explosive running ability. He scampered for three touchdowns as the Yellow Jackets de- feated the Central High Spartans. LEXINGTON REYNOLDS The first real test of the Jackets' ability same with the arrival of the Black Demons of Reyn- olds High School. The Jackets dominated the first half of playg how- ever, the Demons were able to overcome them in the second half and were victorious. LEXINGTON HIGH POINT In the Lexington- High Point game, the Jackets played very well against the highly-rated Bisons. Much credit is due to the team. ,, LEXINGTON HARDING The Lexington Yellow Jackets played a very fine game against Harding High School of Charlotte. The team's spirit and hard work were excellent. LEXINGTON ASHEBORO Although the Blue Comets of Asheboro are one of the best teams in the state, the Jackets played a very good game. The game was hard- fought and well-played. LEXINGTON GREENSBORO In the Lexington-Greensboro game, the Yellow Jackets played hard and Well against the highly-ranked team of Greensboro. 1 Coach: Bob Callicutt t 1960-61 Basket l Our basketball team has really been working. Jim Snyder was pulled up to Varsityg but with boys like Ted Royster, Joe Hornbuckle, Tommy Grayson, and Lester Bass to carry the load, Coach Frank King's boys had a very fine season. Wrestling Our Wrestling team, under the coaching of Coach Rhodes, had a hard season. They wrestled in the state match and did well. Several of the wrestlers lettered at the end of the season. Although the team lost some members, there are still some fine big wrest- lers and not-so-big ones left. We're expect- ing an even better season this year! 85 Coach King, David Miller, Jack Callahan xxx Track The Yellow Jacket track team Worked very hard last year. Most students don't realize the time, training, and hard work that goes into the making of a good track team such as the one we have.
