CLASS HISTORY As thirty six members of the class of '58 entered Lexington High School in the fall of '54,we looked into the future and saw stretched before us four long years of hard work before our ultimate goal -- graduation -- could be attained. Tom Jones, new to the class, helped to fill the void left by many former classmates who had failed to return. To guide our class's effort throughout our first year, Faith Trowbridge, Donnie Hayes, Mary Smith and Barbara Stearns, were elected class officers. Mr. Robinson and Mr. Hostetler were chosen to be our class advisors. Our very successful Hillbilly Show was the main event of the year. The crowning of Faith Trowbridge, as Basketball Queen was a happy moment for all of us. With feelings of both self-confidence and misgivingp we traipsed back to school for our sophomore year. We elected Bobby Glenn class president, with Lenoris Dennis, Judith Wells, and Louis Brandt as fellow officers. Our advisors, Mrs. Sears and Mr. Taylor, guided us over the rough spots, occasionally having to adjust our mantle of self-confidence upon our shoulders. A proud class indeed were we the night Rebecca East was crowned Basketball Queen, it being the second year a member of our class was so honored. Our project to make money, that of gathering scrap iron, proved to be one with much backbreaking labor. As Juniors we found ourselves one year closer to graduation. Officers for the year were Tommy Jones, Shelby Adams, and Bobby Glenn, headed by Faith Trowbridge as president. The task of advising us for the year fell to Mr. Hardin. Beginning in earnest to build up our treasury for the senior trip, we sold refreshments at ball games. The annual Junior Basketball Mixer brought the class a large profit. Serving as jurors, the audience considered our comedy mystery, Crew Cuts and Long Hairs, a well executed performance. A trip to Fontaine Ferry in Louisville climaxed a year of study, work, and sometimes play. September '57 twenty one were back to finish the final year of high school. Knowing this would be our busiest year, the class elected Gail Goodwin president, Shelby Adams, vice-president, and Judith Wells,, secretary, Helping to steer us through the year's work were Mr. Hardin, sponsor, and Mrs. Baerveldt, co-sponsor. Selling yearbook ads the first week of school not only started us on the multitude of tasks needing to be done, but added to our prestige as Seniors. We were proud to have three of the senior boys on the varsity basketball team. As this goes to press, we look back on this our last year with fond memories of the preceding years and the good times we had this year. The Freshman Class initation we had in the fall was a riot. We are rushing around like mad working on our final dramatic production, finishing this yearbook, going to basketball games and making plans for Commencement. Excitement reigns supreme as we make final plans for the Senior trip to Washington D. C. and New York City. Too, since we are planning on having a graduation class we have to do some studying in our odd moments. As the year draws to a close, we are filled with mixed emotions. We have had four'happy and relatively carefree years and farewells are always a little sad. We will by saying good-bye to friends and to a way of life that is in many respects different to that which we are facing. We would like to say here that we are grateful to our teachers who have guided' us through our school days. In the years to come we will appreciate the things they have taught us and the patience with which.they helped us with our problems. We are happy and proud that we have accomplished the things we set out to do four years ago, and we are facing the future with the eagerness and confidence that is natural to people our age.
