Inu., HOW WE LOOKED THEN 4403.9 Cwcw Rmb Im: .Qiov 5-'wi-T CLASS HISTORY As thirty six members of the class of '58 entered Lexington High School in the fall of '54,we looked into the future and saw stretched before us four long years of hard work before our ultimate goal -- graduation -- could be attained. Tom Jones, new to the class, helped to fill the void left by many former classmates who had failed to return. To guide our class's effort throughout our first year, Faith Trowbridge, Donnie Hayes, Mary Smith and Barbara Stearns, were elected class officers. Mr. Robinson and Mr. Hostetler were chosen to be our class advisors. Our very successful Hillbilly Show was the main event of the year. The crowning of Faith Trowbridge, as Basketball Queen was a happy moment for all of us. With feelings of both self-confidence and misgivingp we traipsed back to school for our sophomore year. We elected Bobby Glenn class president, with Lenoris Dennis, Judith Wells, and Louis Brandt as fellow officers. Our advisors, Mrs. Sears and Mr. Taylor, guided us over the rough spots, occasionally having to adjust our mantle of self-confidence upon our shoulders. A proud class indeed were we the night Rebecca East was crowned Basketball Queen, it being the second year a member of our class was so honored. Our project to make money, that of gathering scrap iron, proved to be one with much backbreaking labor. As Juniors we found ourselves one year closer to graduation. Officers for the year were Tommy Jones, Shelby Adams, and Bobby Glenn, headed by Faith Trowbridge as president. The task of advising us for the year fell to Mr. Hardin. Beginning in earnest to build up our treasury for the senior trip, we sold refreshments at ball games. The annual Junior Basketball Mixer brought the class a large profit. Serving as jurors, the audience considered our comedy mystery, Crew Cuts and Long Hairs, a well executed performance. A trip to Fontaine Ferry in Louisville climaxed a year of study, work, and sometimes play. September '57 twenty one were back to finish the final year of high school. Knowing this would be our busiest year, the class elected Gail Goodwin president, Shelby Adams, vice-president, and Judith Wells,, secretary, Helping to steer us through the year's work were Mr. Hardin, sponsor, and Mrs. Baerveldt, co-sponsor. Selling yearbook ads the first week of school not only started us on the multitude of tasks needing to be done, but added to our prestige as Seniors. We were proud to have three of the senior boys on the varsity basketball team. As this goes to press, we look back on this our last year with fond memories of the preceding years and the good times we had this year. The Freshman Class initation we had in the fall was a riot. We are rushing around like mad working on our final dramatic production, finishing this yearbook, going to basketball games and making plans for Commencement. Excitement reigns supreme as we make final plans for the Senior trip to Washington D. C. and New York City. Too, since we are planning on having a graduation class we have to do some studying in our odd moments. As the year draws to a close, we are filled with mixed emotions. We have had four'happy and relatively carefree years and farewells are always a little sad. We will by saying good-bye to friends and to a way of life that is in many respects different to that which we are facing. We would like to say here that we are grateful to our teachers who have guided' us through our school days. In the years to come we will appreciate the things they have taught us and the patience with which.they helped us with our problems. We are happy and proud that we have accomplished the things we set out to do four years ago, and we are facing the future with the eagerness and confidence that is natural to people our age. Writt'en by Judy Hall, Tom Jones and James Hall 5 K5 X'-2' 2 M SENICR CLASS PRCDPH ECY I am a stewardess on the TWA airlines. One day after the plane had landed and I had helped the passengers off, I had half an hour before departing again and decided to go to the Square Circle Club. As I was seated, I noticed that the waiter looked familiar. When I asked him his name, he said he was Donald Shearer, a former classmate of mine from Lexington, whom I hadn't seen for twenty years. Donnie said the owner of the Club 'was none other than Clyde Beswick. Glancing at my watch I noticed it was almost time for my plane to depart. Asl boarded the plane and saw to it that everyone was comfortable, Ithoughtl saw a familiar face and glanced back to see. Sure enough it was one of my classmates, Alice Nichols and her seven boys going to join her husband in Paris, where they own the DeVille Hotel. I chatted for awhile and when we landed I went to the hotel where I was to spend the night. After I had rested, I felt hungry and called for service. When the bellboy came, I was surprised to see another one of my classmates, Tommy Jones. He said he had been working there for about two years, that he and Shelby Adams were married, and they had two sets of twin boys. They were now living in Hair Pin, France. After I had rested and eaten I went down to the Cocktail Lounge and ordered a drink, there was soft music playing and a girl singing. It was none other than Rose Higdon. Rose said that Judith Wells was working as a cigarette girl, trying to support her husband, who was a heavy drinker, and their six girls. It was getting late so I went back to my room. The next morning I called a taxi to go to the airport. When the taxi arrived, I saw, to my great surprise, that the driver was Lula Belle Ryker. When I arrived at the airport and it was time to board the plane, the pilot came to the rear to get information on the flight. I noticed he had a familiar face, it was Lewis Ray - he said that his Co-pilot was James Hall. We were on our way to Lexington, Indiana, my old home town. After the plane had landed Iwent to see my old high school. Everything had changedg they had gotten a new school building and had the largest gym in Scott County. I went to the office and found the Principal, who was Ronnie Elliott, and the coach was Gail Goodwin. Gail is now married to Judy Hall. Judy isa wrestler and wrestles in the Lexing- ton auditorium on Friday nights. I left the school and went to the beauty parlorgthere was Carolyn Bridgewater. She is now the owner and manager of the Beauty Parlor in Lexington. , As I was walking down the street Iheard a large commotion, someone was giving a speech. I waited for a while to hear what it was all about. It was Louis Brandt who was running for mayor on the Democratic ticket. He said that Donnie Hayes was running on the Republican ticket. This is everyone from my class except Faith Trowbridge, who we are sorry to say, is, now residing in the Scott County Poor House, after trying to build a big house on forty dollars a week. I guess you all are wondering whol am - myname is Lenoris Dennis and I have been a stewardess since I graduated from Lexington High School in 1958. As I journey along I am glad to see all of my classmates and wish them all, lots of wealth, health, and happiness in the years to come, Written by Lenoris Dennis, Lewis Ray, Louis Brandt 1 Fx M 5 f 1 SENICDR CLASS WILL I, Gail Goodwin, will my height and basketball ability to my brother, Paul, and my weight to Lynn Hardy.
