Business Manager. . . . Asst. Business Manager Photographer . . MISS JUDITH BECK MARTHA GOODMAN . . . . SALLY SORRELLS KATHY RAVENHORST JANICE TOLLEY . . . STERLING MOORE DAVID BAUSUM . . . .HENRY HOWARD Foreword Similar to an intricate puzzle, Lexington High School can be divided in many ways. When one considers each stu- dent in our school as a piece of this puzzle, it becomes difficult to imagine how we all fit into it to make one picture. Crowded though we may be, all of us do fit, and are important to the total image of the school. We are, however, linked together by other types of puzzle pieces. These pieces are the many and varied classes, activities, sports, and features. And so, through- out this yearbook, the LHS student will be seeing many overflowing puzzle pieces, representing some phase of school life. 2 3 Dedication To one who, during the past five years, has given his time and thought so freely, who has been a source of knowledge and a fountain of inspiration bot h in the classroom and elsewhere, who, through his concern for us as individual students, has bestowed upon us so many treasured moments of happiness and encouragement, we, the Class of 1966, dedicate our CRYSTAL to MR. SAM JOHNSON. . . .explains details of Richmond trip to Seniors. . . .. .takes pictures at basketball and football games. . . Mr. Johnson: displays his teaching skills in government class. . . . . .and lets seniors indulge in Christmas festivities. 4 5 Administration and Faculty The Lexington High School faculty has mounted this year to thirty -seven due to the increased enrollment of stu- dents from Lylburn Downing High School, creating a stu- dent - faculty ratio of twenty -one to one. With this large number of teachers, Lexington High School has improved greatly academic -wise by offering a wider variety of courses from which to choose. MR. ALDEN W. WHITMORE M. We didn ' t do much that year, but we did have a representative on the Honor Court, Susan Mahoney. Our Homecoming Court representative was Ginky McLaughlin. We elected John Atthowe and Ginky McLaughlin as president and secretary -treasurer, respec- tively, as our class officers. As freshmen, we were beginning tofeel as ifwe really belonged. We were allowed to elect James Bennetch to represent us on the Honor Court. Rob Goolrick served as president and Ginky McLaughlin as secretary -treasurer for the year. Our sophomore year was one of excitement. We spon- sored our first dance and had quite a few of our number admitted to the National Honor Society as probationary members. Eric Anderson was elected president of our class and John Atthowe served as secretary -treasurer. Sterling Moore was elected to represent us on the Honor Court. Ginky McLaughlin was an attendant on the Homecoming Court. At last we were juniors, and looked forward to the Junior -Senior Prom, class rings, and becoming seniors. We had two girls as of f ic ers that year. Sally Sorrells served as president and Casey Carter as secretary -treasurer. Forthe first time we had two members of our class on the Honor Court, Martha Goodman and Steve Wessel. Susan Mahoney represented our class on the Homecoming Court. The year was one of both hard work and reward. We took College Boards for the first time and sponsored the Christmas Dance, with music provided by the Week- enders. In January we received class rings and in February we were honored to have three of our fellow juniors, Jim Bennetch, Sally Sorrells, and Carol Taylor, attend All -District Chorus in Winchester, Va. InMay,we gave. a very successful prom for the seniors. The theme was 20, 000 Leagues Under the Sea. The Regents provided the music. Representing our class at Girls ' State were Sue W i 1 s on and Ginky McLaughlin. Steve Wessel and Sterling Moore attended Boys ' State. Finally, as seniors, we realized how fast the years could pass when we were busy. We had three seniors on the Executive Council. Steve Wessel was president of the student body, and Casey Carter was elected secretary- treasurer. John Atthowe served as our class president, and Peggy Hills was elected secretary -treasurer. We had three seniors on the Honor Court: Ginky McLaughlin, Sterling Moore, and Janice Tolley. We sent six seniors to All - District Chorus: Penni Chappell, Carol Taylor, Sally Sorrells, Thomas Wright, Jim Bennetch, and Donnie Smith. Sue Wilson, Jeff Peters, and Sterling Moore re- ceived National Merit Letters of Commendation as Rob Goolrick and Henry Roberts were declared semi -finalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition. The Swingmasters provided the music for the senior- sponsored Homecoming Dance. Phyllis Goodbar was elected Homecoming Queen and Ginky McLaughlin served as Maid -of -Honor. As we, the Class of 1966, look forward to graduation with a mixture of ' apprehension and delight, we know that we will always remember fondly Lexington High School as a symbol of our youth and what it represented to us. 35 Most School Spirited Charlie Chatterton, Betty Lackey Best All-Round Ginky McLaughlin, Steve Wessel Friendliest Casey Carter, Donnie Smith Most Talented Rob Goolrick, Penni Chappell 36 Most Likely to Succeed Sterling Moore, Carol Taylor Best Dressed Sandy Hill, Billy Vaughan Most Courteous Janice Tolley, Sam Woiblett Most Talkative Henry Howard, Sue Wilson Most Gullible Beverly Hamm, Walter Massie Juniors Work Hard On Planning Prom Junior Class Officers: Mike Leary, President; Lee Wright, Secretary -treasurer.
