Stanley, Pultz, Lauck, Davis, and Baker set new school records respectively for the 100-and 220- yard dashes and javelin, discus, high jump and low hurdles, 880-yard run, and broad jump. The Scarlet Comets won four out of five meets, losing only to A. M. A. due to the absence of one weight man on the trip. The Hurricane swept past Natural Bridge and Clifton Forge twice each, and gloriously concluded the season by winning the exciting district meet at V. M. I. on May 19. ln this meet Lexington won six first places and Captain Stanley personally accounted for IZM points and received the top individual scoring honors. He won both the loo- and 220-yard dashes while Baker, Lauck, and Davis placed first respectively in the broad jump, low hurdles, and half- mile run. Lauck flnished unbeaten in class B competition. The relay team, composed of Stanley, Lauck, Davis and Shields shattered records when they clinched the meet within breathless one minute, 39 second time. Lexington scored 46 points in the entire meet to place first, Handley was second with 42, Vllaynesboro third, with 17, Clifton Forge, with 13M placed fourth and Staunton was last with 2M points. V In all but one event, the 440-yard run which McCoy in 1944 did in 54 seconds, the 1945 team has set new school records which will probably be extremely hard to break. Lexington's five victories of the 1945 season are as follows: April April Lexington Lexington Natural Bridge Clifton Forge. April Lexington .... Natural Bridge May Lexington .... .... C lifton Forge. lNlay Lexington .... .... W aynesboro. . l29l

Coach Lexington's first champion track team and just the second year of track! That phrase tells a long story, a story of good coaching, rigorous training and hard Work. Rev,', a champion himself Chis nine minute, 30 second two-mile run is still the Virginia and Southern Conference recordj, truly had a team of winners. The district crown really meant the state pennant because no state meet was held. This was the lirst time in thirteen years that mighty Handley of Yvinchester lost the district title. I28l
