The basketball season has gotten Well under way at Lexington High School and Miss Clement, who has undertaken l the job of coaching the girls basketball team, has begun training. During the long hours of practice N in the afternoon, the members of the team learned new tricky passes and some slick plays. The prospects for the coming season looked bright. Our team started off with a game with X lillinger High School's sextet. Although the game was lost 35 to 34. We still had high hopes and a good spirit. . 0' - if E VH 9 L L ' 1 N , Tl Q1 lm uh P 'W ve L E' .+I .. .WD if VK , I3-' . W fp 4 At

'9 members of the starting five werenlt present. Lexington lost quite a few games in the second half due to lack of experienced reserves. The long list of losses to the L. H. S.: Alumni, once, Waynesboro, three timesg Harrisonburg, Staunton, V. S. D. B., Bedford and Covington, twice each, and Goshen once, were punctuated by five wins over Goshen, Natural Bridge and Spottswood. Captain Doot Agnor was the Scarlet Hurricane's leading player. His brilliant Hoof play and ball handling were exceptional, he could make anybody's basketball team. His four com- panions on the smart live were Baker and Bean, forwards, Humphris, center, and Macheras, guard. The total number of victories next year should be higher, Humphris and Nlacheras being the only seniors. hlacheras was high scorer with 120 points, C. Agnor and Baker following. At a game one might see familiar Figures, clad in red uniforms, dashing down the floor passing and shooting. The cry Rah' l'ete l would go up as one would see a slim blonde make a neat shot, or see Helen Macheras, Alice Rice, and Sissy,' Davis execute a skillful play ending in the addition of two points to Lexington's score. VVhenever there was a ball to be retrieved Annie would be there in a Hash. Little and quick on the trigger was Leah Belle Sachs. Also streaking around on the floor giving support wherever it was needed, were Anne Allen, hlarie Molstlad, and Helen Tilson. Julia Anne Hedgepeth, easily distinguished by her height, was often seen on the court with Ruth Ruley and Thalia Macheras, who were following in their sisters' footsteps. Substitutes for the team were Mary and Suzie Blakely, Louise and lidythe Goodman, Barbara Crawford, June Brown, and Juanita Fix. As the chart below reveals, we had some rather stiff opposition and did not always come out on top. However, next year, with practically all the team returning, and with the coaching of Miss Clement, we hope to give the school some exciting games which even Brownsburg will rave about.
