In 1937 It reached Lexington, and we were the 176rh chapter to be chartered in the state. During that time girls' weren’t even allowed in the F.F.A., yet today Lexington has its first female President as Shelley Olson has led the chapter throughout the year. This year we had four F.F.A. members to make the bonus auction sale at the Cleveland County Jr. Livestock Show. A record of fifty-one F.F.A. olumni memberships were sold, thus allowing five members to attend the 11th annual Oklahoma F.F.A. Alumni Leadership Camp. Two members, Missy Thompson and Lorrin LeBlonc, each won o trip to the Notional F.F.A. Convention in Kansas City, Missouri by selling over 200 packages of Blue G Gold sausage each. Lisa Mlllsap won o 17-day trip to the East Cooch after winning 2nd place in the State Formers Union Speech Contest. Shelley Olson received the degree of State Former, the highest degree offered in the state. As the year slowly came to an end, we come to realize that F.F.A. hod been more than just another class to us. We were among the half a million other members that hod mode the Future Farmers of America one of the largest yourh organizations in the nation and together we were Keeping Americo on the Grow. Three Wrestlers Qualify for State The Lexington Wrestling Team ended the season on a high note by qualifying three wrestlers for the state tournament and getting their first state medal. The team finished 14th in the state meet held at Stillwater. This was only Lex's third year of wrestling competition. Qualifying for the state meet was Sr. Captain Ross Shore who finished third at regionals at 123 lbs. Shore finished the season at 21-4. Shore was also named the outstanding wrestler in the Cen- tral Conference for 1083-84. For the third straight year. Sr. Captain Greg Weatherford qualified for state. He placed third at regionals. and ended the season with a 21-4-1 mark. The tie was with 3A state champ. An- thony Houston, of Noble. Weatherford is a three time con- ference champ. Heavyweight Mark Monse led the team in victories with a 23-4 record and collected the Bulldogs their first state medal by placing fourth at the state meet. Monse had a school record of 23 falls this year including falls over last year’s state champ. Terry Buf- ford of Crescent, and last year's state runner-up. Scott Smith of Hobart. It was Monse's third trip to state. The fine performances of all three of these Lexington seniors. Ross Shore. Greg Weatherford, and Mark Monse. led the way to their being named to the honorable mention all-state team. Lex Girls Are District Champs For the first time in the history of Lexington, the girls’ softball team won district, establishing a new level of excellence in LHS softball. After overwhelming Meeker 11-0 in the first game of the district playoffs, the Lady Bulldogs realized that this was going to be that long awaited day. In game two against hard hitting Bethel. Big Lex’ played one of its most awesome games of the year. Even unforced errors seem- ed to go in their favor. Lex jumped out on top in the first inn- ing 4-0. One could feel tension building as intimidation finally took its toll on mighty Bethel. The sweet smell of victory per- vaded the air as the Lady Bulldogs wrote a new chapter in the LHS history books downing Bethel 8-4 in the district final. I n the regionals. Lex was pitted against conference rival Blan- chard in game one. L nfortunate- ly. the Bulldogs could not hold back the strong Lion attack and fell to Blanchard, who went on to win state, (continued on page 731. “A Short Time To Work, A Lifetime To Remember” The 1983-84 basketball season proved to be most eventful for the Lexington Lady Bulldogs and their fans. The 20 win season, a regional championship, and Lex- ington's first all-stater highlighted a banner year. The Lady Bulldogs opened the campaign with high expectations and three consecutive wins. Play- ing mostly 3A foes, the team not- ched a 15-7 regular season record, including a consolation cham- pionship at the Konawa Tourna- ment and a runner-up trophy in the prestigious Heart of Oklahoma Tournament. A late season bout with the flu marred the record slightly, as the Lady Bulldogs dropped four straight road games. The team proved itself, however, in the playoffs by- downing Ninnekah. Washington, and highly rated Apache to cap- ture the regional tournament and reach Area for the first time since 1977. The Lady Bulldogs then downed Fairview before losing out to perennial powerhouse Dale, only two wins from the state tournament.
