Text from Pages 1 - 68 of the 1961 volume:

Published by the students of Lexington High School in hopes that between these covers lie some of the most pleasant memories of our lives. mT This year marks the hundredth an- niversary of the beginning of the Civil War. In looking back over the past one hundred years, we realize how much we have advanced scientifically and economically. We see how we have come step by step from the cannon to the guided missle from the wooden man-of-war to the atomic submarine. We note inventions, such as the telephone, elec- tric light and motor, automobile, airplane, and electronic devices, which have given us such a high standard of living. And we view the advancement in medical techniques and materials which has raised our life expectancy by years. What lies ahead? We can only guess. But what- ever is it, it is certain that we, the leaders of To- morrow, will play an integral part in it. With this in mind we, the Memories staff, dedicate this yearbook of 1961 to future achievement. 3 Chelsea O. It is the evening of October 31, 1960. This day has been a hectic one. Early this morning the three Senior High School classes came to make some last minute preparations for this, the 1960 Halloween Carnival, and to put some finishing touch- es on their thrones and booths, which they started last week. Then at 11:45 a.m., the doors were opened and the crowd started to pour in. This crowd was well entertained by the Senior's fishpond and barrel ride, the 12 Betty Skinner David Spence Daryl Stockdale Charles Tompkins Junior’s cake-walk, and the Sophomores bingo concession. Now the booths are all closed, the money has been turned in to the judges, and the crowd is anxiously awaiting the results of the queen's race. Suddenly a voice booms forth from the loud speaker, and a cheer comes up from the crowd. The Seniors have won the 1960 Carnival Queen's race. This is one of the highest honors which a high school class can gain, and we Sen- iors are very proud of this accomplish- ment. We se thanks a Sawy spon; have giv pVs th yea ess our r. It would be hard to say what was the high point of the game. Perhaps it was when Danny Williams was carried off the coupt on a stretcher, or when the Deejays ran out of players and their water boy, Don Wallace, had to play basketball in his union suit. Or possibly it was in the last quarter when a lively game of touch foot- ball (?) had the Disc Jockeys climbing the bleachers. After a laugh-packed game, the power-packed Powder Puffs beat the dauntless Deejays by one touchdown. Class Officers—Carey Sherman-Pres., Gayle Rudisill-Sec., Reon Goins-Reporter, Ronnie Dodd-V. P. When the news of his arrival is an- nounced, the girls immediately mistake his given name of Prince for a royal title. They believe that his ill-fitting clothes and awkward manners are merely eccentricities. Much to the discomfort of the bashfull hillbilly, the girls fuss over him sumpin’ fierce. That is, all except one, Ethel, to whom Prince is immediately attracted. Naturally, because of this feminine attention, Prince is not in high favor with the boys. For a year or more, a blackmail scheme has been perpetrated on some of the students at Furst. Believing Prince to be of royal birth and therefore in command of an unlimited amount of money, the blackmailer chooses him for his next victim. But with the help of FordyceGreer another intended victim, Prince sets to work and unravels the mystery. Together they catch the culprit. 20 •rsr°llf. The BULLDOGS started the 1960 fall season under a new coach, Harold Owens Due to the limited time of the fall base- ball season, a lot of hard work had to be done before the opening game, which we won by a small margin. Although we weren't perfect we began to look forward to the District Playoff Game with always tough Noble. This game was played a little better than the previous one, and we were able to win the District Champ- ionship for the third time in four years. Then it was off to the Regionals at Fort Cobb. We left on Thursday afternoon in order to get in some practice on the strange field. We had a little hard luck and were not able to go any further than the first round, but every one is looking forward to the spring season.
