Tardiness results in writing as- signments, as Mr. Trimm explains to Shannon Hambright. Like many late students, James Gulley must have his note approved by Principal Patrick Brown, before being admitted to classes. In a rush to avoid the tardy bell, these junior high students waste no time in getting to their fifth period class. With only two minutes to spare, Lisa McGee, Tracy Nix, and Kay Newton hurry from the trade school bus to their fourth period classes. Lateness 13 IK

V® Cutting it Close You’re just about to jump into a mountain of chocolate ten feet deep, and suddenly, you hear a strange, terrible noise. Is it a siren? No. The phone ringing? Oh no, it’s the alarm clock! The mound of chocolate fades away and you open your eyes, only to have them stabbed by harsh daggers of bright light. “Okay,” you say to yourself, “why am I awake?” And then reality hits you slowly, but forcefully — you are supposed to go to school to- day! “Better get up quick,” you say to yourself, or the maternal unit is going to be on my case.” Quick? Not hardly, but you do manage to peel yourself out of the warm, shel- tering folds of the covers. “Shower. That’s what I need, a shower.” Making your way to the bathroom, you find that the floor is jumping up and stumping your toes and the door to the bathroom isn’t open after all. So begins the early morning rou- tine of reluctantly getting ready for the dreaded school day. Sound fa- miliar? After being awakened, Kenny Killen re- alizes that he has only 25 minutes to be at school. 12 Lateness

Arms loaded, Tammy Mashburn works on a job many students think about but never get around to doing — cleaning out her locker. While ignoring her collage of stickers, Michelle Robertson looks for her lost homework. Searching for her missing textbook, Lucretia Wilson tries to con- trol the overflowing papers. 14 LockefS
