Our Pals” Principals of Yesterday,,. Mr. James C. Mattox, a native of Broken Bow, Nebraska, was principal of Lexington from 1922- 1932. At the present he is credit manager of the Young Welding Supply Company. Mr. Mrs. Mattox has three sons and one daughter. Mr. I. C. Ellis was principal of Lexington from 1932-1934. He was fatally injured in a car wreck soon after leaving Lexington. Dr. Noah C. Turpen, a native of Anderson, was principal of Lexington from 1934 to 1940. At the present he is acting Superintendent, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. and Mrs. Turpen have two sons, Donald and Michael, and a daughter, Carol, and four grandchildren. Mr. Wilbur M. Wilson, a native of Florence, was principal of Lexington from 1940 to 1941. He is presently Executive Secretary of the Governor's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped, Montgomery, Alabama. Mr. John Finley, Jr., a native of Florence, was principal of Lexington from 1941 to 1948. From 1954 to the present, Mr. Finley has been Associate Professor of Education at Florence State College. Mr. and Mrs. Finley have a daughter, Lisa Chris- tine, age six months. He and the late Mrs. Hazel A. Finley had two sons, John Thomas, and Charles Coleman. Dr. Russel S. Clark, a native of New Hope, was principal from 1948 to 1952. At the present Mr. Clark is Assistant Superintendent of DeKalb County, Georgia. Dr. Mrs. Clark has a son, Russell, Jr. and a daughter, Susan. FLORENCE LUMBER COMPANY, Florence 13

Mr. A. R. Springer, a native of this community was the Superintendent at the time that Lexing- ton was accredited by the State Department of Education. In that year, (1926) the first graduat- ing class was composed of 7 students. Mr. Homer E. Williams, Sr., a native of Waterloo, was the Superintendent of Education from 1933 to 1941. Since leaving the Superintendency, Mr. Williams has operated a beef cattle farm in Hale County. He and Mrs. Williams live in the former Governor Seay home in Greensboro, Alabama. We Salute These Dedicated Men Lauderdale County Board of Education— (Left to right) Earl Haddock, A. D. Ray, Lawrence Goins, Allen Thornton, Supt., Grady Springer, and Rayford Raney. Our Superintendents Bud Dunn Stables, Tennessee Walking Horses, trained, sold and shown Florence, Alabama. W. H. Walker, a native of the Grassy Community was the Superintendent of Education from 1941 to 1953. Since leaving the Superintendency he has been in charge of Transportation and Maintaince for the County School System. Mr. Allen R. Thornton, a native of the Greenhill community, has been Superintendent of the County Schools since 1953. He is married to the former Miss Christine Broadway of Ardmore, Tennessee.

Present Orville M. Bailey B.S.-FSC M.A.—Peabody Mr. Orville M. Bailey, a native of Double Springs, came to our school as a Social Studies teacher in 1948. In 1952 he assumed the duties and responsi- bilities as the principal of Lexington School and served in this capacity until this year when he be- came assistant Superintendent of Lauderdale County Schools. The Students of Lexington have been fortunate to have a man of understanding and interest in all students. We hope his future will be as worth while and rewarding as has been his eighteen years at Lexington. Mr. and Mrs. Orville M. Bailey displaying the silver service that was presented them by the School Staff in recognition of their faithful service rendered the School Community. 14
