Text from Pages 1 - 144 of the 1965 volume:

The Water! The Water! The joyous brook for me. That tuneth through the quiet night Its ever-living glee. The Water! The Water! That sleepless merry heart. That gurgles on unstintedly. And loveth to impart To all around it, some small pleasure Of its own most perfect pleasure. Signed: Compliments of GLEN MOBLEY GROCERY Lexington, Alabama Compliments of FOUR LANE BEAUTY SALON Florence, Alabama CLASS PROPHECY Since I have always been curious about the future of my classmates, I am delighted at this opportunity to gaze into a crystal ball. What my classmates of 1965 will be doing in 1985 should be interesting indeed and I shall share with you what I am about to see in the crystal ball. One of the first things I see is the huge city of Lexington with its mayor, Joel Hill. The high school in our town continues to be the finest, mainly because of its principal, Eckard Walker. He has two swingin' secretaries, Judy Cockrell and Sandra Williams. Also on the faculty is the English teacher, Merle Holden. Over in the city is the fine lawyer, Fred Jackson. Martha Faye Davis and Ruth Lash Davis jointly own a kite manufacturing center in downtown Lexington. Elsewhere, Don Michael’s chemical exhibition is now on display at the World's Fair. Also at the Fair, Linda Andrews and Mary Jane Davis run a hot dog stand. However, they eat all the profits. Another in- teresting note is the world's largest Ferris Wheel, designed by Joe Paxton and constructed by Hodges Construction Co., owned by Walter Hodges. Several members of the 1965 class have gone into the entertainment field. Danny “Tarzan'' Knight is one of the most popular characters in Hollywood. His latest movie, “Tarzan's Mis-adventures in Kingtown”, is proving to be the best yet. And with Peggy Glover playing the part of Jane, they form an unbeatable team. Also in show business is Broadway's star performer, Richard McGee. Glenn Parker, Neal McGee, Frankie Grubbs, and Kenneth Mewbourn have stolen the hearts of former Beatle fans and are making a fortune. They are scheduled for an appearance at the Lexington Coliseum soon, according to their busi- ness manager, James Ridgeway. Oh yes, several of their hit records were written by Judy Joiner. Carl Holden and Mary Ann Mabe are playing the parts of Romeo and Juliet in and off Broadway productions. Janice Clemmons stars in “The Lady From A.U.N.T. Wilsey Mashburn has been successful as an enter- tainer. He is currently touring Russia. And speaking of Russia, Virginia Holden has recently become the Soviets' first female dictator. “Gunsmoke now stars Davis Holden as Marshal Dillon and Patricia Shook as Kitty. The show is written by Betsy Beatle. In the world of sports, Jessie Beatle was recently crowned middle-weight boxing champion of the world. His trainer is Cecil Scott and Charles Curtis is his agent. Frank Beavers has broken every Olympic record as he entered every event in the competition and won every one of them. Patsy Shaw is the record- holder in the swimming and diving division, while Betty Mae Hammond is America’s foremost figure skater. Jeanette Davis and Jeanette Haraway are co-captains of the girls Olympic volleyball team, coached by James Steen. , Kenneth Tays and Robert Walton have a partnership in TWA (Tays-Walton Airlines), located on the outskirts of MitchelItown. They provide transportation to the moon and back. Two of their most recent customers were Wanda Hammond and Frances Butler, who spent their honeymoons on the moon. They prob- ably heard the moon's most famous disc jockey, Clay Hammond. Also of interest is the editor of the moon's first newspaper, Becky Michael. Looking into space, I see where astronauts Larry Nunley and Curtis Ritter are stranded on the planet Mars waiting for help to arrive. You see, they journeyed up there, but ran out of fuel and now don't know how to get back. Mary Puller just returned from the moon where she made a tour giving lectures for the Red Cross. Back on earth, I see that James Davis and his wife, the former Lynda Gail Williams, and their ten kids live in the Greater Lexington area. Former Miss Universe, Lynn Danley, has moved back to Lexington where she and Phyllis Adams stage daily drag races on their motorcycles. Ronald Pettus and his herd of camels live in Arabia, where he is known as “Ahab the Arab”. Wayne Holden resides in Detroit where he enjoys his unusual occupation of being a speedometer turner-backer. Jean Newton lives in Paris, where she is leading designer. Mary Roden is one of her models there. Janice Hammond has made several million dollars through her art profession. In the recent presidential election, Joyce Truitt defeated Martin Luther King for the United States presidency. Also, Charles Romine is the governor of Alabama, serving his third term. I see that Linda Richardson is head Cook at Howard Johnson's, now owned by Alfred Newton. Lanee Richardson is a part-time opera singer and a full-time cat raiser. She sells kittens by the pound. Raymond Balch is now the head of the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. His able secretaries are Carolyn Holden and Brenda Butler. Jerry Richardson talked Raymond (crazy) into hiring him as an assistant. Their last rocket hasn’t been heard of since it was launched, which delighted Raymond. He said he was going to design another one exactly like it and put Jerry in it. Well, there you have it- little hard to believe perhaps, but thats exactly how I saw the future. They tell me those crystal balls are really accurate, too.
