Compliments of FACTORY DISCOUNT Florence, Alabama Most Likely To Succeed Elaine Butler Tony Porter Most Dependable Meredith Richardson Troy Newton Bobby Belew Most Athletic Cheryl White Larry Riggs Most Studious NOT PICTURED Patsy Thigpen CLASS PROPHECY The 1984 World Book Encyclopedia has just arrived. Will you join me as I look for names of classmates in the Class of 64? One of the first familiar names we see is that of Judson Adams, who finally won the Daytona 500 in his 409 Chevy. His top mechanics are listed as Gaylon Holden and Milton Killen. Also in the racing field is Janis Fields, who won the Powderpuff Derby at the Daytona races this year. In the entertainment field, we find the Class of '64 well represented. Rawleigh Garner is a Shakespearean actor on Broadway; Patsy Thigpen is the highest paid movie actress of today; Delores Newton and Elaine Butler are with the Metropolitan Opera; Dyanne Parker is a famous dramatic actress; Meredith Richardson is the director of the famous Kingtown Choral Group; Carol Ann Newton is disc jockey on WXYZ, Lexington's powerful radio station owned by Jimmy Grubbs. Edison Pettus is MC on a television quiz show. Billy Flemings and Neal Howard have a comedy act in a Los Vegas night club owned by Carl Waller. (Billy tells the jokes and Neal laughs at them.) Virginia Campbell is the featured singer in the same club, known as Waller's Lounge. Sports have claimed many of our classmates. Kenneth Sharp has gained fame in the Olympics as a weight- lifter. Neal McGuire is on the team that won the World Series last year (The Recap Rebels, managed by Wayne Hines). Larry Riggs has coached six different girls' basketball teams this year. Roger Pettus is the world’s ping- pong champion. He has been awarded a silver ping and a gold pong! A late entry in the yearbook notes Robert Beaver' high jump record of twelve feet. Science has made great strides with contributions from Tony Porter (discovery of lovebug vaccine); Tony Newton (development of an education pill); and Diana Wisdom (cure for smoking habit - prohibit the manufacture of matches). The yearbook tells us that a former Miss America, Paulette Cottrell, is residing in her palatial home in Grassy Hills with her millionaire husband. Of course, her home was designed by the famous architect, Evelyn Cole Killen. The famous skating champion, Donny Faulkner, lives nearby, and Donny Putman, hair stylist, has his salon in this exclusive neighborhood. One of the longest articles in the yearbook is devoted to Gerald Newton's accomplishment of being the first man on the moon. Of course, Mary Jane Joiner's accomplishment of being the first woman on the moon is also very interesting to us. Mention is made of Jerry Maddox's plan to run a regular rocket ship to and from the moon in the near future, and of course his wife Patsy will be his assistant. Surely we can find one Millionaire from our class. Yes, here is-----Troy Putman, manufacturing tycoon. He has factories all over the world, and they turn out millions of hair curlers daily. Foremost economist of the day, Larry Wells, is Troy's financial advisor. The field of writing was not shunned by our class. Doris Michael has received the Pulitzer Prize for her novel, Gay Gossip. Joel Hill is the creator of the widely read comic strip, Hill's Billies. Connie Harris' poems appear regularly in popular magazines. Marjorie Howard's Advise to the Lovelorn column is found in newspapers all over the United States. Before we forget, we must tell you that Amerilous Dean is the editor of this 1984 Encyclopedia Yearbook, and Ann Gordon is the photographer. The world of fashion is not without its contributions from the Class of '64. Barbara Williams' designs are copied by Paris designers. Linda Thigpen is her highest paid New York model while Cheryl White is her Paris representative. [ '22 ] Jeffrey Hammond purchased half the State of Texas last year and plans to start a small cattle ranch there. Rayburn Gray, last year's best-dressed cowboy, will be his foreman. Mary Ellen Belew and Gale Davis operate a poodle ranch. Their poodles are in demand all over the world, but Lexington orders are always filled first. It is easy to see that all these famous and wealthy people would have tax problems. Mary Hughes, tax consultant, is the busiest classmate of all. Bobby Belew Class Prophet CLASS POEM The year we've been looking forward to Has come, and now we must say adieu. The futures ours to have and to hold; Yet we find we’re neither brave nor bold. Memories will always linger in our minds Of the days that we've left behind. All of these we treasure dear, Some were gay, some sincere. And now careers we all must choose With knowledge we've gained and cannot loose. For the days we've spent at Lexington High Have all been so wonderful it's hard to say good-bye!
