[ 66 ] S ingleton's Bar-B -Qu e Florence, Alabama 7 Most Polite Doris Wright Charles Dean Friendliest Richardson's Lumber Co. Florence, Alabama Most Popular Sarah Cockrell Howard Richardson Class Poem Our last school days are drawing near, With all of our memories that are so dear. Soon our last good-bys we will say on that great graduation day. A new life for us is about to begin As we go our way, new goals to win. The friends that we have shared in gladness We now leave with a little sadness. To the faculty, who have always stood nigh, We wish the best of luck at Lexington High, As each of us go our separate ways, We will always remember these wonderful school days. Class Poet Doris Wright [ 70 ] Last Will and Testament We, the Senior Class of 1963, being in full possession of tired, but superior minds, do declare ourselves ready and capable to uphold the title of Lexington High School Graduates. The memories we will take with us; however, we would like to distribute our other possessions as follows: ITEM I. To the faculty, we leave the heartwarming thought that at last they are rid of us. We consider this to be enough within itself, but as a small token of our love, we leave another gift-the class of ’64. ITEM II. To the Freshmen and Sophomore classes, we leave our wisdom after having completed four years of high school and our own knowledge of our brilliance. ITEM III.To our faithful school secretary, Myra Porter, we leave our numerous excuses to leave school. We are also leaving one of our best friends at L. H. S. ITEM IV.To the senior sponsors, we leave all leftover spring festival tickets. We also thank you for standing behind us so well. ITEM V. To the Junior Class, we leave our carefree days as dignified seniors. The most treasured and personal gifts we leave to you as follows: I, Dwain Michael, leave my slow and easy ways, which are not to be considered lazy, to Robert Beavers. I, Dewayne Causey, leave my public taxi from Florence to James Wimpee. I, Wayne Murks, leave my quiet personality to Gerald Newton. I, Randall Gray, leave my ability to get out of class to smoke to Wayne Hines. I, Geneva Thigpen, leave my athletic abilities to Marjorie Howard and Cheryl White. I, Eddie Hammond, leave my astonishing musical talents to Patsy Thigpen and Meredith Richardson. I, Gary Truitt, leave my ability to make straight A’s in everything to Bobby Belew. I, Billy Don Thompson, leave my ability to get to school sometime between 8:20 and 2:30 to Neal McGuire. I, Donald Mason, leave my adventures while playing hookey to James Vines. I, Howard Richardson, leave my ability to always win an argument with Mrs. Springer to Raleigh Garner. I, Bobby Cole, leave my perfect attendance record to Donnie Faulkner. I, David Newton, leave my ability to talk constantly in class to Linda Thigpen. I, Carol Sue Balch, leave my ability to pass notes in class to Ann Gordon and Virginia Campbell. I, Ronnie Walton, leave my reputation as class hot rodder to Donnie Putman and Gaylon Holden. I, Sarah Cockrell, leave my attractive figure to Mary Hughes. I, Brienda Barnes, leave my dieting ways to Gale Davis. I, Martha Eddy, leave my quiet ways to Carol Ann Newton, Mary Jane Joiner, and Sandra Marlow. I, Ronnie White, leave my bashful ways to Roger McGee. I, Jerry Howard, leave my speed on the football field to Troy Newton. I, Judy Howard, leave my ability to look nice in glasses to Patricia Faulkner. We, Dwain East and Jimmy Burbank, leave.....................finally. I, Barbara Allen, leave my giggles to Doris Michael and Mary Ellen Belew. I, Doris Wright, leave my artistic ability to Evelyn Cole. I, Carolyn French, leave my flirty ways to Janis Fields. I, Ann Smith, leave my neat ways to Dyanne Parker and Barbara Williams. [ 71 ] We, Patsy Mewbourn and Betty Newton, leave our sisterly ways to Elaine Butler and Delores Newton. I, Linda Childers, leave my freckles to Hilda Vessal. We, Margaret Jones and Carolyn McGee, leave our ability to make friends to Diana Wisdom, Connie Harris, and Amerilous Dean. I, Roger Walker, leave my ability to tell the biggest tales to Frank Crosswhite. I, David Hammond, leave my busy ways to Tony Porter. I, Dwight Gray, leave my bass voice to Carl Waller and Jeffrey Hammond. I, W. O. McCain, leave a great big vacant spot, which I'm sure no one can fill. I, Baron Newton, leave my ability to bluff my way through school to Kenneth Sharp and Neal Howard. I, Larry Richardson, leave my shy and easily embarrassed personality to Larry Wells. I, Wayne Jones, leave my height to Donald Collins, my singing voice to Milton Killen, and my way with the girls to Jimmy Grubbs. I, Don McGee, leave the backbreaking job of writing the Last Will and Testament to any Junior who is unlucky enough to receive the honor. Signed: Don McGee [ 72 ] Class Prophecy My, how time flies! It's already 1983. I think I'll read my daily newspaper and catch up on the news of my old classmates from Lexington High. On the front page is Lexington’s own Dwight Gray. He is President of our country. People will al- ways look up to Dwight. Sarah Cockrell has been elected the first lady-senator from Alabama. Martha Eddy is ambassador to Russia. As I turn the page, the first thing I see is a picture of Eddie Hammond. He has been chosen Doctor of the Year by the American Medical Association. His nurses are Carolyn McGee and Bar- bara Allen. Gary Truitt has become a millionaire. He is president of the Last National Bank in New York. The two Newton boys, Baron and David, have a law partnership in downtown New York. Baron persuades clients to come in (by hook or crook) and David handles the cases any way the prosecuting attorney tells him to. Alvin Turpin owns the Turpin Construction Company in North Lexington. His chief carpenter is Bobby Cole. His motto is To make the worst better. Turning to the next page, I see that Dwain Michael is the editor of the paper. He has written an interesting editorial on How to Be Ambitious without Really Trying. The next page has some interesting news. I see that Ronald Killen and the former Ann Smith are cele- brating their 20th wedding anniversary this week. Wayne Murks has announced that he is finally getting married after all these years. He starts taking orders a week from today. Ronnie White and his wife, the former Margaret Jones, have six boys. He has a good means of support for them, however. He owns the largest belt factory in the world. There are a couple of familiar-looking faces on the movie page. Now showing at the local theater is To Kill a Woodpecker starring Carolyn French. Doris Wright is the producer. Don McGee will be starring next week in Thunder in Kingtown. Carol Balch, Brienda Barnes, and Geneva Thigpen have formed a dancing trio and have been performing in some of the hottest night clubs in the country. One of them burned last week. Joe Phillips and W. O. McCain have combined talents to form a comedy act in Hollywood. Their writer is Jimmy Gray. As I turn to the next section of the paper, I see some very attractive designs in men’s clothing. Betty Newton and Judy Howard designed them for Linda Childer’s Men’s Apparel. I also see that Larry Richardson is a hair stylist for Wayne Jones’ Beauty Salon. Doris Creekmore is his model. Charles Dean is testing hair tonic. He hasn’t decided yet whether to use two dabs or that greasy kid stuff. ” In the local news, the city elections which were held last week are the main topics around the city. Ronald Walton is the new Mayor of Lexington. Patsy Mewbourn is his secretary. Roger Walker is the new Chief of Police with Dwain East as his deputy. Their first customer was Jimmy Burbank. He was arrested for drinking while drunk and was sentenced by Judge Dewayne Causey to thirty days at the state line. The sports section has some familiar names in it. Gerald Michael is starring in basketball for his hometown team, the Goodwintown Rattlers. B. H. Parker is the new heavyweight boxing champion of the world. Billy Don Thompson and Howard Richardson have their own drag strip in the heart of Lexington. Randall Gray’s wish has finally come true. He is a professional wrestler. His tag team partner is Donald Mason. They were undefeated until Randall ran out of jokes to tell his opponents. Jerry Howard is still the hundred-yard dash champ of the world. He has won ten gold medals in the Olympic Games. Well, it seems as if my old classmates lead pretty interesting lives. 1 will have to keep a close eye on the newspaper if I keep up with them.
